Movies that never were that you would've liked to have seen

Postby Keeperofthespark » Sat May 03, 2008 8:45 pm

We all have heard these rumored and anticipated movies but were either sad or happy that they got canned in the end. So what cancelled projects or at least different approached adaptations of a project that actually made it would you have liked to have seen?

I would've liked to have seen-
-James Cameron's Spider-Man
-Nick Cassavites' Iron Man.
-Robert Zemeckis' Transformers( I believe he got busy or didn't feel the need to do it, but of course in Spielberg's eyes "Bay was the perfect choice.")
-Joseph Kahn's Transformers( it would've sucked but it would've been interesting to see his style for it)
-Tim Burton's Superman Reborn( or Lives)
-Roland Emmerich's Dragonball Z, which was going to star Hugh Jackman as Goku and Jessica Alba as Bulma.
-Jan DeBont's Godzilla
-James Cameron and Ridley Scott's Alien 5
-George A. Romero's Resident Evil
-Baz Lhurman's Alexander The Great
-Tim Burton's Batman 3
-John McTiernan's Batman Forever
-Darren Aronosky's Batman: Year One( It wouldn't have exactly been Batman, but it would've been interesting)
-John Woo's Metroid
-John Woo's Phantom of the Opera with John Travolta as the Phantom along with Niccole Kidman) if I am correct)
-John Woo's TMNT
-John Woo's Masters of the Universe
-The live action verison of Johnny Bravo with Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as Johnny.
-John Carpenter's The Creature from the Black Lagoon.
-Van Helsing, no not the 2004 movie with Hugh Jackman, the hoped for sequel to Bram Stoker's Draucla from 1992, as far as I know this was going to be made in 1994.
-Wes Craven's Superman 4
-James Cameron's Planet of the Apes
-Brad Bird's The Spirit
-Spawn 2
-The "Who Framed Roger Rabbit?" sequel
-Jaws 3 People 0( A purposed parody of the first two films that was changed to an actual sequel)
-Evil Dead 4( or will it be dead?!)
-E.T. 2
-Face/Off but with Arnie and Stallone and set in the future( as it was originally set in prior to John Woo's involvement that changed it all)
-Psycho V: The Ending. This was was supposed to be a made for TV movie that was sort of like Silence of the Lambs but with Bates being the Hannibal Lector role. Didn't happen due to Anthony Perkins death.
-Sean Astin's Fantastic Four
-The Rock 2, but we can alreayd consider Enemy oif the State and National Treasure 2 to be, in a way, a sequel since they both have some of the elements of the original story for The Rock 2.
-Masters of the Universe 2: Skeletor's Revenge
-Tim Burton's Dinosaurs Attack!( didn't happen becuas the plot was to comparable to Jurassic Park's)
-Peter Jackson's produced Halo movie.
-Danny Boyle's Alien 4
-Steven Spielberg's Harry Potter
-Joe Carnahan's Mission: Impossible 3
-Oliver stone's Mission: Impossible 2
-Oliver Stone's Superman
-ID4 2
-True Lies 2
-The Six million dollar man movie that Kevin Smith wrote
-Geena Davis' Sailor Moon adaptation, in which she was going to play Queen Baryl.
-The Fly 3
-Freddy Vs. Jason Vs. Ash
-Michael Myers Vs. Pinhead
-Ridley Scott's I Am Legend with Arnie as Robert Neville
-Michael Bay's Pain & Gain, which was going to be like Point Break but with body builders.
-Rob Zombie's The Crow 3

These ones I was hoping for.

There was a sequel to the original Bela Lugosi Dracula, featuring Van Helsing and his psychiatrist (Court-ordered, for obvious reasons) fighting against Dracula's Daughter. It was called Dracula's Daughter.

I'd say more, but I don't feel qualified to criticize movies that old.

It could have happened, but Mr. Spielberg suggested too many outlandish changes, and JK Rowling, having been smart enough to keep creative control (Something all writers should do), shot him down.

