Appart the "wings" that are out of place, he look pretty good.
However, I cannot see him as a true Classic Megs so that's why I prefer the original Nerf gun version.
This is a great mold to own so what color one's get is one's personal preferences.

I just use Classics Megatron as my Metroplex, and if I had United Megs I'd probably make either him or Henkei Megatron the Straxus clone, not sure.

Sure, Hegemon IS the perfect Megs in my own opinion. Unfortunately, it's 3rd party so he dont count.

Even though I responded previously, lemme tell you who is my favorite as for now.
That's a toughie, but I must confirm that my number one favorite Megs from the last 5 years is deluxe FE Prime Megatron. Sure, he's smaller, but the paint job is perfect, is fun to transform, and is perfect looking in both modes.
He's a must own.

The first Voyager class Classics 2.0 Megatron hands down - admittedly he's a more futuristic take on things, but he's a great homage to the original - alternately there's the Henkei version if you want more G1 accurate colours.

One thing though - I can understand excluding 3rd party stuff as they're blatantly illegal IP thefts, but I'm not getting the reasoning for excluding MP Megatron.

Perhaps to level out the playing field? I remember a similar thread excluding MP's. When was it released anyway? Then again, MP05 wasnt the cat's meow.

That's just it, being an official HasTak release, excluding it seems pointless - in the same way I've heard such ridiculous claims as (everything from the Pretenders and onwards isn't G1). Even if it wins out, there's still no reason to exclude it because the second best figure in these threads usually surfaces anyway (heck, some people here even posted their third choice). However even more to the point, it's problematic and received mixed reviews from fans, so it was never going to get a clean sweep anyway.

Personally I'd exclude both MP Megatron and Alternity Megatron because both fall in a different category. They're not "toys" in the traditional sense, but more like expensive Collector's Items that are designed with other priorities. >:oP

Back on topic, Henkei Megatron gets my vote because he's unique in this day and age in being a gun (albeit based on Nerf). Same goes for RtS Legends Megatron (despite the orange barrel). Animated Megatron is also a strong contender.

I agree. I cant remember if this or the best Soundwave in the last 5 years" was posted first, but that one excluded the MP also. So what if it wins? Doesn't change individuals preference on what they believe is their "best of".
Im just waiting for the "best OP in the last 5 years that excludes MP's and anything with red and blue"

Except that this is a bit of a strawman. Certainly they're marketed at adult collectors, but unlike statues, these are very much still toys.

Case in point, the Hot Toys 1989 Batmobile that I have on preorder [don't hate me cause I'm getting it; hate me because you're not :P ]. Yes there is no way this is marketted to any kind of kid except for the ultra rich, but at the end of the day, it's still ultimately a toy car and a toy car for an action figure/doll at that. Toys stopped being "child's playthings" at least as early as the moment the first Star Wars fans became adults and Star Wars figures became things which adults also collected [heck you could even go back further in time to Barbie fans for that matter] and were therefore also marketed to adults, even if indirectly. Any argument to the contrary is denying reality.

They're all ultimately toys.
A $20 pair of shoes and a $300 pair do the same thing. I dont keep the more expensive pair in a box and stare at it on my shelf. This whole notion of mass-produced toys being collectibles is bullshit.

You started out with an accurate argument here that quickly descended into a complete prima facie which was the equivalent of saying in car terms "The notion of a mass produced Bentley, Lamborgini, Ferrari, BMW, Rolls Royce or Mercedes Benz being a luxury car is complete bullshit."

The fact is that there are are so many factors you have disregarded here which really do need to be considered. What kind of income level is being marketed to (eg is it a $5 price point or a $700 price point eg Hot Wheels Vehicles vs Hot Toys vehicles)? What kind of R&D Budget is there? What will the play pattern be?

The fact is that a child's toy will generally have less features and be built with durability and safety more in mind, where an adult collectable will can afford to have more delicate parts and less safe parts (eg hard sharp plastic pieces as opposed to blunt pvc) therefore more intricacy and features to the designs.

Then you have a supply and demand issue where things cross over. Something can start out as a children's toy but after the primary market evaporates, their value increases, placing it outside of the range of the children's toy market and into the price range of the adult collector.

In short your argument stopped being valid when those of us who started out as Star Wars and 80s toy collectors as children grew up and continued collecting them as adults and changed the entire toy marketplace and industry forever as a result.

To me, they'll always be toys. They're Transformers. You're supposed to play with them! I just feel some of us put too much emphasis on the wrong things. Hence the BS comment (dont get me started on AFA or these exclusives). Just enjoy them for what they are.
I wouldn't classify them as "collectibles". Some do, i don't. Each to their own.
Anyway, thats my 2 cents.

I don't consider Hegemon the ultimate Megatron but he's a great representation of the G1. I would have picked one up long ago but since the release MP-10 I still feel something on the horizon for Megs to counter that...I know it's crazy. 8-}

As far as Transformers go being just toys I dissagree. Like someone stated before "it's all in the eye of the beholder"...and "to each his/her own". For example Diney OP, Takara Predaking reissue (10 years ago- ), and Hasbro MP-10 OP are all MISP. I don't have doubles and I don't plan getting any but to me they will be awesome display pieces and that's it. If someone feels it's just a toy and should be played with as such fine for that person. I on the other hand feel certain TF's can be appreciated just as much on display like art.

Back to the subject :P , I cannot decide which is best but they are all equal in greatness IMO...WFC (Takara), United (Henkei repaint), AM Darkest Megatron. I gotta insist on adding Cybertron leader class Galvatron aka Megatron. :VEHI:
