You have nothing to worry about buying any of the TRU reissues. All are the same, if not better, quality than when they were first issued 20+ years ago. Same diecast in same places. Plastic is fine, also.
The only issues are the lack of chrome or oversized plastic for many of the Hasbro TRU reissue weapons. Soundwave (and Hoist) do not have this issue. I don't own this particular Soundwave releasee, but I imagine Hasbro removed the springs in the laser weapon (like they did on others; Inferno/Grapple/Hoist/Smokescreen/etc).
I have the Takara soundwave & soundblaster version, so that's one difference between the Hasbro/Takara releases. Springs.
More differences with this Soundwave are it's actually Soundblaster. The cassette compartment can hold 2 cassettes. The "simulated" tape buttons are molded differently than the 1984 original, also. I imagine this was done because the mold needed repair.
If you must have a Soundwave that is most true to the original than you have to buy a Takara version.
An alternative to buying the TRU version, is you can by the Encore version. You only get Laserbeak, though, but the cassette compartment is the same as the original. The buttons will still be different, though, than the original.
The Dreamwave version is also a choice, but it's price is out of this world.
So, you can have the TRU Soundblaster colored like Soundwave, or you can have the Takara version that is more like the G1 version.
Both are great, though, so you really can't lose. Buying both, is also a choice
