Are errors in G1 cartoons DELIBERATE?

Postby Screambug » Sun Apr 08, 2007 10:27 am

You know, Starscream twins and a Decepticon insignia on an Autobot's chest. There's NO WAY those could be mistakes, unless the animators are very blind or something. In fact, one Starscream would literally speak to the other one!

I think the staff liked to mess with the heads of the small kids watching the cartoon at the time, right? :P

It's a product of lack of communication between the US studio and the foreign animators. It's not just Transformers and still happens sometimes.

Also they were done fast, quick, and cheap. So the animators
probably didn't give a rat's ass one way or the other.

This was a regular cartoon way before anyone even dreamed about CGI. I'm sure they noticed the mistakes, but to fix them would have costed way too much time, money, and energy given that they would have redo the entire scene.

Nowadays, if something like were to happen, all they have to do is click a few buttons and problem fixed.

It's easy to say "How could they think Soundwave was an Autobot," or "why would they colour two characters the same," but what I think what you really has to remember is that the wage-slaves sitting there drawing and painting these things didn't actually know anything ABOUT the cartoon. So, mistakes based on a lack of actual knowledge of the show's characters were going to happen.

I was actually wondering about that yesterday. Are there any other shows with animation erros to the extent of Transformers G1? It really was pretty bad at times.

Not to that extent, but I've seen plenty of shows were the character speaking on screen is not the character who is actually vocally speaking.

I'm sure it is probably hard to find any other shows were the animation errors are as bad as in G1. It was a show that focused around robots who other than some superstructural and color differences had similar designs. Most of the other hero/action cartoon shows have characters that differ greatly in appearance and basis.

Plus if they have miserable pay, they would not give a smeg about weather or not there's mistakes or errors. :-?

It just adds to the fun of G1! :P One of my favs occurs in MTMTE part one, where they show Prime using Megatron's voice, saying "Attack! Attack!" when the Decepticons are boarding the Ark.

Right right. There are many examples of this with shows from that era and even into the 90's. There are even animation errors in more recent cartoons such as Clerks and Invader Zim, albeit much more subtle. Also, the latter was much more successful in covering up mistakes using clever sound effects, thus turning the mistakes into a joke that seemed intentional.

Armada has some pretty terrible animation/naming errors due to Hasbro rushing it out the door :/ Could've been so much more...

I remember that the first TMNT cartoon had problems like that too. In one early episode i think it was the first one, there were coloring mistakes and in one shot there were 5 turtles. I don't know how to explain that

But you can't help but admire the beautifully painted backgrounds and some of the most dynamic personalities the characters ever had.

Good point.

I can think of one cartoon that might have more errors due to almost everybody looking the same. Anybody here rememeber the Smurfs?

Lol, this reminds me of watching that outtake video of Thundercats where all the characters are cursing and are high/drunk. Helps me understand a little bit lol. But I was a kid back in the 80's and this show was bigger than life, so its all good.

Hot Rods amazing ability to transform 3 different ways, Devestator pounding the crap out of the Dinobots and their eyes literally popping out of there heads. Dead TF's living TF's who knows???. The list is incredibly long.
