You're a grown man and you need to stand up to your parents and tell them "Hell no!".

Tuition is *their* concern, not your's. Why?

1.) You put in years of hard work at school, you earned a scholarship (I'm assuming), there are grants to be had, etc.

2.) You didn't ask to be born (though people are glad to have you, make no mistakes about that), your parents brought you into this world, and once they put you on this planet, it's their full responsibility to make sure that you get up on your feet and get started. Once you're out of the house and on your own, then (and only then) should you have to be concerned with sh*t like this.

While I'm not disagreeing with your advice to him (yes, it's wrong for his parents to try to force him to sell his collection, and tell him how he spends his money), I don't agree with your view on tuition.

Some parents just can't afford to pay their kids' tuition, whether it should be their responsibility or not. My parents would have had to take out loans to put me (and my 2 younger siblings) through school, and with a mortgage, car loans, and credit card debt, they just couldn't do it. It's not always easy raising a family, and while some would argue that you shouldn't have kids until you're financially able, people can't always forsee their future financial situation.

I didn't save for tuition like I should have, so I took out student loans, and I'm dealing with it on my own. I've been living on my own since I was 18 (5 years), paying my rent, bills and now loan payments, but I'm making it work so far. My parents couldn't pay my way through school, but at least they taught me how to be responsible and look out for myself.

In short, I'm saying if his parents can't afford to send him to school, then it is in his best interests (and their duty as parents) that they are urging him to save up for tuition, so that even if they can't pay for it themselves, they are still ensuring that he has a bright future. No, he definitely should not be forced to save all of his money for it, but they're not wrong to want him to save for his future.

So anyway, that was kind of a long-winded debate...

Basically, to the author of the thread: Everyone's giving you some good advice, you should talk to your parents about it, and make it clear to them that you're not neglecting your future. Hopefully they'll understand, and you can work something out that will let you keep your collection. If you're old enough to be saving for tuition, you're definitely old enough that you should be able to make your own choices, and they can't force you to do something like selling all your figures.

I think 99% of us would not have been born if our parents waited for financial stability

lol, you're probably right. But some people have the money pretty early on... my girlfriend's parents were set, kids were almost like an afterthought to them... :?

Okay, okay, lets calm down here.

A lot of the time the parents are totaly justified in what they do. Firstly, maybe, just maybe, tuition fees ARE more important that transformers. You know, one's fun, the other can potentially set you up for the rest of your life.
Secondly, WHY, are tuition fees the perants responcability? I think it should be his as well. Also, if you are living at their house, not paying rent, eating their food, using their electricity, water, interent, maybe, just maybe, they have a right to a cetrain extent to expect you to listen to them and not to waste you money on stuff when it is needed elsewhere.

Personally I wouldnt want to sell my tfs ever, and I dont think my folks would ever insiste on it, but that dosnt mean I dont respect what they say.

Back on topic, if the tfs you wanna sell are open, you probably wont get an aweful lot on them, as they are very recent and easy to get hold of.

I would say just listen to your parents and sell your toys that you think you are able to part with. Since you mention, you are not much of a Transformers fan, there is really no need to "grow" your collection or have everything.

Just keep the robots that you really like and sell the rest. There are better toys in future. Your parents are right: money are better spent on somewhere else. It is good to have a few favourite toys but that is that. At least that is my rule.

Yeah, your right. He should just do what his parents say. And later on they can dress him, tell him its past 8pm and he shouldnt go out, tell him that music is evil and girls are the devil!

Belive it or not i knew someone who's parents were like that. And then he killed himself.

They are called balls. Use them for courage and stand up for yourself. Why o why should you have to give up something you like!?

Please tell me how your particular approach will in any way foster a peaceful household environment?

I'm sorry but your advise sounds like teen whine-rock. The guy still lives in his parent's house, eats their food, and uses their resources. They do have a say in what he does until he moves out. I certainly don't agree that he should sell his collection, but circumstances definitely seem to indicate that he should alter his buying habits in some way. Staunchly plowing ahead against their wishes will only breed further confrontation.