Years ago I heard rumours of a live action GI Joe movie. Having only ever seen a few fuzzy episodes on rented tapes (cos NZL sucks so much arse they wouldn't play GI Joe on TV) I don't have too much to go by. But I think it could have been okay.
Something memorable here.

If M. Bay made a Death's head movie, I would have paid big bucks to see it.

Anything with James Cameron at the helm gets bonus points, even "Titanic". Although, to be honest, "True Lies" exists as the greatest paradox in cinema - it's got Cameron directing, and stars Arnie, and still sucks. But, yeah, he's usually top-notch with casting for his films, so if he'd have been in charge of "Spiderman", it wouldn't suffer from the twin issues of Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst.
Robert Zemeckis was going to make a transformers film? This would have been interesting. Definately would have been better than letting Michael "I think explosions and steadicams compensate for substance" Bay near it.
I'd heard of Cameron's plans for an fifth film in the "Alien" series, but he stopped writing it when he heard of "Alien versus Predator". Didn't know Ridley Scott was going to be involved though. Would have been quite the team, I'll tell you that.
Darren Aronofsky is responsible for one of my favourite films of all time ever, "π". Letting him have a go at Batman would have made even me, an avowed anti-Batman-ite, sit up and pay attention.
John Carpenter films are usually hit-or-miss for me, though often more hit than miss. If he made "Creature from the Black Lagoon" as more of an action film, I'd definately have gone for it. But "Halloween" was all kinds of awful, so I'd avoid the hell out of a 'Halloween-in-the-jungle' style film.
Were there plans for a fourth "Evil Dead" film? From what I gather, any rumours about it were misdirected talk of the upcoming film "My Name Is Bruce"
The last two I quoted both fall under a similar heading. "Face/Off" was actually really good, but action films need action stars to really work, in my opinion, and Arnie and Stallone would have been perfect for this one. As for "I Am Legend", the recent Will Smith version was utter tripe, even with Mike Patton being involved. And I love me some Mike Patton. Something in my head keeps telling me that with Arnie involved instead of Will Smith, the film would have been more like "The Omega Man", which I absolutely love.

I'm tempted to add "Grass Roots" to this list, it's a claymation film based on the old "Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers" comics. It seems to have stalled to the point of dropping right off the face of the planet, and I sincerely hope it goes through.

Oh, and the two Warhammer 40,000 movies. "Bloodquest" and "Exterminatus". One just disappeared into thin air, one was shut down close to release by games Workshop for being unofficial (rather than them buying the rights to it and releasing it and making money off of it, you know?

That was canned because of 9/11, so they got Transformers instead.

I would have loved to see the original Ghost Rider Movie, it would have been more like the comic.

And the original Ghostbusters concept sounded awesome.

Um...no. No. NO.

-Tim Burton's Batman 3

That's better.

-Darren Aronosky's Batman: Year One( It wouldn't have exactly been Batman, but it would've been interesting)

Actually, I wouldn't have minded seeing the live-action Batman Beyond film that was being planned at the same time.

-Jaws 3 People 0( A purposed parody of the first two films that was changed to an actual sequel)

And yet the finished product still ended up being pretty hilarious, IMO. :-P
I got yer new Captain America right here!

Out of what has been mentioned, the only ones I agree with wanting is:

Spawn 2 and Batman films still done by Tim Burton including a Batman Beyond.

When I see this picture, I can't even begin to describe how horrible that is. I mean, aside from basically making him look like a Frankenstein's Monster/Superman combo, the face is just bad.

That was going to be Eradicator I believe, or am I thinking of Kevin Smith's Superman script that made Eradicator the main character pretty much?

I know that, and I think Ryan renolds would fit perfectly, except that he's not as ugly as Deadpool. I think that at some point, however, he was going to get his own movie, but it got stuck in Development hell and got canceled.

I don't think a movie about Deadpool would be successful. He's not exactly all that well known by the general public.

Neither were Men in Black or Blade, but those are Marvel movies, too. Even if people don't recognize Deadpool as a comic character, action movie fans will watch it.
