uh, poor QC and inferior plastics?

seriously. you should watch out for Rodimus's shoulders, the part where the ball joint joins the arms...my previous Rodimus already has stress marks on that part and i only handled him quite a few times.

plus, the plastic's pretty cheap, there are white stress marks on where the plastic part used to join the sprue (model kit builders know this) while it was still in production.

another thing is the shin plate/exhaust doesn't line up too well in alt mode.

this is why Rodimus is considered on of the inferior releases on Classics - too bad because i terribly like the character.

I'll keep some of that stuff in mind, thanks!

and i know waht you mean with the exhaust pipes. One side lines up fine, the other doesn't

however, QC's always been an issue with Hasbro, and i think the figure's flaws can be easily overlooked for how aesthetically pleasing his design is...for bot mode at least

poor grimlock and his flaws though...

the screws in his shoulders stand out like a sore thumb. I don't mind his legs being the rex neck+head, but it messes up the articulation and posability. If it was a bit better done, i wouldn't have minded at all.

Too bad Grimlock's shoulders arent made up of even pieces...or else the swap with the shoulder pads would have worked and made it so much better

t-rex mode is pretty rad though.

no, you're in luck - a few days ago BBTS announced they were taking up preorders on the Takara release of the Classics line...and to top it off, it seems Takara's going to do some color changes to make the toys more cartoon-accurate. so i guess you can get a better version of Megatron if you can pay for the BBTS price.

Frankly, I don't find Grimlock worth transforming to his robot mode. His alternate mode isn't perfect either, especially the hind legs.

As for Ramjet, I dislike his look as well, but I found it to be a good representation of what he was and an overall decent toy.

I wish I had gotten Megatron, but his gun mode is far too... toyish for me :P

His robot mode is OK, except I can't STAND those green wings. I hope they were designed to attach and detach easily?

*prepares to be stoned*

My favorite is actually the 2-pack Megatron (okay, maybe he's Universe, but the DVD placed him with the Classics figs so yeah). This is probably because I'm a relatively new collector and never had the benefit of owning Hero Megatron or Reverse Convoy, but I really like this dude. Great sculpting (superior to the voyager Classics Megs IMHO), simple and fun transformation, and excellent poseability due to the leg articulation and flexible feet. The *only* thing about him that bugs me is the lack of a right hand.

I'll grant that Bumblebee is pretty much perfect, though -- he's like a mini-Alternator minus the frustrating transformation.

ahahaha, actually the 2-pack Megs got some pretty good reviews also, and this isn't the first time Megs was a tank, his G2 version was one too. about the only gripe i hear about this toy is the spinning gimmick, whatever that is. as for lack of right arm, well, i guess that's pretty much a homage to his Beast Wars incarnation (where the right arm, instead of an attached cannon, comes as a dinosaur head).

There seems to be some talk of a remould too, but as far as I can see it's just the paint, which frankly is easy enough to sort out (and I did the day I got him).

I just came across this thread and, I would not pay $30 for a Bumblebee if I already had 3 like you said either. Small prints but still possible to read.

not at all, I love magnus. Although it would have been nice for Hasbro to have gone with their original color scheme for the mouthplate and such.

I think a lot of people are just bitter over him being a direct repaint of prime.

Deluxe 2-pack Megatron isn't bigger than Voyager Megatron. He's nice enough, though.

He didn't say he was bigger, might want to re-read his post.

NERF Megatron is pure awesomeness. The deluxe megatron ... meh, I can't get into him. I'll chalk that up as the most FAILURE of a 2 pack that I've ever seen.

2007 Prime vs. 1984 prime is pretty bad, too. Still ... better than the prime vs. megs IMHO.

I purchased 3 of prime vs. megs, because they popped up out of nowhere after a long drought. I thought they were rare. Friggin things are like AIDS now ... I can't get rid of them.

yeah, i'm from the MidSouth actually :D if you're in Manila, there are hobby shops in Greenhills who might still be selling classic Megs...and i'm sure these shops will stock these Takara classics once they come into our shores - albeit at inflated prices. :-x

I gave my Nerf Megs the repaint treatment and he went from one of my least to one of my most favs in the whole line.

It's a great mold once you cover the lime green and purple.

I do love the seekers though too. All in all it's a great line with a few bits here and there to quibble about.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one who dug the deluxe Megs! I'd seen some okay reviews of him previously, but nothing approaching my appreciation of the figure. I guess the Optimus brought him down a notch.

AlienQuiksilver wrote:NERF Megatron is pure awesomeness. The deluxe megatron ... meh, I can't get into him. I'll chalk that up as the most FAILURE of a 2 pack that I've ever seen.

And honestly, I like that 2-pack quite a bit! I don't like Prime nearly as much as Megs, but I'm still fond of his robot mode. And honestly, I could even really dig his truck form if I could find a trailer for him (see my sig)!

But then, I tend to prefer the deluxes anyway -- I dig the slightly smaller scale and still have a really hard time paying $20+ for a single figure. :P

And Starscream's probably my least favorite Classics figure, if only because that piece of plastic by the leg fin popped off on mine. I've been afraid to transform Skywarp at all since it happened. :(

It's the hindmost piece that holds the pin on the leg fin in place. I even tried to glue it back on, but to no avail -- it looks like the pin was set in at an angle so it's impossible to get the piece to stay on and still have the joint function.

Odd... definitely sounds like a dud, like I said, that's never happened to me in... five Starscreams? No chance of a refund?
I wouldn't worry about Skywarp, I doubt it'll be a problem with him as well.

No chance for a refund -- it's not like he broke right out of the package, and even if there were there are no 'Screamers left in the stores (since I'd want to do an exchange, no doubt)! But I figure if I ever come across another SS cheap he could be potential repaint fodder... or not. I dunno.

Image

Didn't feel like setting up the studio to photograph the break, but here's an old pic I took of the gang -- the red circles indicate where the break took place on SS and would take place on Skywarp. I did read that quite a few people (or at least more than just me) had this problem with SS, so it's not just limited to the one that I got. (Not that it wouldn't be in keeping with my terrible luck if it were!)

I just pretend that Megatron kicked SS really hard in the ankle on one occasion. :P
