I just saw it today.
I liked it alot and I really didn't think I would. Mostly because all the hyped up things tend to be bad for some reason.

I don't really care about the "message" nor do I look for it, I just like to see a movie with a decent story, cool effects, and somewhere in it, the movie's "dinosaur" and it's "robot."
Which is a figure of speech I use for the big animal in a movie, and the big ally or enemy in a movie.
As far as Star Trek however, do you mean the new one? For I disliked that one...alot actually....

I do like Avatar more than the new Star Trek but its wayy over exagerated. I like Avatar, but it is really over rated. These are the movies that I do like better than Avatar:

Transformers ROTF, Transformers (2007), Iron Man, Iron Man 2, Sherlock Holmes (the new one.), and thats just a start.

There are way better movies out there than Avatar. Its so overrated that its actually annoying me to hell now. Really! Its not that great!

While I must agree, there are better movies, and it IS overrated, I also don't think it's as bad as the people who disliked it say.

I didn't mind the message (be in tune with, and take care of nature), but I didn't like how it was delivered. (At the expense of the military. While it's true that some military maneuvers were deadly, not all are. Nor are the people behind them.)

I felt that the delivery was heavy handed, and shoved right down your throat.

It's amazing to me that technology and all things unnatural is what helped make Cameron's career, and now he preaches against it.

Again, I must say, other than the visuals, the story just falls flat. Not to mention, it's just boring as can be. I mean, it was doze worthy.

And thankfully the first time I watched it was on dvd and I was able to pause it and go for a walk to wake up. If i'd watched it in a theatre I definitely would have nodded off.

I am not a huge Star Trek fan... thought the start of the Star Trek movie was a little like mixing a high school sitcom with Star Trek... but it was easily better than Avatar. Avatar wasn't even that visually impressive. Between the Unobtainium and the rehashed plot I had to hold my own puke in to keep peace with my girlfriend.

I didn't see the whole Avatar movie, but what I did see, the special effects didn't fool me. I could see the slight 'fakeness' to the Pandora aliens' skins and that the way they moved was a little 'off.'

I have no interest to see this movie, and I might not see it for a long time.

LOL! Now that I watch the first 07 Transformers movie, thats what it feels like. A teen sitcom with giant robots randomly appearing in the middle of the movee. And Avatar's effects whern't that good. ROTF's CG was better.

The real question here is Green chicks or blue cat chicks. You know what I mean. I'd have me a little Cyan action going on if you catch my drift.

Avatar. Effects are good! story sucks. I think Titanic waaaaaaaay better! And not just because of Kate Winslet. I think it had better story, more engaging characters, it was funnier, and there was no cliche genera guy in it.

As for Star Trek...ugh.

As a film its okay I mean I enjoyed the action, story & effects.

However the devil in this film was in the details.
-Why did everywhere on the Enterprise look brand new except the engine room which looked like it was a set from the Titanic engine room?
-Why the hell did every station have these pointless bright lights?
-The bridge cracked? You know what if they didn't have force fields they should have been dead.
-The entire Spock was compromised thing...seems like any yahoo who feels like pissing the commanding officer of can claim this.
-Chain of command...sorry when you leave an officer in charge that does not make him automatically the Captain...he's simply the commanding officer...similarly I know there are field promotions but to go from cadet on the verge of explusion to Captain of the flag ship is just flat out stupid.
-Spock's treatment of Kirk as a prisoner...dude it was a death sentence.
-Kirks plan...I might point out Spock was doing what he thought was the best course of action as commanding officer...right or wrong the choice was his not his crews...its not a democracy its a starship granted officers are encouraged to voice options and opinions but the commanding officer makes the final decison. Also Kirks plan does not work until he meets Old Spock and gains the ability to Transport at warp...had Spock had that knowledge he might likely have made the same descision.

I saw Avatar in a good theater, and effects were great... and that was it. As soon as the credits started to roll in I thought to myself, "Fern Gully 2 is gonna be a major success. Especially the way they tied in the smufs, and the whole big business is bad theme."

I think the only real reason why people enjoyed it was the way it really took advantage of the 3d Effects and that's pretty much what it focused on the most, but not in a majorly creative way. I mean it's creative now, because the technology just came out, but in the sense that they were the first to do old stuff with new tech (remember how Computer Graphics popped up?). In the future though, I don't think it will hold up all that well, once we see a much more creative director approach the technology. Don't get me wrong, Cameron can be creative, but this felt like a very restrictive film for him. I assuming the whole big business is bad theme is his only creative message in the film that he got in.

As for Star Trek 11: Good trek doesn't always have to have a moral message. If that was the case, what was the message behind Trouble with Tribbles, Nake Now, and The DS9 ep where they go back in time and meet Kirk? Sometimes the trek is just about having a good adventure.

Well thanks for the info, but I've seen a few episodes and it reminds me to much of Anime so I'll pass just the same.

Oddly enough I just saw the Advatar movie last night for the first time. I was too cheap to see it in theathres. far too cheap to buy/rent the DVD. I waited for the avatar movie to show up for free on my premium cable plan.

I really loved this avatar movie. thr story & dialogue was much more interesting than any micheal bay live action TF movie could dream of being. the avatar story had a way of wanting me to see more & get interested by it. without getting disgusted over silly potty humor that micheal bay puts in the TF movies.

I thought all the CGI was beautiful & well beyond it's time.

I really thought the female blue main female was beautiful.

this movie had actual talented actors/actresses in it. compared the shia/megan who ain't got no talent.

that scully actor did a amazing job in acting. he's really talented.

all the animals on the planet looked very creative,beautiful & they looked amazing in CGI.

The movie had sagourni weaver,she's a legend. she has talent. her talent showed in this avatar movie.

nothing really bad to say about this movie. it was pure awesome.

I don't care for those batman movies. I watched them all. I only thought the first batman movie was decent.

I wasn't a fan of the first ironhide movie. It didn't have enough heart like the spiderman movies did. the violence & crazyness were over the top. the plot didn't draw me in & make me interested while watching it. the story was kinda choppy like TF2,as it kept moving locations & got me a bit dizzy.
