Plenty of hod rodders and street racers have done exactly this. Its called a sleeper.

Actually, considering the Volt is a pure electric car, the claimed 0-60 times of 6 seconds are very possible. An electric motors toque output is generally 3 times of an equivalent gasoline engine. The Tesla roadster is a pure electric vehicle and has a 0-60 time of 3.5 seconds.
Although I'd agree with you that a corvette's drivetrain would not fit (at least not with major modifications) in the Volt, I'm not sure that was the question at hand.
I think what syphonn was getting at is that the alt mode is just "a disguise" for all intended purposes and As long as the autobots/decepticons are similarly matched, it doesn't matter what vehicles is scanned. If this was his original question, then I don't belive this to be true. I believe that alt modes are chosen based on size, weight, maneuverability, and speed. One who is big and lumbering (like Long Haul or bulkhead) are not going to scan a Mustang or Camaro. There going to scan an vehicle that suits them in both size and ability.
