I started... and well lets just say I didn't expect it to be so easy and cheap!
I haven't painted since I was a kid and lets just say that was years ago~
It does take time however, so if you are looking for a hobby this might be it!
The Tamiya Acrylics paints costs $2 a bottle in my area, they work very well!

I agree! It is a lot of fun to repaint these guys. Kinda opens up a whole new side to collecting TFs. The only problem being that I now want to buy doubles of everything, one to paint and one to keep original. I'll be posting my first repaint in the kitbashing forum real soon.

Yeah, ever since I saw the pics of one you guys' blackwashed Rescue Ratchet, it's been on my mind an awful lot.

Doesn't help that I just bought Rescue Ratchet this week.

Hey that does look very nice, good job!

I'm planning exactly the same, to paint the silver parts. But I do have a question, did you have to take the figure apart and paint the parts separately or did you just painted it really carefully as a whole?

so the only actual paint you need are those tamiya acrylics? also before repainting, do you have to remove all the old paint first and do you spary it on or paint? sorry for the questions, i'm planning on doing my first repaint soon and want to make sure of everything.

Feel free to ask more questions :)
Mpchi and Jin helped me a lot when I first started with mine!

I didn't take the toy apart for those 3.
I used Tamiya Acrylics straight on, didn't use spray paint.
I didn't need to remove old paint or even put on a base-coat.
I applied directly, I usually let one coat dry, then coat again to make sure it stays :)
You don't even need to purchase thinner, I just used water.

Hope this helps, like I said... the material is cheap :P

For those three, I painted as a whole!
I plan on taking Leader Prime apart and spraypainting it to G1 colors~

That was real cool, and I love looking at customs.

When I first started collecting I didn't care about slapping a coat of paint on my bots! But as my collection began to grow, and I saw the potential value of it, I pretty much stopped.

I often have the Idea of revamping alot of bots, but still it's the whole collection deal, and partial lack of talent(bots are alot differnt than paper or canvase) that stops me.

I normaly buy 2 of all the intresting guys, 1 sealed, one for fun, and in the rare case like Classics megs where I can see the benifits of some enamils, well, I can't bring myself to do it to the open one, and my wallet rarely allows me a third.

Believe me, as someone with absolutly no intent of selling his collection, it's a conundrum, to which my only answer is, I still chance pose and basicly play with these, I don't want to see that work mared.

Still, 2 more RG MeanTimes will be mine so I can follow Jin's lead and make my own working version. I may imply my own knowledge of basic mechanics and make a practical adult sized changing band to go with it!

But in short, I'm torn between want, mint, and finance

Oh randome no TF figures are sheep for whatever slaughter I crave. More Gundams have died at my hands than...

The TFs, Voltrons, and somehow Spider-Men, have become untouchable though.

Still it was cool some time ago a friend of mine got me some comic character called The Mage.

Yo, this guy is me down pat! He came with the same color trench coat I wear, same pulled back hair, T-Shirt, kicks, plane pants, beard...

The only real difference was the crystal baseball bat. So I outfitted him with a coffee cup(painted to match my own) and a bottle for spiking said devil's brew.

I also updated his lightning bolt T-Shirt with a end of one of my only ones so now he's sporting a skull. A spawn skull for the belt buckel, painted his kaki's to jeans, added some wallet chains, and bang, my own Liege Evilmus figure!

I've tweeked alot of other figures into my own origional ideas, but thats the one I'm realy most proud of!

Man Jazz looks so much better when shiny. I'm going to crack open the paints I bought and at least start repainting the metal stuff, that should at least get my procrastinating a$$ in gear with it!

I don't plan on repainting anything myself, but I have the same problem... I want to buy everything in doubles... one to open up and transform, and one to keep MISB.

Your Jazz is pretty cool, I 'knew' he'd look better like that! I actually bought a few jars of the same paint but I'm too chicken to actually start repainting for now since I'd probably buy an extra toy before I do anyway. :(

BTW did you use Chrome Silver? Since there's also Titanium Silver, and the Gun Metal colour too.

The Megatron was done in Titanium Silver.

The Jazz was done in Gun Metal.

The grills on Jazz were done with Chrome Silver.

Chrome silver is TOO CLEAN to use on the entire toy...

It would look like it came out of a factory, if you know what I mean~

The mug is fully painted now, and the rest of him is all done up like me on a regular day.

I'll bring my camera home from work on Monday and give an updated pic.

Also, with only parts surounding him, I have Moltar from Space Ghost Coast to Coast as my bathroom's janitor. The tiny mop and broom where a bitch to find :D
