Galvatron not being Megatron from the future: like it or hate it

Discuss anything about the Transformers cartoons and comics! You can discuss anything from G1 to Cybertron as well as the comics from Marvel, Dreamwave, IDW and more!

I see what you mean, and i really agree. It's nice that idw is taking an approach where the introduction of one thing doesn't require the permanant removal of another. I mean, i also like that they've been killing off a few bots, but its not of apocalyptic proportions. But the idea of a really good meg/galvatron fight where it won't get cut short because 'it will screw up the cosmos', excites me more than you could believe. I loved the magnus/galvie fights, but megs wouldn't have held back, and it would be awesome.

I've always treated them as different characters in my own little universe I just imagined that Galvatron was a copy of Megatron and they slapped the mind in a new body. So he's just megatron 2.0 or whatever version...

It's more chaotic to follow the comics for me so I'm always confused as to who is who and how they got that way. I thought they were dead, dying, lost, changed, etc. So I just never let myself get too lost in the details.

If they're different, great, I can deal with that. If it's a Megatron in a new body like the cartoon movie, that's awesome too because I LOVED the way that character looked. I always hated when Megatron would shift from a giant robot to a human sized pistol. As Galvatron, he was more like an artilary cannon and not a hand gun so I liked the figure more and the character.

Again in my Universe they could NOT do the "mass shifting" size altering stuff so when Megatron is a gun he's a huge gun, Which I believe happened occasionally in the comics.

- edit: I forgot to say why. Because I never liked how to get Cyclonus, Scourge and the Sweeps, you have to loose Thundercracker, Skywarp and the Insecticons. To some people, those characters are their favorites. So I prefer them being separate entities so everyone is happy. Obviously, fans of the new characters love the fact that they used to be the old characters, but it I think that separate characters is the most healthy compromise.

Providing that the seekers and insecticons are some of my favorite deceipticons.... I agree with this 100%.

I also didn't find the 'replacements' very appealing, but part of that might just be initial bias.

Having them as seperate characters actually sounds like more fun, especially in the realm of a Galvatron/Megatron power struggle. Not that there isn't enough of that ALREADY in most decepticon ranks....

I love the fact they're separate characters. Even as a child I wanted Galvatron to be separate from Megatron, given Galvatron's bio and everything. When I played with my toys as a child, the only reason I pretended Galvatron was Megatron reformatted was because it conveniently explained away why I had no Megatron toy (I could never find it in England).

And that's my little anecdote!

Motto: "I GOT BETTER THINGS TO DO TONIGHT THAN DIE!"

'Sfunny, my boy theory was that maybe unicron based the megs-galvatron off the original and with their minds fighting for control could be why the megs-galvatron went insane by the end of U.S. too. :D :D
Me, I like the Unicron scanned Megatron while he was incapacitated, made a copy, enhanced it and got Galvatron. Yeah, I liked the Galvatron being an "evolved clone" theory too, that way when, cause you know he would, Megatron showed............ 8) 8)
Tron - FIGHT! 8)

Since this Galvy appears to be one of the crew of the first ark, maybe he is takin' orders from Nova Prime, maybe they're jacked up on something more powerful than ore 13 that gave megatro a temporary boost in power.

So, if Galvatron is separate, then what happened to Megatron? Galvatron took controll of Cybertron, while Megatron's on earth? I hope nothing happens to Megatron, after reading the IDW orgins, I'm bigger fan of old Megs.

I do too like Megatron separate from Galvatron, didn't like Galvatron in G1 cartoon crazy, I wanted Megatron to stay as...well Megatron, even if he's a different body and name. And well, I wanted Skywarp, Thundercracker and Starscream trio to come back, it felt empty without them....well to me as a child.

Megs is running around on Earth. Galvatron is running around doing something. By your comments, I take it you haven't read Galvatron's Spotlight (or Stormbringer). If you have, then you should know the answer to that Cybertron question.

I say 'finally'. I always went with the toy bios first foremost, so to me he was, as was said earlier, basically Ultra Magnus' opposite number, who like Starscream, wanted to take overall command for himself (though I got the impression he was far less patient...). Although since I've had the Galvatron = Megatron angle rammed down my throat for the last 20-odd years, I was actually just starting to come round to the idea.

Typical. :P
