The Laurentian Abyss is just the drop off from the North American continental shelf to the bottom of the Atlantic which is only 4,665 Meters (15,305.11 feet)deep.

But that would cost some $100,000 more in fuel price to bring the fallen Transformers that far.

This can cause a chain reaction to the skyrocketing crude oil price!

Why do I get the feeling that this oversight just might play a part in the sequel?

I have a feeling it will also. For one the pressures down there wouldnt harm an advanced metal race like the decepticons. And lets face it how can you have a TF movie without Megatron?

It's deliberate. The supposed suspense was too shallow.
