Offhand, I'd have to say the movie design seems perfect to me. Blending normal with abnormal... Human designs with extraterrestrial technology...

He's utterly alien, and yet there's also a sense of familiarity, something we can connect to for lack of a better term. The incorporation of the flame pattern seems fitting to me, in that such an adornment is something all too human. This seems to tap into some form of primal instinct... Us Versus Them. It's human nature to divide ourselves into smaller groups of those who are like us and those who are not like us. Just look at the Cold War.

There's something about the human-made elements among the alien that just screams out 'one of us'. How better to show that he's on our side than to have him display elements we would recognize; to have him, in a sense, be like us?

Megatron, however... He's a different story. The familiar elements are absent. There's nothing we can connect to. Once again, this plays off the Us Versus Them theme. Nothing familiar here. How much more 'not like us' can you get? He's as different as different can be. This plays into another facet of human nature. People fear what is different, what they cannot understand.

So, not only does the Movie Prime work well, but in designing Optimus Prime and Megatron the way he did, Michael Bay has made a wonderful social commentary.

And if you've managed to read all of this without falling asleep, congratulations.

Flames!? If any human comes anywhere near my car with Flame stickers their leaving with 2 black eyes. I'm sorry but flames scream nothing but Hill-billy Ricer, there flashy the complete Opposite of what prime was. But thats niether here nor there His Insides are hanging out. I dont Understanst how any Desepticon can just shoot him in the gut say Good night gracie just like Obe Won did General Grievous.

I'm not talking about what part of society the flames remind you of. I'm not even talking about whether or not it's a hillbilly thing to do. I'm talking about whether or not it's a HUMAN thing to do.

I hate the flames. I really do. Also, the faceplate should stay. Taking that away from Prime is like taking pointy ears away from Batman.

It is a slap in the face to the fans.

Don't even get me started on the mouth, blinking eyes, movable eyebrows, etc.

Just lame...on a freaking ROBOT!

I love movie Prime, IMO he is the ultimate Prime design, the 3D real world translation of the cartoon.

I don't give a witches broomstick about the flames and I think the mouth worked well on the MTV clip. Some people just love to bitch and nitpick, the rest of us will enjoy the film!:)

The flames never bothered me either. The mouth? Mmmm...well, sort of indifferent to it, but it should have been a faceplate through and through. Overall this OP looks kinda cool; its recognizably Optimus. Why they didn't make all the other characters as recognizable as OP I'll never guess.
Critically, I'd say that Prime and all these other robot designs are just too excessive in their busy'ness. There's too much going on with each individual robot's look and I think its going to make for sensory overload on the big screen. But some might dig that anyway, so to each his/her own.

Well put my double-posting common sense filled friend!

I love the new design for Prime. Unlike most I have absolutely no problem with the flames or the mouth. It's not like we haven't seen a Prime, or Primal for that matter, with a mouth.

The leader class Prime is my fav Prime outside of the 20th Prime. Hell I am just happy he doesn't combine with anybody.

If it was less busy I'd move that to a 7.5

I'll agree that in the renders we've seen they seem busy but I think it is because they are lit very brightly and all over. It makes all the detail very clear and easy for us to scrutinize over. I'm glad they did this because it'd fun trying to figure out where all the pieces shift to when they transform.

I think when they are in the movie and lit more realistically lots of the cluttered detail will be lost and we'll get a very nice silhouette. Watch the prime and bonecrusher clip on youtube and you should see what I mean.

i hate to say it, but everything that get's a second comming has to get new fans. and hope that they keep most of the old fans. everything gets reinvented: batman (how many times?), tmnt, spiderman, just to name a few..
i don't think it's any slap in the face, it's a new marketting idea and reinvision of an old product. kinda like when they put tony the tiger on rollerblades instead of rollerskates on your frosted flakes.
everyone will have their ups and downs with it, but the core is still there.
i like alot of things about the movie, but i don't like some stuff about it as well, but i didn't like things about g1, armada, or best wars, but in general, i love it all.. so there you have it really.

I rate prime as BA versus SA.. bad ass Versus sucks ass!!!

10/10 all the way around, the Flames make him look a little too busy, but for the most part, he's a great design, and when you think of the context of how he came upon his altmode when he first landed, you gotta admit, from a Robot alien stand point, if you came to earth, and was a big bad ass leader of a race of sentient robots, and you needed an altmode to travel around in, then you saw what was a shinny chrome colored, Big ass truck with blue and bright red flames roll by, hey I'd be like damn!! thats a nice truck.. hells yeah I would want to be like that and look cool ..as from what I read on the Leader Class box, I believe, was that Prime saw what he considered the coolest things in the world, a semi truck with flames.. and from an alien who has been around machines, I'm sure seeing ours for the first time was interesting and the deco on the truck probably had never been done on Cybertron before.. so from Prime's point of view.. I can see why he'd choose the truck with the flames.. its cool.. and fashionable for a robot in disguise!!

I think this incarnation of Prime is pretty damn good.

He's different than I would have imagined him being on screen for the first time, but different does not equate to bad.

I've had a wait and see attitude with the whole live action film (as evidence by my not bothering much with this forum), but every finished piece I see leads me to think it is going to be absolutely outstanding.

At any rate, this new Prime definately has more ups than it does downs, while I might have preferred a 'bulkier' appearance, the final product really is outstanding.

and isn't that what matters most in the end, having my opinion to agree with?

Aye, I agree...Bay has either purposefully or inadvertantly shown what frightened and biggoted little fleshlings we still are. By monsterizing the Deceps a bit, he's done what we always do, demonize the other. That's how governments sell wars, and its how extremists gain converts. Generally, as in non-film related, the TF's were only really seperated by a symbol and an ideology, which is much closer to what we really are.

Back on topic, one thing I forgot to mention was Prime's mack-truck design. Despite my feelings over what I see (as being mild iconoclasm), I still think it lends just a bit more of a kick-@$$ feel to Prime.
