My 10 top list "for today" is as follows:
I apologise but I have to disagree with you on almost all counts. What's wrong with Squeezeplay's colours? Dark blue, purple, grey, classic 'Con colours. And he's from a period where nothing being produced looked like earth stuff so that really doesn't hold weight.1987 Squeezeplay. a over all weird looking toy in both modes. a super weird upside/down type transfotmation. doesn't look like any animal I've ever seen on the earth. awful colors.Beastwars Transmetal 1 optimus primal. I remember the on-line jokes fans made when they said which is mode is the robot mode. not a bad scupt compared to others. it's just weird the robot mode looked more beastly while the beast mode looked more robotic.
Okay I'll give you this one. Between the awesome Leader Optimus Primal and the Optimal Optimus this figure was a bit of a sad milestone along the way. He's not that weird though.Yeah, Injector's weird and Ratorta's even weirder. Unlike some of the other figure's I've ragged on Injector was very much meant to be bizarre.beastwars deluxe fuzor injector. what a ugly toy in both modes. this toy takes the whole mis-proportioned body parts to new levels.A bad mold but not an especially weird one.Beastmchines mega sized Megatron. what a awful toy. the robot face sculpt was just horrible. had this toy been a bit bigger in size, the stuff they were trying to accomplish like extra design sculpt & gimmicks would have worked a lot better. not a fan of the skinny tubalor type design in both modes. It's true, the trottlebots had issues. Not least being called trottlebots. Having to find a toilet at a moment's notice is always tough. Really though, these guys were the cheap price point figures and if you're looking for poseability 1987 is not the place to be looking for it.1987 trottlebot goldbug,3 years later & the bumblebee character type toy loses more poseability than the 1984 toy had. not a fan of the simplified tranformation gimmick.Actually I quite like their alt modes. Sure, Mudflap is an alarming fibre-intensive-diet brown but Skids is quite a pleasant colour. I always felt that if these guys had different headsculpts they would be really good figures.ROTF Twins,i'm counting them as one, since they work together & probably can't function seperatly. i'm not a fan of the extremly ugly & distorted looking faces. what's up with one arm/hand being bigger than the other. horrible colors & every day booring alt modes chosen.Yeah, I'll give you this one.beastwars transmetal 2 basic sized optimus minor. what a ugly tiny toy. it's got not good going for it in design sculpt in either mode. What's wrong with Clocker? The worst you can say about him is that he's a little generic. He has a neat little alt mode and a competent robot mode. Why pick on him, really?Cybertron basic sized clocker, the worst designed basic for the entire AEC toy line. too simply, wimpy & weird looking. colors don't help.Again, he's more generic that terrible. Just your typical early Beast Wars basic-class dude.beastwars iguanus, just a horrible mess as far as engineering goes. design sculpt isn't that great either. ugly robot face sculpt.Aw, but he's so cute! There are way weirder figures in the movieverse (ie Dreadwing)Rotf deluxe sized breakaway. the ugly tiny robot head ruins the whole toy. the brown colors bring the mold down ever more. this toy shines in the thrust dark red colors with the new head sculpt.

