im downloading something and i want to know how long its gonna take.its down speed is 11kb/s. its 2.65gb.i dont kno how much kb is in gb so help.

kb/s is Kilobytes per second. Meaning you're getting 11 kilobytes of data every second. This always fluctuates in any download, though.

mb is Megabyte, and gb is Gigabyte. There are 1024 kilobytes in a megabyte, and 1024 megabytes in a Gigabyte.

So, at 2.65gb, which I'll round to 2778112kb (Only an estimate), at 11kb/s...32 days if I did the math right.

I got 32 hours(probably did my math wrong)... either way thats a long time for a download.

I divided by 60 for kilobytes per minute, then another sixty for kilobytes per hour, then 24 for kilobytes per day.

32x24=768h!! wtf!!! 768 hours is total shi#. the com is on 2 hours a day........wait.its 3.5% and the com has been on for 2.5 hours...so that's 57 hours! saturday the com is usually 10hours, sunis 5h,weekday is 2hours. thats 25 hours per week.i cant wait that long!!!!!! :sad:

2.65 gigabytes = 2778726.4 kilobytes

Divided by 11 gives 252611.49 seconds.

Divided by 60 is 4210.19 minutes.

Divided by 60 is 70.17 hours.

Which is about 3 days.

Although I know it once took me back on dial-up 8 hours to download a ~100MB file at 5 kb/sec. If you figure that yours is more than twice as fast, that gives an estimate of more like 4 days.

Like I said, it fluctuates. It may get really fast, or really slow.

the kbps changes. sometimes its 19 kbps sometimes 2kbps but avg is 11.

Well, it's more like 70 hours, not 200+. Although that's still a long time. I'd recommend finding someone with broadband and a DVD burner who'd be willing to help.

Doesn't matter; you'd have better luck burning 2.6GB onto one DVD than having to split the data up over 4 CDs, especially if it's one large file.

Shadowman: Don't feel bad, I had to re-check my math a few times. I just had my own "empirical" experience to guide me to what the right timeframe ought to be like.

There is of course a difference between kb and kB, where a lowercase b refers to bits and a uppercase B refers to bytes.

*bps is usually expressed in network speeds and *B usually refers to file size.

The 11kbps speed could be dependant on several things of course. Distance from source to server, traffic congestion anywhere along the line, or of course the source could have limiters in place to ensure that one person doesnt' hog all their bandwidth.

its kB and the connection is dsl. i just noticed somethying.whenever the net is on the down spd increases. the dwn sp is 20 now. its 20.7% crap. there was an error so i have to delete it and dl it again. when it was started it got pumped up to 8%! whoa the dwn sp is in the 30's. whoot! 45% if i leave the com on till tomorrow it should be done.
