Try heading back across the border with that one. Could you make it through? Most likely, but on the off chance that you don't...not worth it.

I know you're semi-kidding around, but it worries me...is anyone actually stupid enough to really pull this?

I certainly wouldn't want to be the one who tries...by no means.

are you kidding?? Border patrol coming from Canada to the US via driving across the border is sooo easy, they are looking for real guns, drugs and bombs or bombers, if they asked about a toy in a box, which would be odd, you could just open it up and show them the robot, since its being packaged that way, and then move on through the border.. its really that simple.. you know how I know?? My friend bought his reissue Megatron that way, becasue he was soo scared he would get an orange cap on it through the mail order from japan..I just sat on my duff and got mine from ordering online without the orange cap and didn't have to drive to Niagra falls to get it..

Wow i just thought of something, my friend is a freakin transformers fiend!!! Crazy...

Getting it across the border from Canada to the US in Bot mode wouldn't be hard at all, hell you could have it sitting in the passenger seat and I doubt they'd take a second look.

my sister is my only hope of getting here "legally"

legally- buying one in japan and then taking it aboard with her on the plane or in her luggage or having someone send one over to my house by air mail

Man, the US/Canadian border security must be really loose. Down around the Texas/Mexico border you can't get back in without a passport. That's right, a freaking passport is required to go to Mexico now!

Taking it on a plane or in luggage? Good luck with that! Seems a pretty risky prospect to me, even in bot mode. They'll want to inspect it when it goes through security.

It's not illegal to own. The damn thing isn't contraband.

One simply cannot resell the toy without an orange tip. If you are in possession of MP-05, it is permissible, but you may not resell him without a large, permanently affixed orange tip.

You can drive back and forth through the border with Megatron sitting on the dashboard and receive nothing other than odd looks.

Godzilla toys are imported and freely sold in the US on a regular basis, so such a thing strikes me as very, very odd. Especially given Toho's involvement with G-Fest where Godzilla toys are everywhere. I'm thinking you're confusing Godzilla imports with unlicensed figures, which are worlds apart.

Effective... already, I think, passports are now required for any destination outside of US territories, including the British Virgin Islands (not to be confused with the USVI), Mexico, and yes, Canada.

fully legal to bring them as luggage, though may not be wise as a carry on.

all the toy laws require is that us retailers can only sell toy guns with the orange tip to specification. Buying internationally and shipping in is kinda a grey area so likely retailers based abroad and ebay should not be a large issue.

Many don't want to take the chance so will go with a reliable option.

Honestly isn't going to be as big of a deal as its being made out to be.

So I guess what I'm wondering is... will the boxes be marked for Hasbro to know that the figure is tipped? Will they be opening each and everybox?

...Or have they specially trained dogs to sniff out the missing blaze orange? Cause I'd like to meet that dog.

That was me. :D But I was in Japan when that happened.

I was coming back from Thailand and stopped in Tokyo for a day before connecting with my flight to Nagoya.

While I was in Tokyo I stopped by a hobby shop and purchased Megatron. It didn't dawn on me that I was carrying a toy gun through airport security until I had passed through. I was just too excited to have purchased Megatron and simply thought of him as a toy robot. I guess the airport security realized the same thing because it never phased them.

Er, no, Hasbro does blow, post Beast Wars anyway, look at the rarity of end of the line figures for a great example, and ofcourse, Jetfire.

On subject, I bet it's A) They don't want anyone being an idiot with it and blame them for is being realistic and B) Capped one will be an Western release, in japanese packaging, with an inflated price.

I don't think Hasbro blows. They put out far more figures than does Takara. The rarity of end of the line figures isn't their fault really, that's a problem with the retailers for under-purchasing the end of the line figures. Jetfire is widely available. Again, this might be a problem with the retailers or with distribution. The stores here in Chicago have plenty of Jetfires which I have seen at many other stores during the past two months. It might have more to do with a problem with stores in your particular area.

So I assume the announcement of the next one will be a Megatron Perfect Edition, or whatever with the rifle attachments...

Passports are not required to Canada yet from the US (Birth certificates and driver's license are though), but in the near future (next year??) they will be, from what I have been reading. Can't say I have made a trip lately, but I am pretty sure there is not passport enforcement YET.

Just buy a capped version and paint it, or whatever...

Since HASBRO owns the rights to the Megatron name, character, and likenesses, I believe they do have the right to stop the 'mass' distribution of one where they do not deem it is okay.

Anyone else think this is for movie hype (joking)??? Even if it is not, it's going to do a nice job of advertising it.

Hasbro definitely blows over here in the UK, but we all already knew that right? ;)

For those who don't know why:

Take the classics Magnus and Skywarp 2-pac as an example.
US price = $20 IIRC.
UK price has been given as £30 which is about $60.

:?

I rest my case.

Guns don't kill people. Guns can't kill people.

I've never heard a single case of a gun killing anyone.

Now the prson HOLDING the gun, that's a different story.

I'm guessing customs will be tipped off about cases of modded and unmodded but the question is how reliable they will be to catch them.

Single shipments will likely go unmolested.

What I got from the news announcement is that whole cases will be stopped as a us version will be available.

While I agree with the general sentiment regarding the anti-Hasbro nonsense, I don't see this as 'following the law'. Not releasing the figure stateside without an affixed blaze-orange cap would be following the law. Hasbro making an effort to prevent importation of product by a secondary company seems more like using the law to flex their muscle.

I'm not going to bad mouth Hasbro, but I had a thought.

You know, I was thinking about the cap issue today. Do you think that Hasbro wants the caps on Masterpiece Megatron so they can deny imported ones and then release the capped ones domestically? Don't know if I'm asking that the right way or not, but considering the number of people it seems order the MAsterpiece series and with the success (?) of Masterpiece Starscream, I thought Hasbro might try to get a slice of that sweet money pie. But who'd buy a modified one when you could order an unmodified one, right? So we have to stop or block the orders in preparation for an eventual US Hasbro release. Megatron isn't an unknown character, and it looks like anticipation for this figure is running real high all over, so it seems like that would make financial sense.
I'm not calling this a conspiracy, by the way.....just marketing.
Sorry, I haven't been keeping up with this issue. A freind of mine says she knows a guy who is ordering unmodified Megatrons so I'm gonna get mine through her which would come through him, so I've ignored cap talk and such. Anyhow this was just a thought I had during the day. Forgive me if it's nonsense.
