Great car mode, less than impressive bot mode, especially in the side view.

Easy pass.

[size=150]WHY?! I know it's been talked about already, but still? Jazz hasn't had a single role in any movie, tv show, or as even a figure in years. He has a good personality, he likes music, and is "hip" i guess you could say. wouldn't that fit the theme better? Him liking earth and stuff would be a reason for him and the main character to meet right?
Anyway, I feel like maybe they could've introduced Jazz later as like a Shelby cobra or something. While other characters have been porches, none have had that specific color scene, with the blue stripe. : :-(
... still going to see rotb though...

Oh Thats Real Nice Mirage Jazz.jpg

This might be a hot take, but the level of hate Mirage's design is getting has really illustrated to me just how superficially we as a fandom think of these characters.

I've seen relatively little talk about how Mirage's personality seems to be very Hot Rod-esque in this movie and overall very different from G1; the vast majority of the discussion is about how simply having a different alt mode from G1 Mirage has completely ruined the character in many's eyes, and how this should be Jazz instead just because he has a similar alt mode to G1 (not the same alt mode mind you, only the same automaker).

Like, guys, this is a franchise about transforming robots that can scan almost any object they want and reformat their bodies accordingly, and can do it on a whim. Why do they have to be the same vehicles every time? How does that somehow ruin the character? A Porsche is honestly a more fitting alt mode for the formerly wealthy, high-society G1 Mirage than an F1 racecar ever was.

Also, a bit of a side tangent, but I've never liked the term "nameslap". I've always thought of it similarly to people names, since there are presumably millions, if not billions of cybertronians (depending on the continuity and timeframe the story takes place), multiple bots with the same name is inevitable.

In G1 Jazz wasn't even the only Porsche, there was also Cliffjumper (Porsche 924), Dead End (Porsche 928) and Nightbeat (Porsche 959). And I know what you're thinking, that's different because they were different models of Porsche than Jazz. Guess what, movie Mirage and G1 Jazz aren't the same model either!

G1 Jazz Porsche 935:

Movie Mirage Porsche 911:

They aren't even that similar side by side.

As for the figure, it's probably fine as a transforming toy, but the bot likeness is no good.

Interesting that Mirage's forearms appear to be clear plastic. Guess we'll have to wait for official product shots, but that seems like a weird choice unless they're going for a hologram/invisible aesthetic.

Just imagine if Paramount pulled a Blitzwing/Starscream all over again, and by that I mean have Jazz appear in a small role, but he somehow looks even more like his G1 self than Mirage.

I think some people are overreacting, in most cases it isn't hate at all merely disgruntled. And since when is it not okay to have an opinion on something? Some individuals think everyone is supposed to like the exact same things and if you don't it requires some sort of insult to be launched/

I don't hate this take, in fact I'm really indifferent because I haven't like very many of the TF movies at all, the very first one was fine and I really like Bumblebee. Not that I care to collect any of the figure because I simply don't care for the designs. As for ROTB I have almost zero interest in seeing it other than a slight curiosity how they integrate beasts into the story and live action mythos, I still don't much care for the bot designs. Some are decent others not as much. I simply asked why they chose to go with Mirage as a Porche instead of an F1 or maybe even something cooler like a Ford GT. I could definitely see that as Mirage.

Don't care for the Jazz or Mirage debate. The alt mode is gorgeous, which understandably is a necessity to be licensed. The bot mode got some issues though, even if I don't really care that much about screen-accuracy. The design is overall a bit "meh" and the shins & feet looks weird & makes the bot looks stubby. Love the head sculpt though. I'm getting it for the alt mode.

However, this design shouldn't belong to the Studio Series if what we saw in the trailer is close to what we'll get in the movie, as it makes the chance of getting an even more screen-accurate figure (using engineering similar to Hot Rod to get the lean & mean body proportion) in the future unlikely, which sucks and is the biggest sin IMO of this decent figure.

Movie first, toys second. The hologram shellgame looks good on screen, and Mirage is a cooler name for an illusionist spy robot in disguise.

"Jazz" is unfortunately one typo away from offensive, so not a great choice for lead bot.

And also, Jazz was a 932 in G1, not a 911. Yes it's the same manufacturer, but that's like confusing Ratchet and Ironhide's altmodes in the 07 movie because the Topkick and Hummer were both made by GM.

Typo, but thank you. Point is that he was not a 911 outside of the IDW comics:

Edit:

Of course, the obvious reason they couldn't name this character Jazz is because we already watched him die in 2007. Without a reboot, that would sort of sour audience attachment to the character.

This movie takes place in the '90s (1992 according to the casting sheet), Jazz is still alive somewhere out there.

Question for anyone, are we really supposed to think Mirage is the same character as Dino? Saying Dino is Mirage because that was the working name that ended up on some merch and games before being established in the movie as Dino is like saying Devastator and Brawl are the same character because of those screwed up subtitles.

Personally I do think "Dino" is Mirage because of how many times the character is referred to as Mirage - including the very sequel, Age of Extinction, where Attinger's playing card uses the name Mirage to refer to the Ferrari 458 Italia Autobot.
Even merch made after the film, the Cyberverse Legion toy, also use the name Mirage. (I know it's not the grandest of things, but I still think it counts.)
So I'd say I'm content with Dino at least being considered a nickname even if it wasn't listed like Wheeljack's was thanks to Ferrari themselves.

Yes, and without a reboot to avert his fate in 2007, that would sort of sour audience attachment to the character in 1992. It's hard to get attached to someone who has an especially disappointing death ahead of him.

Honestly, did you really think someone on this board somehow missed the part where this movie is a prequel?

I'm glad Dino is his own guy (or at least that's how I choose to see it) since him being Mirage would have been such a random nameslap. I know nameslaps are a thing, but man this Ferari guy with an Italian accent as Mirage would have been just a G1 name for the sake of it (would have been similar to Hot Rod). At least here while Mirage turns into a porsche, he does have a similar colour scheme and the powers reflect the name/G1 bio. So while still a live action version of the character and not the G1 character brought to life, he's more Ironhide/Starscream than HotRod/Skids.

As for the toy, yikes, that really does not look like the character model. I don't find the chest area recognizable at all.

It doesn't really matter since the status of this film within a chronology of live action transformers film is purposefully ill defined. I know fans debate about it but that's not looking at the bigger picture that the main consumers of this big budget film have had no clear indication of how this film relates to the other ones aside from throughline character cues like Bumblebee's look and the way he speaks.

So yeah, having Jazz would make them think of the other film, since we do have Bumblebee right there as well. Not sure about attachment but they clearly want this porches character to be a new character with no relation to the Jazz people may know, hence why he isn't Jazz.

Really? So is this a prequal or a reboot? It makes no sense for this to be a prequal, for example, bumblebee's design. He nearly doubles height, gets a creepy face, looses his "chubby sneaker" aesthetic and changes personality. He also seems to forget all about Charlie? :BANG_HEAD: This goes for every character, I get that the cybertron scene was rushed at the end, and that's why we got the g1 designs, but it's still cannon right? I might take a break from all of this. :HEADHURTS:
