The alt looks great, kinda like that Cobra jet that split in half towards the end of the line(not the NightRaven, I think it was Condor or something).

The bot mode looks very well detailed, so I like that too.

But yeah the Transformation looks overly simple. I'm gonna relate this to a completely diffrent figure who I just got. I'm talking about the Death Star/Darth Vader. A very detailed alt, but depressing since the bot itself just folds over and bot kibble makes the alt.

Sorry, but I like when they take the leap and actualy find a way to make a robot change into something and vice vera as apose to just hidding a bot or slapping a alt in it's back.

That goes double if he's an Ultra. Is it just me or does it seem the larger the scale, the easier the transformation!?!

It's sad that skill ratings never reflect that.

I like him and bet he will combine with the other aieralbots since they hinted at the possiblility down line when the time was right. This might be first in a planed set of release that will take place over several different waves.

That would be pretty cool, but I am not sure that is going to be possible if he's an Ultra class figure. The scale would be very strange unless the other figures were Voyager size.

If they do that, they'll end up doing a new mould. This one, as well as Onslaugt don't have any connector ports.

I would have been alot more impressed by the figure if the robot parts were actually hidden inside the body of the jet instead of haning from the bottom like really bad landing gear.

I can't help speculate the possibility of an entire combiner set. However, before we even begin to question the engineering possibilites, there's business problems to discuss first.

There were no Ultra class figures in Classics. That's a nod in favor of combiners, since having four classes instead of three means that they want the product line to be more diverse, and therefore have more figures. The next hurdle is distribution. We've already seen copious amounts of figures, and it's a question of how to break down the wave assortments. Another thing is pricing. If Ultra class figures cost about $40, then you'd have one $40 Silverbolt and four $10 Deluxe class Aerialbots. Essentially, an $80 figure, sold seperately, some assembly required.

It's a cute gimmick, but one has to wonder if it will aid or hurt the marketability of the individual figures. As has been discussed, Silverbolt is looking unimpressive at the moment, which is particularly disdainful for a $40 figure. If the four othe Aerialbots turned out to be really good, would you want to spend an extra $40 on a brick just to have Superion? If you're not interested in Superion, you'd probably pass on an expensive, unexciting figure.

Now, moving away from Silverbolt, and from marketing and logistics, let's take a look at Onslaught. I've been oogling Onslaught since the beginning to see if there's any flaps or tabs where additional figures might snap on. So far, nothing, but it does look like his arms and legs could be folded up on him to create a larger torso, perhaps with openings for extremities.

If there were to be a combiner, I would expect that the gestalt at least the basic articulation that all the other individual figures have. Maybe with less degrees of freedom, but still not the brick with arms that the original combiners were. These joints would have to be accomodated for somewhere on the figures, likely the arm and leg figures, since the Ultra figure would have to comprise the torso; otherwise, the proportions would be out of whack. The engineering question is, if you have one figure, and two smaller figures joined to it at the knees of what would be a larger figure, how do you connect them at that knee joint and still allow the knee to bend?

Another aspect to look out for as more and more figures surface is accessories. As it is, Onslaught has no accessories that resemble the chestplate or headpiece of Bruticus. If these accessories existed, I would expect them to resemble parts of his alt mode, similar to Optimus Prime's guns that transform into the windguard and smokestacks. If anything like that was including with Onslaught, I'd bet money there'd be a combiner set.

Then again, there's the somewhat misplaced chestpiece accessory for Devastator, originally included with Scrapper. The other accessories make decent sense, but with the headpiece already included as Hook's accessory, I guess Scrapper was the next best choice (of course, the figure is originally from Diaclone, so I have no idea what other decision-making was involved).

I did notice, but I'm not 100% convinced that's what it'll be. They made sure Onslaught had the guns behind his head to give him that distinctive silhouette. All the Classics/Universe figures are homages to the originals, and that shield just wouldn't look right as Bruticus's chest.

It's possible, I'm just not convinced.

Don't get your hopes up. Hasbro and Takara already confirmed that they don't combine with any other figures and that combiners may not be in this years future.

Yeah, I REALLY wanted there to suddenly be word that Hasbro was working on pieces/joints/whatever that would connect these Ultra figures to others.
I think it would work well proportionally if the other team members were only deluxes.
Unfortunately, it's not happening.

I'm actually a little nervous that Hasbro will never even release combiners down the road.
I really feel that if TF2 would've had some sort of combiner, even if it wasn't really based on a G1 team,
Hasbro would be working on that one from the movie, and then the next Universe line in 2009 would have a few Classics teams included.
They said "when the time is right"...
That worries me.
Will there be more interest in TF after the next movie than what we saw from the first one????

Here in Canada they're $40, which is the biggest reason I'd rather they didn't make very many of them.
