I couldn't agree more. I work with a pro hockey team and am on very good terms with a number of MDs (as well as being a nurse). These docs (2 ED docs and a PCP) are treating the H1N1 as a joke! The President in his inifinite wisdom has declared a national emergency over this. Yeah right. The H1N1 has killed about 5,000 people this year WORLDWIDE. The other strains of the flu have killed 300,000. The fatality rate is THE SAME as the other influenzas. This is nothing special or unique. I'm sorry, but- working in health care- most health care professionals are regarding this as a joke...some are even taking it as far as a conspiracy theory. Crazy. I doubt this flu is going to be nearly as bad as "experts" seem to think.

Working in the military medicine has me thinking the same thing, however the military in all of its wisdom is going to make me get it...ughhh

I've heard the same thing. It's not nearly as bad as regular flu strains, so why is it getting all the hype? If it were just that, I wouldn't be worried. The only thing is I heard that nearly half of Canadians (I'm north of the border) aren't getting it, so will it spread farther and faster here if almost half of us aren't protected? Does that make it more dangerous now? Then again, considering what Negare said, do these shots really protect us? Plus, while less people get hit, is it more severe than the regular flu for those that do? We're making an appointment for our daughter to get her immunizations up to date and I can ask all the questions to her doctor about H1N1, but will I get the straight answer or just their prepackaged sales pitch?

Add to that the fact that, while it was tested, it wasn't tested on her age group (they can't legally test it on infants).

We're leaning on not giving it to her, but there are some things that make me want to give in. I do acknowledge that H1N1 is riding on hype, but I don't want to ignore all the angles.

I for one believe that getting sick, is actually good for you. There are plenty of people who may need it, but generally not me...I could get sick, but i'm insured and healthy.

Now..that being said. I'm going to get it.

I'm off to South East for two months in a week and I happen to be headed to a major hot spot for it in my travels. That and Malaria, Japanese Encephalitis, Typhoid and a myriad of others.

Hell no, I've already had swine flu and I'm just peachy.

I am not going to get the vaccine because I have never gotten a flu vaccine in my life. That, and the fact that the vaccine also has mercury in it. I understand that you need the mercury in it for it to stay in your system and actually work, but I just can't see myself getting the vaccine.
I think this swine flu is just ludicrous because it is more likely that one would die due to the regular seasonal flu than the H1N1. Then again, if only one in one hundred cases are serious and say one million people get it, that's still ten thousand people getting a serious case. I really don't know what to think of it yet, but I know I can't bring myself to get the vaccine. For now, I think people are just freaking out over nothing.

I got on my vaccine Dec. 4th. 4 me, no sweat, my doctor used so thin a needle, very thin. Didn't feel a thing. My Dog's clawing on me leaves more impression in pain and skin damage.

Nope. My family always gets the flu after being vaccinated. I have never had the vaccine and don't plan on it.

No, I'm not getting the vaccine. Not because I think I'm too healthy for it or because I got scared into not taking it by propaganda campaigns... I'm not taking it because I smoke.

I smoke unfiltered, hand-rolled, non-menthol cigarettes... Somewhere in the area of 2 an hour, depending on how busy my hands or mouth is. I have had this habit for at least 5-7 years. Before that, I smoked everything from marlboro's to kool's, all lengths and strengths.

How does this matter to this thread? To prove every body is different.

I can still sprint [I was never a distance runner]. I can still perform laborious chores; such as moving funiture, construction projects, yard work, etc..

I don't have what would be called a smoker's cough, or even a smoker's wheeze for that matter. I am never more winded then any of my friends that I play softball with.

My point is, this same health concern would destroy or kill others, maybe even some of you who posted in this thread... But I'm fine.

The same could be said for any type of drug, from sugar to vaccines to heroine... Every body is different and every body will have a different reaction to anything it takes in.

H1N1 vaccine? Some will live, some will die. Some will get sick anyway, some will not get sick at all...

But, in the end, it always was and will always be your choice alone to put anything into your body. Just be ready to accept whatever consequences may be associated with your choice.

No, The government and media really hyped everything up to sound horrible when the regular flu kills way more people then H1N1. I would rather get the actual illness for true immunity anyways. Most people are way over medicated and over vaccinated. I can see Polio, small pox and similar illnesses that kill so many but things that just make people good and sick for a week is a bit much. I can see trying to get people who will die if they get any kind of flu but to try and push it on everyone is a bit much.
