Canon, in the context of a fictional universe, comprises those novels, stories, films, etc., that are considered to be genuine or officially sanctioned, and those events, characters, settings, etc., that are considered to have existence within the fictional universe. In order for a setting to appear cohesive, especially in fictions that contain multiple parts, both creators and audiences sometimes find it useful to define what has and has not "actually happened" in that universe.

Material that is considered canon usually comes from the original source or author of the fictional universe, while spin-offs and adaptations to other media are more likely to be non-canon and fan fiction is almost always non-canon.

basically any official character, like optimus prime, is canon, but Evolution Prime isn't.

giving a canon away, is when one person changes who is using a canon name gives it up so that another can use it instead.

A canon name is an official Transformer name, like Megatron, Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, etc.

When people "give their canons away", they're more than likely getting rid of the name to make room for a new character; freeing it up and allowing another player to come along and use it for themselves.

Meh, I'm not using, nor do I plan to use, a canon name anytime soon. However I want three names for my Norse Gods that are being used at the moment, and I think the guys that have them not only don't visit the forums, but are possibly inactive altogether.

So my point is, how do you get names from them in that circumstance?

Thanks for that, you're right (of course), but I was only able to bag two names, seems whoever has the last name activated it recently, and because there's no logs, I don't know how long I'll have to wait.

Damn that sucks, guess I'll have to keep stalking them though.

Nah, I just changed three of my team already (Vali, Var and Vor (he he, all V's) to Sol, Mani and Thor (somehow!). They might be minicons though (depending what happens with minis yet).
