...wow. Your priorities are really, really screwed up. That isn't even the least bit close to the realm of humor.

Get your head checked.

Anyway...idiocy aside....

I think this might've been an accidental overdose. With a kid just born, everything (as far as we can tell) going for him...I have serious doubts he'd have done it on purpose.

My Dad made a great point...if he was trying to kill himself, he'd have taken the whole bottle to ensure the end result.

darn. terrible, terrible news. what a way to start my day.

it's The Crow all over again. just when an actor finally gives one of the best performances of his career, something bad happens.

i guess this really shows how fragile life really is.

i'll be looking forward to TDK. i know i'll feel a deep sadness within once the final credits roll. no matter how big TDK becomes in the box office, there's just no replacing one of the best young actors of our generation.

requiem in pace Heath.

@Autobot: i don't think Liege meant something bad about his statement. i think he's just as shocked as we are. chill man.

man, playing Joker must really have put a toll on him... poor man...

now i know it's too early for conspiracy theories, but i think he went through a tough time in his life right after TDK, and turned to sleeping pills and alcohol. i'd like to think that this is no suicide, but rather an accidental overdose.

i hope the family can go through this tough time. i hear he has a 2-year old daughter. man, it's tough losing your father at that age, and in a bad way too.

much respect to Michelle Williams and his remaining relatives that he left behind.

He had just gotten back from Europe, and sleeping pills were found around his body. That means one thing: Jet Lag!

Apparently, he was trying to get to sleep, but kept waking up, so he'd take another. After a while opne can assume that, from the sleeping pills and the lack of sleep, he'd be totally out of it, and wouldn't be able to think "Hey, I think I should just have a glass of warm milk instead," and ended up ODing.

No I wasn't.

This is going to be another Anna Nichole, and worse yet a reason for Britney to up the loony level even higher cause now one less person is talking about her.

A youthful death is, yes very tragic.

However when a celebrity is involved, gay cowboy or not, it seems like the whole world stops.

Now again, it is sad, but you know what, I've yet to see one show interupted for a soldier of the same age being killed in any war ever. I never saw the news drop every story to talk about these deaths on the streets and so on, yet still use them as 10 second promos...

Is it sad, YEAH, is it the end of the world, far from it!

I made that statment because by next weekend this will be a footnote in a John Stewart rerun, there are more important things, and if the media, and hell even the members who posted here put half the effort into acknowledging the real matters in the every day world instead of crying over some actor who probably freebased when he should have snorted...

...the world might be one half a step better!

Now I leave you to your tragedy.

Simple answer to that Liege. If the news put them on the television for me so I could see they had died, I would mourn them. They don't. I can't mourn a person I don't even know exists.

Your mom happens to be killed in a car accident because of some drunk driver. If I don't know about it, how can I feel bad about her being broken in two?

Yeah same thing bud. Door swings both ways.

Then why doesn't every televised casualty have a thread?

And realy, do you need a tap on the shoulder just to realize the world is a tragic place!?!

Is it the only way people know anymore to express concern for everyday matters anymore?

If so, this is sadder than people think.

Celebrity delema, it's hype, not importance. It's tragic, but not the end of the world.

Hell, by that mentality Paris Hilton would have revolutionized the justice system with some tears and a bible.

Also, if you're gonna kill MY mom, I sugest you be more creative.

Simple answer? I don't care about the random person that got shot in the ghetto that is Cleveland. They mean nothing to me.

A soldier or a celebrity I admire is different from the human filth that brings down the economy around here.

And I don't think anyone is playing off that his death is the end of the world dude. I think people just want to express that they are saddened by a good actor and seemingly good person dying at the age of 28.

If you want to make a thread to mourn soldiers by all means do so. I'm sure plenty of people would be more than happy to offer condolences for all the families that have lost children mothers and fathers in this war.

If someone has helped keep me entertained, safe, free or otherwise alive and kicking, I'll be saddened by their death.

But I have to say that your "eh he's dead, so what" attitude comes off much worse than I think you realize. I mean from your perspective it seems that we should either mourn every person who dies, or no people at all.

I think, Liege, this whole thread is about mourning Heath Ledger. If you don't really have anything to say for him or his death then, well (and I say this in the nicest possible way) this probably isn't the place for you to be?

I get your point though. But you have to remember that (I believe), soldiers do get their acknowledgements too, perhaps not in media coverage, but do they not erect memorials? Names set in stone?

But as I say... We've heard your point and it's only going to go south from here, right?

Well, if he did die with a smile on his face. Thats a good way to go.

It sucks that he died, he was a damned good actor.

Though I wonder what this spells for TDK. If he wasn't totally finished filming his part, will the directors get his stunt double to finish out acting for him but cut out most of the close-ups and speaking lines?

Will they do what they did for John Candy in Wagons East?

