The original toys however were basically the same size as average Autobots & Decepticons. The imposing nature of their size was a construct of the animated series and the comics.

While having Dinobots that were larger than other toys would be impressive, it would not fit the current play pattern. And lets face it. Transformers toy size scale has never really been that accurate anyway.

Also, how many people would be willing to buy a voyager-class nobody like Sludge? And I mean, outside the nerdier parts of the fandom.

Actually Sludge was my favorite, as he was the only original one I had... :lol:

. But all that aside, I'm sure many fans would purchase non-combining Dinobots, a good portion would probably prefer it that way. Me...as cool as they would be either way, the Combination gimmick is the deciding factor in my purchasing them this time around. For a long time I felt it wasn't necessary, but now that other new teams have been established (Grand Convoy Prime, Grand Galvatron, Sky Reign etc...), it makes Volcanicus easier to accept.

Didnt they do that for AOE? He was even less than a nobody by not even being in the film. But people bought his voyager. People are buying a Scorn voyager too even though he isnt in the film advertised by the toyline he's in.

And while Hasbro talks about G1 a lot, its just a jumping point. After that, they look at cool stuff like the idea of having a crocodile in a lineup of having a leader sized Black Shadow who looks cool. I mean Black Shadow is waaaay less known than sludge and he got a leader figure. I dont think its related in any way. Kids and parents would surely buy a voyager sized dinosaur.

Fans only buy 30% of the product, so they are not the only ones worth thinking about.

I don't quite understand what exactly the reasoning is for the Dinobots needing to be Voyager and up. The G1 originals were roughly Deluxe Class, Mega at best:

The team doing the Generations line has an impossible job. Fans have been begging for Generations dinobots for years now. We have had several iterations of Grimlock which got hopes up each time.

They have a specific budget (in terms of number of figures per size, line) for each Generations subline. This seems to be the best way they could get us dinobots sooner than later.

With all the figures we have been asking for, they have been trying hard to get them for us (at least in regard to G1 related figures). 5 voyagers (or leaders) basically means they would be unable to provide other figures.

So far we know of Hun-gurrr, Grimlock, Inferno, Elita-1, and Starscream.

In essence I think Elita and Starscream should be counted as 1, and inferno is likely a retool from a previous line.

As far as unique molds from the previous lines in this trilogy:

CW: 5
TR: 6

And TR is a bit harder to say because Alpha Trion and Broadside sharing some engineering/parts

I would love voyager scaled dinobots, but I understand this line is not about dinobots taking center stage. We are getting some awesome figures in this line. I think the dinobots are going to be fantastic. Since they will be approximately the same size, it will be fun to compare them to the originals.

I can almost guarantee Wei Jang or someone will release OS knockoffs that will be great quality. If you want Voyager (or Leader who knows) scale G1 styled dinobots, that will be the best opportunity.

It's because the original Dinobots were bigger than the average Autobot both in the original fiction and in the original toys. Not only did the cartoon and comics depict them as larger-than-average-sized Autobot behemoths, but while their toys were roughly Deluxe-sized like you said, Deluxe-sized G1 toys were viewed back in the day in the same light as Voyager-sized toys are viewed nowadays. Deluxe may be the standard size for average TF toys in this day and age, but back in 1984-1985, the common Autobot Car was roughly the size of a Basic/Scout class toy. Optimus Prime himself (referring to the cab robot toy only) stood taller than all of his Autobot Car compatriots and yet he was like a chunky Deluxe toy. The Dinobots were among the few 1984-1895 Autobot toys who were big enough to size up to Optimus, making them seem all the more impressive and imposing in size and mass. This is why those who wish the POTP Dinobots were bigger do so. They don't want dinky Dinobots who stand at the same height as the Autobot Cars who were once the Dinobots' lessers in size.

And because, well, "dinosaurs = BIG".

I'm not that bothered if I like the POTP Dinobots enough to want to play with them much as dinosaurs - I'd consider it possible that one of the Chinese factories will over scale them all and so I would just use the deluxes for most and the over scale Sludge with them in Dinomode.
Likewise if they ever get around to over-scaling Slog I'd do the same with the Movie Dinobots too. If you can find something that matches the look one of the MP like Third Partly Sludges would have a similar effect too next to Deluxes. But when I get them I'll likely leave them in robot mode or combined anyway - so the scale issues with the dinosaurs would be less noticeable.

Eh, that was a while back so it's difficult to remember. I think it was because we'd seen leaks of a prototype Predaking along with Evergreen Megatron on what looked like a show floor -- combine that with my thinking they needed some sort of big reveal...

But we saw no pics of a finished predaking. What we saw was more of concept model showing the colours and size. I think hasbro wasnt ready and thought it would indeed confuse us if they showed us that (which judging from the comments, they are probably right to wait to show finished pieces).

That's true. Though it would be odd to have a main line without any Megatron toy whatsoever.

The whole Generations line has had at least six Megatron toys in it at mass retail. Six isn't enough?

I'd rather have Megatron --> Super Megatron over Galvatron. First because the closest thing we've had to a Super Megatron figure ever is the Animated Megatron. But that's not the only reason, I think it simply fits the evolution gimmick better. Megatron and Galvatron are basically the same size characters so a Deluxe Megatron turning into a Leader Galvatron just doesn't work for me the same way it does for Orion Pax, Hot Rod, and Optimus Primal.

But Megatron into Super Megatron seems perfect since it's a real upgrade of the character rather than being reformatted into someone else. And really up things by giving us an evolving Star Convoy to go with him, he's another figure we really deserve an update of instead of all the homages we've gotten over the years (Cybertron Optimus Prime, Animated Armor Up Optimus Prime, CW Battle Core Optimus Prime, TR Voyager Optimus Prime). I'd be super happy if we got these two out of the line. They can save a Leader Galvatron for the next line.

I doubt she'd confuse fanart of a Leader Evolution figure (which really wouldn't have worked at all as a figure) for a Voyager combiner.

People seem to think the image of G1 gun Megatron used during the SDCC panel is a sneak peak of a new Megatron figure and got the rumor rolling that one is coming. I'm not saying we won't get one, but the two aren't related, it's just a picture of Megatron and nothing more.
