Megatron custom repaint

Postby Liege Evilmus » Sat Jul 21, 2007 10:14 am

I was just looking around on Ebay and came across an unbelievable Movie Megatron repaint.

It's to rich for my blood, but with the amount of effort put into it, I can understand the $350 rate.

I know Hasbro could do it cheaper, and it realy makes me wonder "Just why won't they :???: "

Enjoy

this proves how 'wrong' hasbro painted it...come on...ice blush on the face and limbs...not to speak of those red transparant 'thingies'...

the initial moviemegs looks like it transforms into a lollipop, but this on rocks!

Yikes that gorgeous!

Not gorgeous enough to warrant the price, but the Hasbro version isn't worth the price either. It's total garbage.

Beautiful work, bad character choice. Let's see him do some better figs.

that is awesome!! how hard would it be to do, for someone who has never painted a figure before.

im looking at my leader megatron and it looks so crap compared to this ebay one.

i wouldn't pay $480 US for it though!

edit: i didnt even bother to look at the link posted, i asumed it was this one:

That looks great as well. Too bad Hasbro didn't paint him like that.

You know what surprises me is that I like the Hasbro original better than the fan repaints. I had a chance to see comparison pics with one of the best repaints out there, and I still prefer the original.

Hmm.

You are certainly entitled to your opinion..

However i don't like the original color scheme, What I find intriguing is how every repaint has the Gold coloring accents added, and I like that a sort of conscious census has been formed on that coloring, considering the concept art doesn't show any signs of it, and the movie version moves by too fast for me to tell, but it really kinda fits to the actual bot himself.. He's the Lord High protector Megatron and as such he should be Silver and Golden in coloring.. as a regal figure..

As long as we are at it for Leader class figures, could we get a Leader class protoform Optimus Prime, I would love to have him and Leader Megatron Duking it out like in the Prequel comics!!!

Awesome repaint man great job. You know with so many repaints looking better than the origional you would figure that Hasbro would take notice and do something about it.

It's not exactly easy to explain, but "intuitive" works.

After comparing the two, and actually owning the Hasbro original, being able to see it in person...

I found that the colors brought attention to the figure, kinda embellished on the details of the design.

In person, compared to the pictures you see online, the colors are muted quite a bit, cameras (not Ryan's fault) tend to embellish on certain aspects of a picture, which in turn doesn't always give quite the accurate picture.

You have to see and experience it first hand to really understand, that's the thing about Megatron. Pictures are just not able to really capture him correctly. He's definitely one of those figures that in person experience is the only way to really take him in.

However, unlike some people, I had a positive experience and just had to have him. (He's now one of my favorite figures, period. I don't regret the purchase one bit.) Not all will think of him favorably, and that's alright as well.

The repaint, while nice and detailed, is boring, boring, boring. It's monochromatic, it's bland, and it's expensive for no good reason. (Don't get me wrong, spending time repainting that guy from head to to toe is no easy feat, I can fully understand that one.)

To be honest, usually "accurate" repaints (though I wouldn't technically call this one exactly accurate, but damn close.) really get to me and it's one of those "I gotta have" or "I gotta do that" things. Not so with Megatron.

I've grown to love him as a great toy, great character, and great design. I'd even go so far as to say it's a bit of respect for the original figure (movie, not G1) and how the repaint changes the overall presentation of the figure.

Boy, I hope that made sense. It's 6:17 in the morning and I'm a tad groggy.

Whoa! "Brainmaster" indeed! That's really insightful, and a very interesting take as well. It's always good to understand different perceptions and perspectives, and you have surely given me food for thought.

I have to say that when I saw the repaints I thought, this is so much better. Bearing in mind what you said and looking at Leader Megatron again, I begin to see him in a different light.

I've always thought that, as 'simple' as some people have said his transformation was, and a bit of a cheat, the only thing that turned me off is that his head was covered by one simple piece of plastic. However I always did think the robot mode and starship mode on their own looked pretty good.

I have also had cause to re-examine my gripes with the colour. I find myself thinking that if I hadn't had the hindsight of seeing the movie and telling myself "This ain't the colour" then it does have merits on its own. In fact when I first say him before I watched the movie I thought he looked pretty good.

So now I'm left to ponder if I should after all add him to my collection. That's another SGD$90...

Even if Hasbro didnt go the whole hog and paint all the detail into Megatron, what would have been so hard to at least paint him the correct colour?

The figure actually looks far better in the bronze/copper colour than it does in that Hideous Blue hue.
Awesomesauce; Use it, you know you want to.

Oh believe me, I find the head a cheat, and a terrible one at that.

However, I wouldn't say the rest of his transformation is that much of a cheat. Admittedly, the arms are a bit wonky, but not a cheat, not in my mind. I've seen worse transformations.

In fact, the way he transforms, you can actually see that it copies the transformation he has when he's landing between the buildings and throws the minivan trying to get to Sam. (It's the clip where he's doing a flip into robot mode before landing.)
