Transformers fan n00b overhere. 1st Post!! The new movies really made interested in Transformers in general. Brings me back to my Beast Wars days. Now I've seen the 1986 movie as well, and some G1 episodes. Awesome stuff!! What do people think about the live action films? Don't they seem kind off more adult than the old TV shows?

My parents would've certainly not let me watch this movies at the age when I used to watch Beast Wars.

Neither. I prefer the old Marvel UK comics. Nothing lives up to those.

apples and oranges...

tv series vs big screen movie
cartoon vs live action
1980s vs 2007+
aimed at children (technically rated g) vs aimed at teenagers to adult (pg)

too different to compare
i like both for tottally different reasons except for the toys...

Same here, except I grew up on the US Marvel comics mainly. I like the G1 show, and I liked the 2007 movie as well.

Primal_sigma, I'm just like you. I know that i liked it as a kid, back in the early nineties, but i don't remember much. The movies really restarted my liking for them. I was a major beast wars fan, and i haven't seen much of the G1 episodes, although i watch what i can. But the movies i think is my favorite version. Before i get attacked, its not cause of the "story lines" or character development, or questionable robot/human stereotypes. Its because of the realism. To be able to see a realistic, live-action movie about alien robots who can disguise themselves as various vehicles from our world, and "transform" into mostly humanoid characters is amazing. With such realistic special effects, and dead on choreography/body language, its truly a sight to behold. Say what you want about the storyline and its not so necessary relation to the original version, but it makes a damn good action/adventure movie to satisfy our inner-child. As a kid, I'd watch all these cartoons and cgi shows, and i would wonder how it would look in real life. Well, now i know. Live-action all the way. lolz

Well, this is almost like comparing two uncomparable things.

They both have their pluses and sides, that the other doesn't have.

But basically, I like 'em both.

I can't decide. I know that live action wise, I LOVE the look of the mechs--complicated and gorgeous stuff. I'm just consistently disappointed (cue someone hitting me with The Facts about how expensive good CGI is and how that makes my point invalid, cue me nodding patiently and saying it anyway :roll:

) at how little actual screentime/character development they get, in favor of idiot humans I could not possibly care less about if I hurt myself trying.

The animated shows, ANY of them, allow more character development and personality, but, wow, those G1 animation errors can be brain breaking and to be honest, Beast Wars's look was always a bit...ngggheeeh to me.

HK, wants it both: pretty bots with lots of character development. /greedy

Yes, that's how I would put it. I like 'em both, but it's like comparing apples and oranges.

The cartoons are great for character development, and the movies are great for explosions. Simplicity itself. Thouhg it depends on the cartoon. The Bayverse ranks above Energon, Cybertron, and G1 Season 3 for me.

If I had a choice between watching 2.5 hours of G1, and either one of the movies, I'd chose the movies. If I had to chose 2.5 hours of Animated or either of the movies, I'd go with Animated.

All Tf movies/series have their ups and downs,so I'll list them.
Movies = superior action, memorable fights, GREAT special effects, lovable characters (hit or miss for some of you), and surprisingly interesting human story (watch the hate comments fly at me)
The old 80's cartoon/beast era cartoons = regarding the g1 cartoon, silly/campy but funny humor and characters, large amount of robots with action in every ep., and lovable characters (hit or miss for me). now for the Beast era, GREAT stories, great characters, and great animation for its time.
So, I guess the older cartoons, but barely.

I like both a lot, but if I had to pick I would say G1 cartoon. Mostly because of the old school feel of it.

I do enjoy actually seeing transformers in real life more just because there real but at the same time they are so detailed and move so fast it gets hard to watch fight scenes sometimes. It feels like quick fight scenes are sometime like a blurry fight because of the cgi. But I do think the old shows has much better plot and character development that the newer movies lacked.
