A two-Broadside solution

Postby Dark Starscream » Mon Jan 22, 2024 6:19 am

If you're looking for a Marvel Broadside to size with your Wreckers and other Triple Changers, then this needs to be in Voyager or Leader-size:

But if you're looking for Sunbow Broadside, or a big aircraft carrier, then I feel this needs to be in Titan scale:

So there really is a tale of two Broadsides.

But I feel that the Commander size would be the worst of both worlds: He'd be too small as an aircraft carrier, and too small to pair against Devastator and Predaking.

If the smaller, Marvel-look is your thing, then a Commander size would be too big to stand side-by-side with the other Triple changers in his Marvel robot form (a robot form we've never gotten).

That's why I propose a two-Broadside solution. Either:

1) Make two Broadsides: a Titan with the Burden-Hardest-to-Bare look, and a Leader-class Broadside with the Marvel-look, separated in release by a few years, or

2) A Titan (or Haslab) Broadside that includes the smaller Broadside that combines into the Titan mode, either as the head or chest like Mainframe did with the Ark.

I'm imagining a two-Broadside solution in which the smaller Broadside (Voyager or Leader-class in Marvel form) does his full Triple-Changer thing, but his carrier mode can function independently and also snap into Sunbow Broadside's carrier mode to make the tower plus the section of the larger carrier around the tower.

When Marvel Broadside is not attached to Sunbow Broadside in carrier mode, maybe this section of the carrier is an exposed storage area, command center, or covered with a big weapon (like an axe/sail).

The more I think about it, a Titan Broadside should come out in a Minicon/Micromaster revival wave to support tiny jets, including a re-release or redo of Universe Superion/Sixwing.

Image

And if a Haslab Broadside is made as a Titan/Voyager combo, he should also come with this little guy! Three birds with one stone.

Image

And just dreaming here:

If Hasbro went with the Haslab or Titan route, maybe this Broadside minicon could be done as a Titan Master head for Voyager Marvel Broadside, and the TM also combines with an accessory to make the 6-wheeled Personnel Carrier mode/weapon (like TM Nighbeat, Terri-bull, Clobber, etc).

The Broadside combo could even be repainted or retooled as a combo of Micromasters Flattop and Gutcruncher.

Hasbro doesn't use molds that old in modern main lines. They also haven't included a bonus figure in Titans since the Ark, they certainly aren't going to include 6 unrelated ones.

Whatever their plans are for a new Broadside you can bet it'll be a Leader since that seems to be the current trend.

You aren't wrong. If you want to have a very accurate collection you'd want a larger Boradside and a smaller Broadside in those models. At the same time we haven't even gotten one decent Broadside yet. And his G1 toy has this terrible jet mode on top of another bad alt. mode.

But, also ... would anyone pay a titan class price point for Broadside?

Not out of the box, no, but it doesn't take that much work to sort TR Broadside's jet mode.

Aside from the OP? Probably not.

I mean, except for color scheme, Marvel Broadside is never going to happen except as an unlicensed toy anyway. Because Marvel Broadside is based on a pre-final design for the toy that Hasbro had to scrap and have someone hastily dash out a replacement for when his original designer abruptly left and took their ball with them. As far as scale goes, we luckily already have a Broadside that size: Titans Return. He needs a little modding to sort out the jet mode, but is otherwise a solid figure.

1. Functioning as an aircraft carrier for Aerialbots that at this point (barring reissue) can only be reasonably obtained in bootleg form is not a high priority for a lot of people. He'd still be big enough to be cool and playable (and to drop on Devy's head) at Commander size; you couldn't use him with Aerialbots, but there are Micromaster jets.
2. He'd also be just fine up against literally ever other combiner at Commander size, and scale about right with the SS86 Dinobots. Commander size would also make him more palatable price-wise and space-wise to people. Very few people are so into Broadside that they would pay Titan-class money for him and find the space for a Titan-class version. Even Commander would be kinda a tough sell.

Dark Starscream wrote:If the smaller, Marvel-look is your thing, then a Commander size would be too big to stand side-by-side with the other Triple changers in his Marvel robot form (a robot form we've never gotten).
As stated above, we're never getting that robot form from HasTak anyway. That design is something they do not own and cannot touch. The best you can hope for officially is probably a TR reissue in that color scheme.

Why Leader? Voyager-class would be fine for comic/toy-scale Broadside. The only Triple-changers who I'd say Leader-class serves a purpose for are Astrotrain and Octane (who we should have gotten instead of Blitzwing; Blitzwing did not need to be Leader-class, and gained bugger-all real benefit from the extra mass and budget). Why the smeg the upcoming Sandstorm is Leader-class, I have no idea; hopefully it's not as stupid as Putzwing turned out.

Dark Starscream wrote:2) A Titan (or Haslab) Broadside that includes the smaller Broadside that combines into the Titan mode, either as the head or chest like Mainframe did with the Ark.
Does not seem especially likely.

Dark Starscream wrote:I'm imagining a two-Broadside solution in which the smaller Broadside (Voyager or Leader-class in Marvel form)
Then you're deluding yourself on multiple levels. One we've already established, one is the idea that Broadside would actually receive enough orders to be done as a Haslab (Assuming he even reached the preorder campaign stage), and one is with regards to the second Broadside's size. In the unlikely event of them doing a Titan Broadside, the smaller Broadside would be a Deluxe and no bigger. Any bigger would cut too much into the main figure.

Although... To go off on a tangent...
You know who's already been done as a Titan and who it would make sense for them to do a separate, Leader-class version of though? Tidal Wave.
WANT:
* Cyb. Galvatron key, missiles
* Omega Lock
* Primus Cyber Key, coattail panel
* Powerlinx Comettor
* Leader Sentinel Prime sword, shield
* RiD Galvy dragon head, beast arms
* Leader Ironhide windshield, R hood assy.
* Cyb. Wing Saber left chestplate (argh)

Because titan Tidal Wave got a smaller Tidal Wave inside of him to satisfy the dumbass combination gimmick with Megatron, there's an honest politician's chance he will get a separate smaller figure any time soon.

As for Broadside, he has even less of that chance to get a titan class figure. A leader or even a commander I can see, but (unfortunately for me) it won't be the Marvel design but the animation one. Ironically, the aforementioned small-TW-inside-big-TW would be an acceptable solution for getting both versions of Broadside.

If he did get a titan, it could make for an adequate crossover as the USS Flagg.
