Which Series Did It For You?

Postby Sylus » Tue Mar 18, 2008 11:40 pm

Which TF series got you into collecting? I was born in 86 so the G1 series was already done by the time I could understand TV. I had 1 VHS of the series, episode 6 of season 1. I rented the movie and loved it but by then the toys weren't on the shelves anymore, not at wal-mart or k-mart anyways.

Then in the late 90's I turned on the TV one afternoon after getting home from school and put it on FOX like I always did and what came on? The first episode of Beast Wars and it was love at first sight. I bought every toy I could and pretty soon had a huge collection of BW/BM toys, which I later sold due to my family telling me to "grow up". I regret it very much to this day but ya can't change the past. Then Armada came on CN and once again I was hooked and ever since then I have been collecting them as much as I can.

Anyone else remember what made them start collecting?

I first started collecting during Cybertron. The only toy I had was Energon Rodimus, but I went to ToysRus and just decided to check out the action figures. I wanted a Decepticon, and chose Beast mode Megatron. Then I got some more for Christmas, and soon I just wanted more. I made it worse by constantly checking for new toys, reading bios on wikipedia, and then I found Seibertron...and it took off like a jet from there. :D

Been collecting since G1. I already had a huge giant robot obsesion way before G1 after seeing Jim Terry's Force Five(Shogun Warriors) cartoon series(1980).

I vividly remember the TV comercial for the G1 comic book and for the cartoon series(3 days only...). lol

I started to collect with G1 in the 1980s then had a 20 year absence until last year....Alt/BT got me back into it...thanks to Bluestreak. In terms of G1...I went from 8 to 60 in the past year.

Beast Wars.

which is quite ironic since the first time i saw the TV show, waaaaay back in high School (1996), i hated every concept of it. 8)

I collected a lot of G1 and then nothing all through G2 (which I saw as the low point of TFs...they all looked like knock-offs to me). In college, I remember running through the store and saw the BW Optimus Prime/Megatron 2-pack...and I've hit every line since then.

i think cybertron brought me back. i got back from afghanistan in 07 and after drinking myself into a stuper for months, i found some cybertron figures at a local walmart and was actually amazed that the TF series was still going. i remember seeing energon and thinking it was nearing its end. but now that i look back on energon, i wish i had picked up every figure i could find. it didnt help that i started collecting at the tail end of cybertron but i still managed to pick up about 25 figures altogether. im picking and choosing with G1, i never liked all of the figures as a kid, and now that i have some amount of money i can pick and choose exacty which figures i want. animated looks to be awesome and i think its gonna do me in from there...

for me it was the movie.. although i did have some g1 figures back in the day but unfortunately i gave them away over 15 years ago cause i though it wasn't cool anymore and i had to grow up.
so the movie brought the tf figures back in my life and then beast wars.

I was 7 when G1 came out, and it all started with G1 Hound. I've still got something from every single line (except Machine Wars) G1, G2, BW, BM, RID, A/E/C, Classics, Masterpiece, Binaltech, Alternators, Movie, Universe, and I have money set aside for parts of Animted and most of Universe/Classics 2.0.

They've had me since the very beginning, and they have my kids with Animated, so they will keep me for a long time coming!

I remember watching alot of G1 when I was a kid but I never had much from the toy line, though when G2 hit I did manage to get a fair number of toys from that line. However, since I was stil lvery young I would not say I was a collector. although I watched Beast Wars it never grabbed me in the same way that G1 did so I didn't bother with it. RiD was what brought me back in, but after that series ended I stopped un until the movie. As it got closer to releaser I started going into toy stories and ailes again looking for Transformers and now I'm avid about it.

Weapon: Diffraction Sword
I was born in 83, and started getting TFs around 86, 87, so it was all post-movie stuff. Powermasters, Pretenders, Actionmasters, and so forth. When the toys and comics ended in 91(?) I thought it was all over. Then G2 came along, which was my chance to finally get some of the original G1 molds (Prime, Jazz, Sideswipe, etc). Overall, I really enjoyed the G2 line. Then Beast Wars came along and I was a bit puzzled by the toys at first, but I bought a few. Once I saw the TV show, I was hooked. I love the concept of multiple crew of Cybertronians on various ships throughout the galaxies, and often wish Hasbro had taken that route instead of rebooting the continuity every few years. With the end of BW/BM, I moved on, keeping my figures in storage, until Armada came along. I remembering hearing about Armada and thinking it could be awesome, but I wasn't as impressed once it came out. Still, it made me glad to see TFs surviving, and I picked up Prime, Megatron, and a few other figures that caught my eye. Same for Energon and Cybertron. I guess I just didn't really care for the AEC tv series, but I still bought the figures that I found appealing. Cybertron actually brought my interest back up a bit. Cybertron Prime is a great looking figure.

