Postby the purifyer » Fri Jun 23, 2006 6:53 pm

That's right I'm gonna give it a go! I can't go on without one so yeah I'll just make it...Hopefully this will be my first of many (ok not many but i couldnt think of anything better to put there) Binaltech kitbashes based on G1 characters with more accurate alt modes (accurate as in look and possibly maufacturer) ok then... tips are highly appreciated as this is my first EXTREME!!!! kitbash.

All i have done so far is the gun which is bluetacked together right now. and yes that is smokescreen, smokescreen will be his innards :P

p.s. special shout out to sculpt-bot for the head and the rest of the heads not pictured thanks so much mate!

I think once it has arms the shoulders will fill it out more and make the head look smaller!

it looks ginormous but I am pretty sure it is to scale...well it is one of sculpt bots and i havent cut up the beetle yet  (note 2 beetle one proto and one for final. the one seen is the proto btw). And I need something to cut the metal I'm thinking of getting a dremel, just wondering is there a specific type for that kinda stuff and also what blades to use too. thanks.

Any dremel tool should due the job! You need to get cut off disks and the post they attach to (If you get one with assorted bits included they should be in there!) Keep in mind that you need to go slow and steady and wear a dust mask & goggles. Breath to much of that and you won't be kitbashing for long. Also keep in mind that the cut off disks are about a .25 mill and the heavy duty ones are about .5 mill so you need to take into consideration the loss of material.

Hope this helps you out!

Almost forgot, Be sure the piece is securely held in place with a vice or something stable cause if the bit catches, you don't want a yellow bullet shooting someone walking buy your house (or mabye you do, I shouldn't assume lol).

I have a shed to do this in too so i dont blow up the house :P

A little too busy today with other projects (birthday present for a friend and macross plus model :P ) to try it out but i did manage to try out my new spray paints and masking tape by painting the head. I'll probably have time to take pictures tomorrow morning though.

yeah those shoulders will be a dilly of a pickle :P what im thinking of right no is maybe rigging up a small hinge joint to the original smokescreen arm joint just inside the car underneath the hole for the wheel...if that makes sense... :P ill post pictures when i get the chance.

I think Piranacon is doing a Cliffjumper that looks similar to what you guys got going there, and it looked like he had figured out the arm TF.

Glad to see you're putting the heads to use man. Looking forward to your projects with them. BB is looking good. Really like the Goldbug too Bumblebee1251!

yeah P, used magnets.
not a bad idea...but not very mechanical in nature either.
i was hoping for a hinge/swivel like on the BT preview. but i
haven't been able to pull it off.
sooooooo I guess P's idea is still the best one runnin'

i only switched to the earth magnets because they used 1mm of space on ether side of the wheel arch, there isnt much room for the BT design way next to the bumper
although i did it with lego technic pieces first and it worked out very well

at the bottom of this page there is the rest of the pics from the first - but that one broke

this is the magnets one, you can see with the less space it was much neater - this one has been sitting in a box under my bed for a few months now though lol
