IRONHIDE SUCKS!!!

Postby Versa » Sun Jul 08, 2007 5:27 am

Okay, he doesn't suck, but I spent over a half hour trying to figure out how to transform the movie Voyager Class autobot toy tonight. HOLY GOD! These instructions are worthless sometimes. One of the directions calls to rotate the whole torso around, but didn't appear to be able to move like that. You really gotta put some torque into it! I feel bad for any 5 year old trying to put that sucker together. My god what a nightmare! Had I been a little kid this thing would probably have been destroyed by now. Some very fragile parts.

I recently got him myself.

Sure, he looks good, but he's hell for any kid. The arms are impossibly stiff at the shoulders, so moving them results in the hip and torso seperating. I didn't have much trouble with rotating the torso though. Its easy when you realise which part of it actually rotates. Though it is pretty stiff. 10/10 for the automorph. its pointelss but I like it.

Oh, and while I was transforming it the roof snapped off. It's now held on plugged into the part it appeared to have snapped from and doesn't want to stay put.

Damn you Hasbro!

Ironhide IS hard to transform, but when you get him into robot mode, he is SO worth it! With his broad shoulders, he's like a robot American football player. He's a voyager, but he just SEEMS way more MASSIVE than just a voyager. He's awesome! He may be my new favorite. My only gripe is that my copy doesn't have paint apps on his face. But ah well, he's still GREAT! =)

I'm not one for Autobots, but a friend of mine loves Ironhide and picked one up...man, that thing is a blast. First autobot I plan on purchasing!

It only took me like 3 minutes to transform mine with just a little help from instructions.I think Ironhide is one of the best figures so far.I think he looks good and poses nice too.

1) they are hasbro isntructions. they werre probaly intened to be starscreams instructions
2)just use excessive force. they are designed to be idoit proof, so they must be versa proof.

He's definitely not a toy for a 5 year old.

The first time i transformed him, I thought I was going to break something every time I unfolded a panel.

He looks really cool. and Classics Grimlock gun makes him look even cooler. But he is a pain to transform.

In Level of pain-ness to transform i think he is up there with Alternators Grimlock.

I never understood American football. I find proper footbal pointless and boring, but carrying the ball round in your arms?

That's not football at all!

Judge a sport not on its name, but how big you have to be to play it...

I agree! But I also agree that calling the game American football is so odd, considering the only players to get to kick the ball are the dinky kickers.

But back on track to Ironhide, he is VERY confusing and frustrating at first, but after a few times you should get the hang of it. His delicate parts are VERY delicate (His blue middle connecter piece), and I wouldnt recommend anyone under 10 messing with this figure. Other than that he looks great, poses...decent. My favorite head mold but i wish more was happening with his eyes, kind of a blunder right there.

Ironhide isn't that bad. I spent a fair amount of time transforming him (Not a half hour though) & I was pleased w/the end result, especially after finding out that the back of his head is really Soundwave, & his two arm cannons make him even more Soundwave-like. Sometimes the waist can be a pain, but once you figure out how to work it out, it's not that bad.

I think they are supposed to be slightly angled. Something like this.

I'm not totally convinced though about the look though.

his light piping on the other hand. needs a very bright light source to work properly. Like this. anything else just can't get through, the eyes are just too opaque.

Dude, that Ironhide is ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!

But in all honesty what lighting did you use to achieve that? Did you mess with his head at all to make the piping more clear? mines eyes look completely painted over...

P.S Where the hell did that other gun come from?

Ratchet > Ironhide

I would have to meet you halfway on that. I got Ratchet first and he was pretty easy to work with and came out nicely. Ironhide however just has a much cooler and and somehwat more sleeker look to him.

I ironically just got my Ironhide yesterday....and honest to god I am glad to see I am not the only one who struggled. It took me the longest time to figure out how to turn his whole top half around. Also it took me a while to figure out that you had to press down on what are the two shoulder covers of the truck.

But once i go that out of the way, it was pretty cool seeing him in all his glory....

however getting him back into his Ford mode.....

...that took HOURS.

I cannot express how frustrating it was trying to figure out how to get his sorry butt back into a pickup! I finally mastered it and much to relief i can do his transformation so much easier now. He is really a a cool looking butt and neat truck....but good lord they really could have at least explained some things a bit more better. Honestly....would someone just make some sorta transformation troubleshooer videos? I would if I had a camcorder!

[quote="Bumbled"]Wow he looks really nice Overcracker, great pose too.

Thanx.

He's a very cool display piece.

for those who were wondering, the gun, is Classics Grimlock's Gun, without the missile. It almost looks like it belongs to him.

The Light piping was done with a key chain flashlight applied directly to the back of his head. That's the only way I got his eyes to pipe.

As for his waist, its a total pain. but if you can get the two tabs into the tow holes in the blue piece that connects his waist, he's a bit sturdier. But i always forget to un- clamp his waist, and end up struggling, to get him back to alt mode.

Ignore the Instructions, transform him intuitively. Dont try to force anything, or you might snap something, Ironhide is a figure that needs to have certain parts in certain places for them to lock down properly. If he is too hard for you, then pickup the FAB version.

His chest is meant to be angled, but I did get in to sit flat, thanks to some blue-tak, it does not look as good.

He is a brilliant figure, especially for the Voyager price point, both modes are nicely done, although I personally feel a touch of colour would have done him a world of good with all the detailing on him.
Awesomesauce; Use it, you know you want to.

Anybody else think that neither Ratchet nor Ironhide look much like their on-screen sounterparts?

I don't have either 'cuz I'm too poor, but from looking at the pics, the Ironhide toy looks too tall and lean when in the film he looks stocky and bulky, and the Ratchet toy looks too stocky and bulky when in the film he's tall and lean... how strange.

I don't like his robot mode. His face is jumbled, his feet are unbalanced, and he's top-heavy as hell. He's easily my least favorite figure from the movie line so far.

ye, that's what i've been trying to do (which you're post looking effin' bad) but the hood hinge is like a hair trigger. i've come real close i tell you overcracker, just haven't got it there yet.. i wonder if there is anything you can do to make those springs have less action. :-?
hair spray or something? ehh, i don't want my figure sticky..

You're exactly right, I have them both and after seeing the film twice I'm a bit disappointed with the way Ironhide looks. Rachet is more forgiveable since all of the movie toys are bulkier than their on-screen counterparts but Ironhide's proportions are totally off from his CGI version.
