Fan entitlement is bad enough, but this is a flying leap past that into fan victimhood.

That could be a good idea, especially for older G1 Reissues where they say they've lost the molds.

I would really love for them to make G1 Unicron. The ridiculous looking prototype. I love that retro SOB.

It is fun to take one line out of context as a straw-man argument, isn't it? I imagine you were flailing your arms around and screaming your indignation while making this out of context little jib. Perception is reality, after all.

First off, get a grip.
If you're not going to read the context of a comment before cherry picking, then don't use it. It's almost as bad as those people that comment on a YouTube video clearly before they've even seen it. We were discussing comparisons to the other Titan Class size Bots. Unicron's closest contemporaries. Generations Trypticon is the heaviest of the three so far, but that doesn't take two people to hold it, as per Warden's cliff notes on Unicron. That is bad and unnecessary design.

As far as "engineering" goes, this isn't the first large transforming toy Takara/Hasbro have ever made, so stop trying to argue it is something new and unprecedented.
The best feat of engineering HasTak has done to date is MP-36 Megatron.
This is a modernised and upscaled UT Unicron. If it were some revolutionary marvel as per MP-36 (or potentially MP-44) The panels wouldn't be stored in the exact same places as the aforementioned toy, they would have been concealed or incorporated into the design. From the front, this does look MP, as with the other recent City Bots, in Bot Mode. From the back, not so much.

There is no "entitlement" to what I'm saying, Nor is it blind and obsequious Fanboying. It is an unbiased appraisal from someone with an educated background in design and overall aesthetic.

Context doesn't save that accusation, dude. That one is right up there with "YOU USED UP ALL THE GLUE, ON PURPOSE!"

He is not a "modernized and upscaled UT Unicron". If he was, he'd be smaller and lighter, have hollow spots, play gimmicks, and visible feet in planet mode. There are similarities, yes, but that's because they turn into the same basic thing.

There is only so much integration and stashing of planet-crust panels you can do with Unicron, especially when making a super G1-accurate planet mode that's completely round and hides his robot mode feet (and which thus needs more planet shell pieces than the Armada toy had) while also doing as show-accurate a robot mode as possible. The fact of the matter is, there isn't enough room in the bot to hide all the planet kibble, no matter what you do. The only way to eliminate the issue would be to go back in time and thump Floro Dery until he drew a less cheatsy robot mode.

To be fair, I think people had issue with MP-36's backpack as well; just it's paneling and overall messy look (which I don't personally mind and would still love to get that figure at some point.) With John Warden basically stating that this figure is essentially all we will get for a "MP Unicron" we should be comparing it more to Masterpiece figures rather than the titans, even though the gravitas is comparable to a titan.On the point of the ridiculous heft, I think anyone that were to get a MP figure and have it be hollow would absolutely appalled, hence the need for it to be absurdly heavy. Also with the kibble, I think rather than comparing it to the 84-85 cast of TF's, it'd be more fair to compare him to the Beast Wars MP's instead. The irregular and "cheaty" transformations in the show for them have led to those having some robo-kibble in most of the beast modes (and some kibble in Dino-Meg's robo-back as well). I think the same can be said for Unicron, that without some actual engineering magic, you can't make him kibble free and turn into a perfect sphere (hence why the UT Unicron had feetsies hanging out as a planet, because he is far from being that.)

I read the TFSource article and I could probably come up with three legitimate reasons NOT to get Unicron.

For me, it would be space. I'd back him if I had that kind of spare money, but I would trade or gift mine to someone else.

That reason is the one that end all others.

Because for all the other reasons, there's work-arounds.

At first, I was in denial to get him simply for space reasons.
But Life found a way.

Ha!. Yes I’m sure my wife’s grandfather’s bronze bust can be tossed aside and relinquish its place to our lord Unicron. Surely she won’t mind... maybe I can make some space in the office instead.

But the whole paying for something and not seeing it for 6 months+ reminds me far too much of PremiumCollectables.

Having read that interview, seen more pictures, especially close to actual hoo-mans, and seen that he is effectively an MP Unicron, I think I need to be in.

I can afford it and I have a spot to store it... but the question of "WHY?" simply has no good answer for me. Dedicating $575 all at the same time to buying Transformers could be allocated towards buying pretty much every rare older Transformer that I even have a slight inkling of a desire to get. Or, I could get this single immensely impressive figure that is so huge, rare, and unwieldy, I'd probably only transform it once. Hell, it'd work better as an MISB investment for me since the aftermarket price will likely reach absolutely asinine levels in a few years. That's... actually kind of a compelling reason, but I'm not really one for selling figures, so still a no.
