The Worst Prime Toy ever!!!

Postby Maximal Primal » Fri Jul 13, 2007 6:56 am

Note: this includes any Optimus Prime, Optimus Primal, from Takara, Hasbro, or from any line.

My vote goes for the Leader Class Armada Optimus prime. the articulation is aweful, and the look of him is just sad. He is a Brick, Hasbro would have been more efficient to release him as a Statue, his supermode is just horrible, and though his regular bot mode is okay, it's still not worth the price to buy him and that gimmic of a trailer.

powermaster prime was a brick and so was g1 prime.. hell 80-% of g1 figures were bricks. if you got hip, elbow and shoulder articulation consider yourself very lucky.

You shut your damn lying sinning mouth right now and behold!

(I feel like I'm on a crusade to defend the honor of this toy, I swear.)

You do realize that:

1. He's a bad-ass homage to Star Convoy.
2. Articulation is not just about moving your arms and legs. What this Prime has lacking in that articulation, he has rockin in his trailer. Motion sensing, numerous mini-con activated ports, combinability with two other figures, lights and sounds...sheesh.
3. His alt mode is outstanding. He is perhaps, the most diesel looking Prime ever.

Besides, worst Prime ever is in all likelihood Energon Prime. Now I personally think he's an awesome toy. I repeat, he is a very good toy. However, he's too out-side the 'Prime Box'. He's too fat, has an Ultra Magnus Trailer, is not the traditional color scheme, has Power Ranger style combination, and so forth. Granted, he looks great with Wing Saber, but you'll notice he's the only Prime to have what, oh, zero repaints.

That says something if Hasbro isn't interested in repackaging a redeco Prime.

Though I do like the figure, particularly his gun, I've got to go with the Optimus that initially came with Megatron, and now can be seen in the "Leaders for the Ages" two-pack. The truck mode is not good, and the punch gimmick makes him spin around like Ratchet on a power line bender.

My least favorite, however, is G1 Prime. While most will probably see this as blasphemy, I just don't care for him all that much. Didn't when I was a kid, either. I blame 20th Anniversary Prime and Star Convoy for starting my collection.

Cyber Stmping Prime. A mirproportioned, non-transforming statue that exists only to be headache-inducingly loud. "Try Me"? I made that mistake once. I am never going to push hose buttons aain, and I certainly can't see why anyone would buy this thing.

I still think the original G1 is the best, but the new leader class version from the movie is absolutely AMAZING!! The voyager version doesn't look too bad either, but the leader version definitely has my vote as the first movie toy you should buy--if you can find it now, that is...

I've been meaning to ask since you posted your collection picks the other day where the gold Prime came from. Is it the 2 pack version that was supplied with Jetfire? I've got quite a collection of A Primes, Regular displayed in superpants mode and an extra displayed as cab robot mode, Wapinator Prime displayed with Waspy Overload, Magna Convoy decent coloured version of Final Battle displayed with Clear Magnus and PL Jetfire pants, my original Hasbro Final Battle displayed in cab robot mode and an extra Prime put aside to repaint into Magnus and display with my extra E Magnus. I've been looking for a unique version to display combined with Jetfire sans Overload so that I've got each combination in different colours without having to spend ridiculous amounts on those stupid Lucky Draw tacky as hell versions, although I'd still have to repaint Jetfire so that his colours were unique for that combination.

Anywho, Machine Wars Prime has to go down as a pretty poor one. I actually really like Thunderclash, but between the trashing of the mould to accomadate US toy safety laws, the lack of a head remould to give him a faceplate and the colours the MW version really has to go down as a poor man's Prime.

Generation 2 Hero Prime. The Pride Parade colors not withstanding (it was the early 90's after all) it was the very first articulated Optimus and it does even stand. Why? No heels. No real feet to speak of at all. And don't that get me started on that damn pump action aircannon he stole from Megatron. Utter garbage. The worst past is I bought it again more than a decade later when they repainted it as Scourge...

Ok, I have to disagree on the grounds that gimmicks such as lights and sounds, and an automatic trailer that turns into towers for legs that don't move are completely ridiculous!!!

1. Star Convoy was a nice idea, the art was great but in the end....
Amazingly Dull Altmode... and don't complain that these pics don't have the stickers, does it really matter that much??

A Brick Former!!!

Tell me his feet don't look like a Power ranger..
Image
OH look some articulation!!!! Whooo Hoo!!!
Image
The truth of the matter is I agree that Armada Prime is crap, because these Primes are excused due to the fact that they are "old school", but they should get updated versions..none the less.
Image
Beast Wars Beast Machines and RID set the Bar for articulated and interesting Transformers, the combining trailer and such with Fire Prime was one of the best uses of combination.. Such as:
Image

the fact that Armada came out after RID is why it fails so miserably, to move so far ahead in the Articulated Combiner category and let it fall back into "Brick" Status, even with Gimmicks galore... sorry man, but...its just a Bad Prime!!!

Machine Wars. He didn't even look like Prime. At least Armada and Energon Prime looked like Prime to some extent. And Beast Machines Optimus was a monkey that changed into a gorilla. Ugh.

I find your lack of faith disturbing.

Look, articulation is NOT the be all and end all of Transformers. It's great when employed properly. It is not an absolutely necessary feature though.

Energon Galvatron has approximately the same amount of real articulation that Armada Super Prime has. Yet he is heralded as one of the best figures in years despite a lack of joints.

but really, whatever dude

You can make summary judgements like this and throw up some pictures, but it's not making a case for anything in doing so. I'm not trying to be mean here, but honestly until you can give me something other than, 'It's lacking articulation, thus it is the worst ever.' I don't feel the need to say anymore.