At first there were rumours. As these things do, they spread. A film would be made. A big budget Hollywood movie. A script had been written. A director had been found. Among the fandom the tension was palpably building. Could it be true? A live action Transformers movie? Then we got to see our first hints of what the Transformers would look like in the film and the fandom reacted in a calm and rational manner
Where do you even get a pitchfork and a lighted torch nowadays?
It was a controversial time with Bumblebee looking as if the Terminator had fallen over in some custard. Some fans with especially engorged denial glands decided that this was some sort of endo-skeleton that blocky G1 CGI goodness could be applied to later.
But Michael Bay knew full well that a movie about blocky, stylised robots would never sell.
For once the everything-must-be-1984 crowd didn't get their own way and the new designs stayed. Even more strangely the Decepticon designs featured insectoid faces and digitigrade legs as though they were a whole different species to Autobots.![]()
"No man is born evi...well actually I guess I was."
Is this going somewhere?
The designs were kept because Michael Bay is actually an alien who needs to consume fanboy tears in order to survive. But by 2009 most fans had become inured to the new designs and were starting to get a type of Stockholm syndrome about them. Clearly we were over the worst of...
Wait for it...
Wait for it...
oh wait no
DELICIOUS FANSORROW.
#3: Demolishor
The 2007 designs, fragmented, alien and awkward though they were at least had arms, legs and a head of some description. Demolisher was a whole different kettle of weird. When Bumblebee above was revealed he had that hint of credibility that made fans cover their ears and say "lalala". When we first saw Demolishor though we knew there was no way that could be his real robot mode. It had to be a mistransformation or one part of a combined mode or something.
It had to be. Dear lord it had to be.
But sadly it was for real. The robot and the figure based on it. Because apparently a warrior doesn't need hands, or legs, or a back, just a good strong head. In the movie he was designed purely to be rolling car-chase and explosion fodder with a very stabbable face. As a figure he was $20 worth of plastic and regret.
Notably he was part of the combiner Devastator but this figure couldn't even combine with anything. I can't speak for everyone else but when dropping those funds on a figure I expect at least one finger. The only finger we got regarding this figure is one from Hasbro.
#3: Honourable Weirdness
Luckily Hot Rod's more a breast man than a leg man.
Apparently having a complete set of limbs is for losers in the movieverse. Bear in mind that the above figure was made after this one:
"Too many legs."
That's it for entry number 3. Please stay tuned for the final two.
The disruptor cannon is now operational. And as it happens, our targets are right in line with Diem. We shall destroy both in a single, glorious onslaught of weird figures!

It's whatever the %$#* is going on between her tires and her torso. She's got like fifteen joints just crammed in there for no reason.

Honestly with everything in life including transformers toys the following saying applies: "If you don't like then don't buy."
If various people/fans are completist then that's their problem.
I only buy the transformers toys I trully like. those I don't like/loate I don't buy & I leave for the next guy to buy.
Their is just no way every single TF toy ever made is going to please everybody. their will always be stuff to like & stuff to hate.
because these TF toys are being made for EVERYONE & not just ONE person.
Optimum Supreme wrote:Yeah, I hated the Throttlebots so much I returned them all to the store, but I wouldn't say they're weird nor even ugly, just bad, bad toys.

I agree, the 2007 Arcee was a fantastic mold. The only thing I don't like about it apart from general movie-ness is the asymmetrical head.RK_Striker_JK_5 wrote:Demolisher is weird... but I love the guy. Arcee is a piece of slag, especially compared to the 2007 design. The 2007 design was above-average IMHO. Nothing really wrong with it and a lot right, if that makes sense.
craggy wrote:(BTW, I'm fully aware these are alien robots and there's not a huge amount of logical reason to why they should look like human beings in their "robot" modes, but I also don't mind terribly that Superman was shot off of his dying planet at a moment's notice and ended up landing on a planet that had a dominant race that is outwardly identical to him, and coincidentally has a sun and atmosphere that gives him godlike superpowers. I suspend disbelief to some extent because less worrying about how "freaky and weird and different" these various alien characters are means more time to explore their characters and worry about telling a good story. OTOH, "ooh look at Demolishor roll about!")
Optimum Supreme wrote:Wow, seeing movie Demolisher get #3 makes me REALLY curious just what could top that for weird, and then what could top the one to top that.
Good stuff, Diem. I'm also in the process of reading your 26 alt modes stuff from a while ago, that's good stuff too.

I kinda think she's wearing a kicky little beret.
Diem wrote:So to sum up, this figure is a good Decepticon who used to be a bad Autobot who is a repaint of an ex-Autobot Decepticon; he took the colours of a evil Autobot who who is a homage to an Autobot who was a repaint of another Autobot whose name was used for a Decepticon who was a repaint of another guy. And he comes with a Minicon who is a Micromaster.