You know what, I live in a ghetto area. I'm charitable, decent, and so are many of my neighbors.

Any one of us can get mugged and murdered walking from our cars at night, and would we fall into what you concider generalized filth?

I'm not faulting anyone for mourning, hell it's something I'd never do. I will however point out that there are more precident matters in the world that such empathy sould be employed towards.

You know, we could have been very much on the same page here, but your coment about ghetto filth. To generalize people by location and class, throughing noble victoms in with dreggs because it seems to be a overall financial burdon...

Man, I wish that would have just left a bad taste, but sir, you stir bile.

1.) No one knows whether or not this overdose was planned or accidental. (At this point, police are saying accidental.)

2.) Regardless of the person, their death is not something to be taken lightly. You're entitled to your opinion, doesn't mean it's not crap though.

Liege Evilmus wrote:However when a celebrity is involved, gay cowboy or not, it seems like the whole world stops.

1.) "Brokeback Mountain" wasn't his only movie. Sure, it was the one that put his name on the map out of a "Whoa..." factor, but he's made many others that were quite big and name making. I never watched Mountain (for obvious reasons), but to discount him because he was in "the gay cowboy" movie...is ridiculous.

2.) I fully agree that soldiers should be treated the same as a star, however, the world refuses to do so. It's easier to make 'em cannon fodder and hope for the best. (Don't agree with it at all, just saying that's what the case is.)

3.) This is America, we've been getting prestige off the backs of others since the beginning of this nation. The "how" has changed, the "why" hasn't. (Again, not saying it's right. It's just the nature of the beast, it seems.)

4.) Yes, it is sad, and while it isn't the end of the world for us, it's darn near close for his family and friends. Let's try and remember their loss as well, hmm? What about respect for them?

Liege Evilmus wrote:I made that statment because by next weekend this will be a footnote in a John Stewart rerun, there are more important things, and if the media, and hell even the members who posted here put half the effort into acknowledging the real matters in the every day world instead of crying over some actor who probably freebased when he should have snorted...

Now I leave you to your tragedy.

Will the world continue to spin? Surely. Does it make a person's death any less significant? No. (That's your problem.)

And while you might be right about the media, you've no right to cast judgment on anyone here. You have no idea what they're thinking right at this moment and guess what? It makes them human to be concerned about the loss of another being. Perhaps they don't always show it on here, but everyone of us has a good side and we keep forgetting that.

People like you constantly think of the negative and remind us that there's no hope obviously. (No, I don't know you, but it was irritating for me to make that call, wasn't it?)

How dare you even say we don't concern ourselves with bigger worries, you can't say for certain what any one person is thinking. (If you can, impress me, Nostradamus!)

Freebasing? Snorting? Someone's got a good knowledge of drug use. Perhaps that's where your skewed view of the world came from.

Leave us to our tragedy? What a ridiculous comment. You say the media cashes in on it, but you being able to make a joke out of it...are you any better? No.

Sure they're scum for making money out of it, but you? You're doing it for pure, sick pleasure and there's no possible good reason for that.

From where I'm sitting, you're the joke. And no one's laughing.

And that goes for the rest of you with a cavalier attitude towards life and those of others.

People like you are the reason this world is turning into crap. One too many people turning their backs on the rest.

This was a thread about celebrating the actor's life and mourning his death. Now it's been turned into a train wreck. Pathetic.

We get a couple of them each year on the day's around the world when countries pay tribute to soldiers.

But yeah, if a multitude of memorial days each year across the world isn't enough Liege, then feel free to start a thread and update it regularly with the new names of those that fall in service to their countries.

Because while I do share your sentiment that we pay too much attention to celebrities, many of which don't deserve the attention, I don't agree with your feelings towards this thread.

We all have our heroes, those that we admire, those who entertain us and bring that little bit of joy into our lives, and if someone wants to pay respect to that person that brings them the joy or those that they admire then they should be allowed to do so (within the rules of the site) without someone coming in with a "they're not worth the attention" attitude. Let people pay their respects in their way. You'd expect the same from everyone else if you wanted to pay respect to someone you cared for or admired.

Just thought I'd interject with my thoughts about why people might feel a certain need to mourn an actor's passing.

I think any person can be personally touched by an actor or any other contributor to any form of art. By definition, art should be something that effects you emotionally, to some degree or another, whether it be movies, theatre, music, or something more tangible like a painting or sculpture. If someone deeply moves another person through his or her particular art, I see no reason why there wouldn't be some kind of connection. That is generally what people seem to be refering to when they say they'll miss someone they've never actually met personally.

Having said that, I can also say that I have felt an emotional impact from no less than two of Heath Ledger's performances. While whatever emotional connection I may feel may not be as strong as for a family member or friend, I do feel a certain sense of loss. Mostly for the lost potential of this particular individual's talent more than anything else.
