Faction Face

There is more to Transformers than movies, cartoons, comics and toys. Discuss anything else Transformers here.

Faction Face

Postby Saber Prime » Fri Jun 08, 2007 12:58 am

Kind of a weird topic but here goes.

You know how the faction symbols all look like faces (with the exceptions of Vehicons and Mini-cons) and some characters actully look like said faces. (Soundwave's uncany resembalance to the Decepticon logo for example)

Well I was thinking, wouldn't it make more sence if the logos actully looked like the leaders of that group? If that was the case than Soundwave would be the leader of the Decepticons and Vector Prime the leader of the Autobots. Cheetor would be the Maximal leader and *gasp* Waspinator would be the Predacon leader.

Anyway I was thinking it'd be a fun idea to redesign the faction symbols so they actully resemble the faction leaders. Just as an example that face that use to be on allspark's web site would be a good Autobot symbol because it actully looks like Optimus Prime.

If i am not mistaken Soundwave was originaly cast as the con leader at some point-prob due to the fact that he has an army in his chest.
"Dammit-You mean he's not dead???" Thats right! Im back and Im leading my Army of Misfits up from the ashes!!!!!!!

The G1 symbols were designed after the leader faceplates. Well, I know this to be true for the Autobots. I never paid close enough attention to the Decepticon symbol. Could look into it though.

The original Autobot symbol was based on Prowl's face. Take a look at it and then compare it to the symbol. Also the G2 Autobot symbol is based loosely on Optimus Prime.

Here's something to consider:

The Last Autobot's face is the logo of the Autobots.

Liege Maximo's chest looks kinda like the Predacon symbol.

Soundwave was meant to be leader right up untill the very last minute, thats why the 'con logo is his face. As for the Autobot logo, I still see Prowl though the forhead isn't quight right. It can't have originally been based on the last Autobots face as he wasn't created until the end of the marvel comic.

P.S. nice one OptimusPrive it's a good resemblance.

Nope. That's an old tale someone started, but was never true. Soundwave was NEVER intended to be the leader of the Decepticons (not counting UK comics). :CON: was based on his face and :BOT: was based on the face of Bluestreak/Prowl. The Optimus Prime and Megatron chracters were the first profiles to be written and were meant to be the leaders of the factions from the start.

The symbols were created from the idea that Transformers were concepts of the things around them. Since robot faces are not around much in everyday 80's life, Griffin-Bacal used the two faces for the factions. The Transformers Font-type for instance was based on the 70's/80's logo of DAF trucks.

I like the images but might I sugest changing them a bit. Especially in the case of Megatron so the "helmet" part isn't quite so obvious.

Back to the whole Prowl thing I still see no resembalance what so even. Not just the forhead but the entire face looks completly wrong to me.

Soundwave is a little funky with the Decepticon symbol. Soundwave's mouth plate isn't an exact match to the Decepticon face. Other than that small difference they even have the same spiked helmet.

Saying Prowl looks like the Autobot symbol, well anyone with a face (meaning anyone without a mouth gaurd) could be the Autobot symbol.

Anyway I was thinking, what if the faces were like the first of their kind. Like maybe Soundwave or another Transformer made with the same blue prints was actully the first Decepticon built by the Quints.

Raymond you could do that same thing with any character that has a face, including Megatron, but the helmet details still don't match up.

... didn't you have this same argument about prowl's face and the autobot logo like a year ago, before the last server wipe/crash? I specifically remember you saying this exact stuff a year ago, and i still can not beleive you don't even see the resemblance.

plus, why the bloody hell would the symbol be based after vector prime? vector prime wasn't even thought of at the creation of the show let alone around the time of beast wars, and has only been around for a good 2-3 years now.

There was a simular argument where someone put the outline of G1 Megatron over the movie design. You might be thinking of that.

Woo there, I never said the Autobot logo was based off Vector Prime. I never even implied it. I mentioned his name as looking like the Autobot symbol but I was thinking exactly the opisite when I wrote that.

Vector Prime was based on the Autobot symbol not the other way around. And on that note Vector hasn't even been around for 2-3 years. Cybertron just came out last year in 2006 he's not even a year old yet.

Yeah, we have had this thread before with the prowl overlay and everything. Everything lines up between Prowl's head and the badge except for the upside down triangle.

On the other hand, Soundwave's head is identical in the forehead and more abstract towards the chin.

Maybe the designers of the badges just thought that those two had the coolest face designs. Or Soundwave the most evil and Prowl the most beneficent.

I don't remember ever having this topic before but that's not suprising. I have the worst memory on the face of the planet. It's verry possible we had this same discussion before I just don't remember it.

Back to the Autobot symbol. It seems more like the Autobot symbol was made to look like G1 Red Alert. Image And look at that even the helmet matches. (not exactly but close enough)

For that matter even Rumble/Frenzy look more like the Autobot symbol than Prowl. At least they have helments that more match the one on the Autobot logo and aren't just faces.

Howabout that! I never had any of the g1 cars, just Optimus and Blaster and a bunch of other randomish figures.

More than likely, the designers looked at a bunch of the toys and made a "nice face" and an "evil face"

I know how you feel.
All things considered, the Prowl/Autobot logo has striking resemblance, but the mouth messes it up. Makes no sense why it matches prowl so closely. When I was younger, I attempted drawing the "creators" of the factions with faces like the synbols, before I knew about Primus, Unicron, etc. Maybe I was on to something with the creator idea. Go figure.
