I didnt feel the doc bot stages in 3 were any worse than them tossing in 2 castles in all following games. Only reason might felt cheap cause the backgrounds were supposed to look like the previous ones and was bosses we d fought in 2(which woodman did suck since hes too big with his docbot form to jump over his shield properly , was an oversight there), but I liked it myself since they had all new weaknesses this time around. The bosses in 2 were cooler than some of the bosses that got tossed together in the first castles in 4-6 anyways so worked for me.
I didnt want to see them reuse the idea every game on, like say we d have fight MM 3s bosses in 4 then, and so on, but was a cool idea to to use sparingly. Like if they made MM 10 and took and used a docbot stage with a RM from all first 8 games would be like an All star run then.
I downloaded it at my brothers since I havent bought a next gen system of my own yet. I managed get 2nd wily stage boss but I had go before I could beat it. I was able to beat most boss stages in a try or 2. Only one I died on alot was tornado man, boy was that a pain.
Its overall geared to be harder than previous NES ones, but they toss you a bone with the shop to offset it.
