Who has the most useless alt mode?

There is more to Transformers than movies, cartoons, comics and toys. Discuss anything else Transformers here.

Dudes, just saying, no TF (officially) will be pants. It's not much of a problem.

How can it be a "useless alt mode" if it doesn't have one?

Exactly. It's useless cause it isn't there.

I've just watched some powerlinking from Energon, and I must say

UH?!

I thought they would actually transform like the combiner limbs from G1. Not fold themselves in half. I can now see why you would say they are not alt modes. I'm even tempted to say that. They just fold themselves in half. Can that be classed as an alternate mode? I mean, it's just the robot mode folded in half. It...It's madness!

I actully have some of the Energon toys, they don't simply "fold in half" that's only 1 step in the transformation for some of them. (Maily only Rodimus and Miss Marked Downshift do that.)

Hmm. Well, if they actually do transform properly, like G1 combiner limbs, then I'll keep with them being an alt mode. You know more about what powerlinking involves than me, so I'll take your word on it.

If you wanna talk not transforming, the G1 combiners, some of them don't transform at all they just stay in Vehicle mode and you attach a foot or a fist to it's bumper.

I seem to remember the arms on Devistator all you have to do is attach the fists and pull the pegs out that connect into the body.

Not quite ... G1 combiners required you to do something to at least reveal the head which was often the connecting point.

Powerlinking however does involve a few more steps.

So I suppose by that definition you're all now going to tell me scramble city limbs are multi-changers? ;;)

Forgive me, I thought we were talking about show only, not toys as well.

We need a definate vote on combiner limbs, as Burn raises a good point about the Scramble City limbs.

How about, any mode that doesn't involve combining with any other is classed as an alt mode? This means powerlinking and combiners are not included, but the Masters are.

:-?

Not sure about excluding Masters. Power and Heads especially as even though they can transform without combining, they're functions don't exactly kick in until combined.

On the other hand they transform into their alt mode without the assistance of another bot.

Tough call.

I was worried about those masters when I said that. We can all agree that Targetmasters are definatly included as having alt modes though (same princpal as G1 Megs) and Rebirth showed they can hover and shoot on their own.

As for Power and Heads, I would say they are classed as having an alt mode, but for the purposes of this discussion, they are excluded as an engine is a pretty useless alt mode.

How does that sound?

They're kinda half and half aren't they?

On their own as alt modes they're useless. But when combined with a larger robot they serve a necessary function.

Split it. Sometimes useless, sometimes necessary.

animated laserbeak, the guitar. if he actiually is meant to be a spy that is, but we shall have to see. i mean come on, as micro cassette, under some papers in a slightly open drawer, you aren't going to notice. the 80's or now, 'oh look a great big guitar in the corner of my office, but i shall not treat is as suspicious despite the fact that neither my job nor me has any reason to have a guitar in my office.' yeah, like that will work
