ok idk how steven speilberg did it but how in the heck did the movie get a pg13 rating.... dont get me wrong i'm 1,000,000,000% not a hater but i brought my 12 year old little sister to it and a couple parts i had to say to my self "omg i shouldnt have brought her"...

1. middle finger
2. language
3. guy getting impaled my scorpy's stinger
4. parents asking sam if he was masterbating
5. people getting disintigeated by blackout's shockblast attack

those are just 5 examples
but only 1,2,3,and 4 were what made me regret bringing her

There were a lot of kids at the showing I went to, and, like I told the Mrs., it's not a kids movie. They were right for giving it a PG-13.
BTW, did anyone notice that every time some said "what the" or "mother" they were cutting out another word, like "f*ck". Might be some truth to the whole rumor about it having to be recut to avoid an R.

I brought my nephew and cousin (9 and 10, respectively) and they both asked "what's masturbation?" at the same time!

That was a very awkward moment...

What is PG13 these days is alot different than it used to be. I can see TFs coming close to R, but as it is, PG13 seemed fitting for the movie.

You're correct. It's a family movie, which means parts of it fit for every member of the family. Kids to adults. Not always is a family movie the perfect fit, however.

I for one am glad they didn't use the f-word. I'd have left right then (and I'm 100% serious too.)

There's no reason to have that kind of language in something like this. Kills the fun for some people and everyone should be able to have fun and enjoy this film.

It's supposed to bring the kid out in you, not the foul mouthed little brat who needs a whuppin'.

LMAO! All you can do in those situations is avoid the subject all together and say "Nevermind, heres more candy." :D

Yeah I was pretty shocked that the first words out of Jazz was "What's up B*tches?"

The guy getting impaled by scorpy probably was ok because it happened so fast it was a blur and wasn't graphic with blood and guts. In fact, was there even blood in this movie? I think back and everyone pretty much had dirty faces, thats it.

I was wondering if that would happen. There was a ton of little kids at the showing I went to as well.

And the reason the movie received a PG-13 rating was that it originallyl received an R rating, but Spielburg and Bay talked it down to a PG-13, or so I've read.

The Rating system is a complete sham. If you want some insight, watch the documentary "This Film is not yet Rated". It will open your eyes to a lot of crap that goes on in the movie rating system.

Independant films tend to get hit really hard, whereas big names get all kinds of breaks.

Also, violence gets ignored over sex in the rating system a ton. You can murder people all day long and not get an NC-17. But don't have any sexual content or you are in trouble. (part of this is because for some reason they have religious representives on the panel as well.)

If you disagree with a rating and want to appeal it, you have to take it to an appeals board that is made up of (Can you guess?) represenitives from all the major movie makers. Disney, Warner Brothers, etc. (So much for an objective panel of common everyday people who have no stake in your movie's success huh?)

The people who run the the rating system claim that they pick people with children and (average joes) but when investigated it was found that the majority of the people doing these ratings didn't even have children.

Watch the movie, it will surprise the heck out of you. The Rating system is more a tool of major movie companies to stay on top then it is any kind of "service" to people.

I'm not sure if American ratings and Australian ratings are different, but when I saw the movie in Australia, it was rated M.

I noticed lots of parents with small children taking their kids out of the theater when I saw it tonight; and I kinda got the impression from one mother talking on the way out after the film that she kinda expected it be like a cartoon aimed primarily at little kids.

It's the same thing with video games, a mom buys GTA: San Andreas for a 7 year old and then gets pissed because CJ drops the N-bomb and the F-bomb a few hundred times.

There's a reason the rating says M+17

and the movie says PG-13, little kids shouldn't be near it

I thought the masturbation joke was a little much. PG-13 or not, this movie was highly marketed towards kids (Slumblebee, anyone?), which puts a lot of parents in an awkward situation when they're asked to explain what that means.

To be honest though, I thought that whole scene was the funniest part of the movie...

No, the joke was funny. The use of the word masturbation was too much. They could've still used the joke and cleaned it up quite a bit and still have it be funny. Sam and his dad made the clip a pure classic.

In that moment, I do feel like Bay is condescending to us.. "It's a joke about this, this is what it's called. Any questions? No? Good, now laugh." like we wouldn't have gotten it. However, the rest of the time, I felt he did a fine job, except for the shaky cam sh*t.

I saw it first and I thought my kids could handle it. I don't let them watch much with bad language and I often talk to them about what is and is not acceptable words.

I don't have an issue with violence. They have seen the fight scenes from I,Robot, AvP and Aliens and they have never had a problem with violence. But language and sensuality are a serious concern in my house.

So after I took them to see it (my mistake, I take full credit) my younger son was heard yelling in the playroom; "What the hell?"

~sigh~ Just another cool movie I can never enjoy with my children.

Glad you meantioned that. I did get a bit tired of the shaky cam. I know it worked for Firefly and Battlestar Galactica but it didn't fit TF.

Who said the movie was ruined for me? If you are referring to TFTM, my all time favorite movie, they never said "f*ck" they said "****" and "dammit". TF is a franchise where the "F" word is complete unnecessary.
