Energon had re-discovered the combiners, and a lot of G1 characters (Omega Supreme, Springer, Rodimus, Shockwave, Scorponok...) and the designs were generally better (Tidal Wave looks awesome, just as his reincarnation (I don't remember the name)) still, it had Kicker and Ironhide to ruin the show.
I agree about the toys, Mega Octane was one of my favorites.
But yeah, totally annoying characters...
