TRU Skywarp G1 reissue

Postby 5kywarp » Sun Nov 18, 2007 6:43 am

My nose cone is rubbish also the missiles are wrong. Anyone else got this one? Am I alone in this dilemma or do I need to buy another?

Unfortunately I lost the missiles from my original G1 Skywarp.

Apparently the nose cone on all reissue Skywarps are 'warped' so to speak. :P Doesn't bother me so much as I display him in robot mode and have two original Skywarps to display in plane mode.

As for the missiles, what exactly is wrong with them? I haven't tried anything with mine as I decided to leave them on the trees.

The missiles on all of the TRU Seeker reissues were lengthened to meet modern US toy safety laws. It sucks but there you are. The nosecones on the other reissues were all alright, Skywarp got a bum deal on this. I'm not sure that it's absolutely all of them, but certainly all that I've seen. I just checked the half dozen that were in stock at Middlesborough last week and not a decent one among them.

Best bet is probably to hit ebay and look for a junker vintage Skywarp with a decent nosecone and some proper missiles. Not likely to find both items in the same auction unless you're willing to pay more than the reissue set you back though.

yeah, the short stubby missiles for plane mode have had the mounting poles extended so they look absolutely stupid.
Crazy!

Going to have a look for a second hand one for spares.
Cheers.

i feel the longer missiles look better than the original, gives the bots a more dynamic look.

Clarification:

The UK release of Skywarp is all kinds of F'd up.

No one can point to a reason why it is different from the very nice, problem free US release.

That nosecone and wing thing is a purely Euro release issue.

Skywarp and I believe all the seekers come with 2 different missiles. The long ones for robot mode (these are fine) and the short stubby ones.

The short ones have a huge ridiculous extension on the mounting poles, surely no-one thinks these look even ok?

Yea, instead of the wing, when plugged into the body of the jet, being flush or nearly flush up against the body, it sticks out a considerable distance. There was a big row over all of this like 2-3 years ago when the toy was released in the UK. Someone put up pictures and a whole lot of folks confirmed they had the same issues.

Ah, you're referring to the gap between the wing and the main body? I thought this was an issue with all of the jets as it seems to be present in Ryan's galleries.

Can you remember if the same issue was present on UK Starscream as, if memory serves, the gap is about the same on both (my Thundercracker has it too but I can't recall if he came out in the UK)?

i have three seekers:takara collection starscream, USA reissue thundercracker, UK reissue skywarp.

the wings on all 3 are the same fit in terms of postion but only the takara SS has the pegs fit nice and tight, both of the hasbro versions have loosely fitting wings that pop out rather easily. luckily they all look good!!

Ah, you see, all three of mine are Hasbro and they all fit tightly. They certainly don't pop out easily. I do have an original Thrust, however, whose wings do fall out after the slightest contact.

interesting that your hasbro versions are tight, mine arent very loose but the takara version by comparison has much tighter fit in the ports. maybe some toys were made with somewhat varying moulds or down to mould wear.

Strangely enough, my reissue Skywarp is an American version but still has this problem. I imported it back when the reissues were first released and the box has an American UPC code on the back rather than a British EAN13. Yet the nosecone is still wrong. It is smooth on top yet bulges over the edge of the plastic on the bottom. :? Was this a problem in a later run of US reissues as well?

Maybe someone could search eBay and look for US versions of the reissue.

I just want a scan of the back of the UK version box so I can prove to myself I'm not going nuts. :?

Or if anyone with the UK version can confirm for me what its barcode is? As far as I'm aware it should be 5010994127107.

I too have noticed the wig gap on all of Ryan's seekers in the galleries, and my encore starscream has a big gap there too.

Thank you, Geek 2. Then it would appear I do have a US reissue with an incorrect nose cone. It's not a malformed shape at all but it is somewhat too big for the rest of the body. Anybody else with the US version notice their Skywarp's nose cone is too big?

They werent changed so that they look better. The missils on the Hasbro reissues were all changed so that little kids wouldnt choke on them as eazy as they could with the originals.

The Hasbro reissues had the long missiles made thicker and the short missiles made longer to prevent choking.

If your going to look for 2nd had original missiles your going to have to look for the launchers too because they were modifyed to hold the thicker missiles and the original might fall out.
