I quite liked animated because it was different, it dared to mix up things. It had its low points, but then, doesn't everything? The toyline that accompanied it was really good as well.

I liked the show a lot. It was funny at times and the plot was pretty good as well. The animation wasn't even bad and I don't get why ppl hate it a lot.

It's actually my favorite series, the designs are very fluid and interesting, the writing is top notch, the toys were great, animation was awesome. I think it might be in a similar situation to Beast Wars where it had a knee jerk reaction at the beginning and people really didn't like it but as time went on they grew fonder of it. I mean it had a BotCon theme dedicated to it so hey, that's gotta mean something.

It had a vision, which was different from the usual directions in the franchises ventures, while still keeping some nods to those other things.
It had amazing art direction and design, and I love Wyatt's style and input into the franchise. It brought in influences from other visual traditions.
It lead to Prime, had an amazing toyline, and some good voice acting.
I loved it.

Well both Beast Wars and Animated had big changes, very similar ones too and both in a sense played on nostalgia to varying degrees.

I want to like it. I think they done the Transformers themselves very well apart from Soundwave and the Constructicons.
But I hate the silly human villains, especially the ridiculous Prof Princess and the grating Headmaster.
But apart from those, I enjoyed it. Nice to see a Prowl that's not a prick. Pity about his shades though.

Naaaah man Prowl rocked those shades, and to be fair he was a huge prick before his cyber ninja training, so that legacy is intact.

Re: What do you think of Transformers: animated?
Love Animated, my second favorite TF show after BW (it might be tied, actually). The characters were great and the Autobots all got a "spotlight" episode, it established a whole world in itself and felt like it knew where it wanted to go (compare to other shows, including BW and Prime, that feel like they're just making it up as they go along), and had a perfect mix of new and old (and had the sense to do more than just endlessly quote a certain movie). And they did an incredible job at translating the characters between show and toy forms.

I loved the series and the subversions and changes it made to the usual formula. The toys are nice, too. Great characterization, development and the design's pretty underrated IMHO. A damned shame it never got that fourth season.

Underrated to heck. Really great series that combined all aspects of the Transformers cosmos and just.. really did a bang up job with it.

I loved the writing and the sheer fan-loving that TFA gave us, a refreshing wakeup call after the snorefest of the Unicron Trilogy and the first film.
On the subject of disliking it, I really didn't like the animation, Bumblebee or the human ally. Sari was too young looking and acting for my taste, the same with Bumblebee, and the animation with the solid pupil eyed humans and the giant chins really ground my gears.
Over all I'd give it an 8 out of 10. Brilliantly written, but two marks subtracted for the animation and kid appeal characters. I'd bump it up too 9 because of that fanwank episode on Cybertron with Ratchet and Fanzone, but them chins are blocking me from doing so.

At BotCon this year, there were fans still asking for season 4 after all this time, and at not one, not two, but three separate panels, even. No other TF cartoon has garnered such a following to have people consistently still asking for it to continue five years after it ended. Sure, we'll get some peopl asking for a return of the G1 cartoon every now and then, but the pleas for Animated season 4 have kept coming back over and over with more frequency and eagerness. That's dedication and appreciation, right there, that goes to show how beloved this series is.

Let's revisit your statement in 20 years and see if people are still clamoring for Animated in the same way they do for G1 today.
You are seriously downplaying how long and how thoroughly G1 has remained in the collective desires of the fandom.

Loved the toys, could never get into the show. The finale was watchable, but a lot of episodes, even later ones, I found cringe-worthy and juvenile. Characters always felt like shallow tropes without a ton of real depth, with forced situations aimed at making them somehow deeper that never really found payoff except with maybe Prowl. Yes, I know that last sentence is true of most TF cartoons, it just felt even more disingenuous in Animated. Don't hate me too hard, this is just this one dude's opinion
Again, I loved the toys, and thought many of the character designs were super creative. I just have no desire for more of the fiction, ever.

What was good about Transformers Animated? It attempted to take the franchise in a different direction, giving new spins on old characters and storylines. But this is nothing new as every iteration of Transformers does this. Animated simply takes it to a new extreme. Also, the toys were amazing despite some of my problems with its aesthetic. However, the toyline has nothing to do with the show.
Where do I begin with it's flaws? Let's start with the characters. Animated is full of terrible clichés. We've got the youngster who's trying to live up to being something greater and a hotheaded kid-appeal character. On top of that, they give us a handful of stereotypes like Bulkhead (the big, dumb, clumsy fat guy), Prowl (do I even need to explain this one?), Ratchet (the cranky old guy), Sentinel (the asshole who's an asshole for the sake of being an asshole), Lugnut (the overly-loyal minion), Starscream (the only thing they did differently with him was stick a shard in his forehead), the Constructicons (ugh), Wasp (stupid revenge arc), and so forth.
Secondly, Animated was full of stories of I've heard of before. The only time they remotely surprised me was with Sari's past, but that's about as far as it went. I don't have a problem with predictable stories so far as it becomes predictable after the third act, or close to the end. Some of these episodes weren't even worth watching because they've been done before.
Don't get me started on the crappy animation. If you're going to call your series "Transformers Animated," you might want to try and animate. Most of the time, this show's visuals were choppier than sliced bananas. Nothing impressive, especially when I've seen better with so many other shows around at the time. With that said, the aesthetic is pathetic, as its way too cartoon-y for my tastes. We get it, it's a cartoon. You don't need to maximize everyone's chins just to make this obvious.
Overall, Transformers Animated isn't god-awful like G1 and Energon, but it's still not a very good show. I've seen so much better, and Animated attempts to take what I've seen before and apply it to this franchise. I'm sure the fourth season would have been a massive improvement given what I've heard we were getting, and the third season was decent compared to the slop of the first two, but what we did get overall was a disappointment. I like to remember Transformers Animated as what it was best: a great toyline.

I *loved* Transformers Animated. It took me some time to adjust to the art style, but the writing, characters, humor, tone, and overall story were just so perfectly done, that I was hooked by the end of the first episode.
It reminded me of everything I liked about G1 when I was a kid, and the thought of THIS being a new generation of kids' Transformers just warmed my heart.
Nothing against Prime, I thought that was pretty great too (what I watched of it, anyway) but Animated was just utterly spectacular. James Roberts' amazing MTMTE comics often remind me of Animated, come to think of it.

In a weird way, recent/current things like MTMTE make me miss Animated even more. You just *know* Whirl or Swerve or Tarn or somebody would've made a cameo, if not a recurring guest role.

It's a great series to introduce kids to the world of transformers, with great homage to the entire scope of the franchise, fluid animations and fun characters.
But it was a bit too young for me, I could not get into it aside from the Lockdown episodes (he is an awesome character). My favourite part of it are the toys that came out. I am so amazed at how they translated the cartoony designs to toy form and they are all so sleek and kibble free in both modes. That toy line is easily one of the best ever (along with HFTD and Cybertron).

It was really entertaining. Get passed the first few episodes (as with most recent series.) and the entertainment begins. It is a bit different than other series in the sense that I felt that most autobot characters took on a slight different personality. Even Optimus, to me, seemed like a less confident leader. It a short series, 3 seasons i think, so it'll go by fast. The animation style is directed more towards children but if you love Transformers than I have no doubt you'll like this one as well.
