Beast Wars never fails to amaze me.

Discuss anything about the Transformers cartoons and comics! You can discuss anything from G1 to Cybertron as well as the comics from Marvel, Dreamwave, IDW and more!

Beast Wars never fails to amaze me.

I've tried to watch other shows I enjoyed as a kid with a now "adult" mind set and I could barely sit through them.

Rewatching the series and it still blows me away how awesome the storylines are and how intellgently they were presented. So many adult oriented issues (like "drug" addiction and suicide) presented in such a way as to enlighten and inspire not frighten or preach. Granted I was in my early twenty's when I watched it the first time, but it still holds up.

Episodes like Code of Hero and Transmutate have to be some of the best "kids" television to ever air. I know, I know "TRUCK NOT MUNKEY", but if you've never actually sat down and watched through it you're missing out.

Damn straight. I'm still making it my prerogative and goal in life to tie Down_shift to a chair and make him watch the whole series. Best animated (CGI is animated) program I've ever watched. Only Bruce Timm's DC Superhero shows and Avatar: The Last Airbender come close.

I couldn't agree more, I'd rank those both up there with BW.

OT: Avatar better get season three in gear ASAP.

Couldn't agree more. The Beast era was one of the best era's (yes I'm including Beast Machines, I liked it).

Heck in that era, CGI shows were actually really good. We had Reboot, Shadow Raiders, and many others that both looked good and were good.

Now, except for maybe a few exceptions, CGI shows are crap.

Beast Wars is widely considered (at least, by my peers, outside of this community) as the best Transformers series to date. Excellent writing, surpassing anything from any other Transformers related 'toon.

Should be September. October at the latest. Season 2 boxset gets released on September 11th to help garner interest again.

Agreed, Beast Wars is brilliant, and an amazing accomplishment in TV animation. A shame it'll probably never be surpassed by another TF show.

BW is so cool and that Truck not monky makes no sense. I mean it's not Prime but Primal.
I love the animation.
But one of the best animated showes is GANTZ, just cos you forgot to list that.
So it's not the German dubing that takes long with Avatar, intersting.

Code of Hero was, IMO the best BW episode ever! Last year at Iaconone, Scott McNeil did live commentary for it, and he stopped halfway though to actually watch it. I think he was crying along with the rest of us.

I for one hope they release a box set complete of Beast Wars, like the whole set being released for G-01 from Madman. that would be cool, in one big box.. excluding Beast Machines!!! I did not like the weird surreal story line about organics versus machine technology, ect.. but your right about one thing, those shows had great CGI and better situations then most shows of transformers have had to date.

Why people do not give this show a chance is beyond me. The characters are dynamic, there's drama and action and humor, a good plot, and it's all carried out quite well. CGI is used PERFECTLY. Beast Wars is well-made and well-thought out, so why are there so many haters?

Oh, yeah. Also agreed - Beast Wars is definitely the best TF series there's been, followed closely by BM.
Certainly BW had its flaws, particularly in the beginning, but once Bob and Larry started deliberately making it a TF show, it kicked arse.
I love the G1 toon for what it is, but what it is is mostly a giggle for when your brain's turned off - I watched one of the DVDs yesterday, and me and the missus were both snarking furiously!
Meanwhile BW had intelligent writing, engaging characters and decent animation, which is pretty much everything you need.

Beast Machines I liked in a whole different way. Sure, I had the same issues as a lot of people regarding the 'returning' of Cybertron to the organic, and with the unrealistic 'shapeshifting' transformations (which of course, G1 was also guilty of), but the core tenets of the series, where a small band of heroes have to take on virtually an entire planet of foes - now that's impossible odds, and that's what makes for a great story. I loved the darkness of the series, too. I really reeled at the Rhinox/Tankor arc; not just because it was revealed that Tankor was Rhinox - but that Rhinox, probably the most loyal Maximal of the bunch - had rebelled of his own free will! That knocked me for six, I can tell you.

I only hope that some day soon we get a new series with that quality of writing. Not that I'm holding my breath, or anything...

Oh please no I just bought all the individual ones
I got seasons 1 & 2 of Beast Wars not too long ago. oh I missed my Beast Wars so. I loved Beast Wars so much when I was a child (physically :P).
I must agree that Code of Hero and Transmutate were stellar episodes. The last few episodes really blew mind too!

It is far and away the best written Transformers (if not childrens) show that I have ever seen. The quality in animation is consistent, there is not a single episode that drops the bar. The Writers made the correct choice in keeping the crews to half a dozen or so a side, allows much more character development, and character driven stories.

A whole series boxset isnt really needed, the Madman editions with all their extras are perfect enough.

That's really cool. I wish I could have went to that. Speaking of which, were you able to get the Golden discs? Some site had them for sale the day after for con price, meanwhile prices on ebay were insane. I was afraid the store wasn't going to honor the sale and say they were sold out. Sure enough I got them a few days later..ANYWAY, no one ever talks about them. They have to be the best con exclusive idea to date. I love 'em.

TheMuffin: Cool, thanks. I had kinda given up hope for it.

Ramrider: I love BM as well. Very dark. Even more adult than BW.

Beast Wars was right on the money from start to finish. I used to be in the Animation biz in Vancouver, and while I never worked on Beast Wars/ Beasties the community was pretty small and it was well known that A-LOT of love went into making that series. It still really shows to this day.

It good to see that there are ppl that consider this the best TF series out there. This show really helped get me back into TF and if not for Beast Wars we would be talking anything TF fore it was respossible for bringing TF back.

Sadly I think this will be the best series in TF history. I say sadly because it doesn't look like that will be changing anytime soon.

Oh and yeah they need to bring Avatar back soon. I am getting restless waiting for Book 3.

I wish I could have bought the disks, but we were on a tight budget, so I only took money out to buy G1/G2 toys, even though my finance' did buy me a MISB MW Soundwave.

Well, the reasons go a little deeper than that. Originally, Primal was suppose to be Prime but with a new Gorilla body, which offset a great number of TF fans (hence the "Truck not Monkey" stuff). When they were putting the show together, they didn't want to be tied down to what had gone on before so they set up the show to be pretty ambiguous. Clearly making Primal and Megatron seperate from their original counterparts. It wasn't until the fan community started to rally around the show, thanks in large part due to the internet, that the producers decided to go ahead and tie it in to the original show.

My all time favorite episodes include: Other Voices: Parts 1 and 2, Code of Hero, The Agenda: Part 1-3, Nemesis: Parts 1 and 2.

In the Japanese show, weren't Prime and Megatron supposed to be the g1 characters? I get confused with it comes to the Japanese stuff.

I don't think so, but I'm not 100% sure about that since I've never seen the Japanese dubs. I know that they gave most of the characters individual quarks, like Megatron would scream like a little girl whenever a firefight started.
