USA MP Starscream - Japanese Edition Question

On the following auction, I noticed a piece to the USA Starscream that was not on the original MP Starscream. It is below the fuselage. Does anyone recognize it?

Hummm...it does appear to be some weird ball jointed strut connecting the fuselage to the wings/cannon. Can think what it might be for, maybe it was dropped ant the design stage, rather than being a new part for the US edition?

Possible but from that pic that would mean they would hook to the forearms? Less appealing than the hips methinks.

I just remove my leg fins completely in robot mode.

Maybe the original design allowed the wing mounted guns to rotate so they can point up in robot mode without having to remove them?