The G1-BW-BM continuity will probably always be my favorite, but I've enjoyed at least one aspect of all the lines since. I'll be buying a few Animated figures (Prime, Megatron, Blackarachnia, Grimlock for sure, as well as any others that catch my eye once they hit stores), and I'm hyped for Universe/Classics2.0.

well i started with G1, as about 4 or 5 toys, then after G1 i kinda stopped for about 15 years, saw Beastwars on TV and didnt like it, didnt bother with TFs until about 5 years ago my sister got me a Reissue G1 OPs for xmas, to make up for the one she broke 20 years ago, briefly reinspired i looks at the current TFs in store at the time (Armarda) and bought a Bendy Prime...then i stopped again until about 18 months ago when i got MP Prime and started watching/collecting Cybertron, now have about 40 TFs and am really looking forward to the Animated toys

Since I grew up with G1, G1 happens to be my favorite. I love all of G1 up until Beast Machines. I never liked that show. It is too dark blue for my tastes. Not to mention Cybertron becoming an organic planet with plants and animals. Bad idea. Anyway, G1 is my favorite. The Unicron Trilogy is weak in my opinion. Same with Animated.

I watched G1 as a kid, and really loved it. Unfortunately I had very few of the toys. I asked my parents then for an Optimus Prime toy (big red truck) and got a Gobot Road Ranger instead. One can understand the confusion. Yeah right.

After that I forgot about TF's for a while. Beastwars came and went, and while i saw a few of the epsidoes, I did not feel the need to collect. But then out of nowhere comes R.I.D.

I was watching the cartoon, and saw Prime and Magnus combine, and thought wow that's so cool. So I was talking to a friend of mine which actually collected Legos and a few TF's back then and he actually talked me into going down to my local toy store to buy something. (I was thinking I'd get Prowl, or Sideburn, but found Prime and Magnus. I picked both up. And boy was I hooked.

Started collecting them at that point.

I always had G1 stuff coming in from relatives and friends for Christmas and birthdays and such. I started a G2 gift circle with a few friends when I was in middle school. I actually started collecting with my own income when Beast Wars popped up.

I was only alive for 4 years of the 80's, so G1 had been going on for 2 years already. I really got into TF's when Beast Wars came out while I was in elementary school. I had almost all the figures from the show too, which reminds me I need to get them from our storage shed

I remember taking a few of them over to a friend's house who had afew older TF's. I remember he had a G2 Prime and for some dumbass reason I kept thinking that somehow Optimus Prime was Optimus Primal's dad. 8-} 8-} 8-} 8-} 8-} 8-} 8-} 8-} 8-} 8-} 8-} 8-} 8-} 8-}

I was born in '74, so G1 got me started. My first two TFs were Sunstreaker and Brawn, I had even bought them with my own money. After that I was hooked on the line, even though my interest wavered during the later years. I can remember being a Jr/Sr in high school and still picking up the occasional Micromaster Patrol(I didn't like Pretenders or ActionMasters at the time), and even a couple of early G2 figures before I started college.

I missed BW almost completely(survival and education came first), although I loved the show, I hadn't even bought a BW fig until around 1999. Now I have most of the US line, and a few BW II/Neo figs.

I started poking around in stores again right around the time that RID was fizzling out, but I do remember buying the Target Exclusive Dreadwind/Smokejumper('02,I believe?), and the rest is history, I've collected from every line since, including imports.
I told the fire to go **** itself, and it did.

G1 started in my prime childhood years so I was always getting them for Christmas/birthdays but I didn't actually buy a TF with my own money until Classics so I would say I became a collector then.

I would always look at the TFs whenever I went in a store during the years between G1 and Classics but they never looked good enough to buy. I liked the Beast Wars show, but thought the figures looked weak. (I've since picked up a few of them.) Nothing could get me to crack the wallet until I saw Classics Bumblebee.

It wasn't necessarily a series that got me started collecting back in the day, it was the look of the G1 line itself that got me, and the show just sunk the hook in deeper! I collected RABIDLY the entire G1 line, and when they started with the HeadMasters and TargetMasters, I stopped....it came off as too gimmicky to me and the figures were all cheap-looking plastic IMO....Sold off most of my G1 collection to support various issues I fell into....

I got back into collecting for no apparent reason whatsoever, really...happened about mid-winter 2006-2007...had no idea there was a movie coming out back then either...Was an odd thing indeed as to what exactly tugged that hook once more, but I am glad it happened!

Once TF collecting gets into your blood, it never goes away.....

G1 for me. Born in 1974. Some how, some way, I got a lot of hand me down, garage sale G1 TF back when our family didn't have a lot of dough. After that, now that I'm in my thirties... movie, movie, movie. Now I have over 200 figures.
