MSN review...whatcha think??

I haven't seen the movie yet and I don't plan to right away. I'll wait till most of the masses have gone so I can enjoy it in peace with lots of elbow room! But as I closed out of my e-mail I saw this guys 2 cents posted on his review of ROTF. We all are our own worst critics I guess and opinions are like A-holes...everybody has one. Even the pro's who get paid for it too I suppose. Here is but the opening of the review and for more here is the link:

'Transformers': Nothing Meets the Eye
James Rocchi, Special to MSN Movies
In 2007's "Transformers," director Michael Bay (who is also responsible for "Pearl Harbor" and "Armageddon") brought the Hasbro toy line to the big screen in the perfect marriage of plastic, mass-production subject and plastic, mass-production director. "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" brings Bay, his armada of effects technicians and his cast back to continue the Earth-bound battle between two rival groups of alien robots who can disguise themselves as vehicles so as to better hide among us. Based on a mythology created to rev up the promotion and profits between a toy line and an animated show during the '80s, "Transformers" was big and dumb and loud and fake, full of slapdash storytelling and special effects that leapt off the screen and clawed at your retinas in the hope of distracting you from just how badly made the movie was. "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" is not as bad as "Transformers"; somehow, in the face of long odds, it is actually worse.

Yeah, I just skimmed the review this morning. I don't really read reviews except for Chris Gore, but other then him. I don't care for any reviewers opionions. But what I did find surprising in the MSN review was that the guy actually insults anyone that likes the movie. He actually....let me find the quote...K. "If you tell me you loved 'Revenge of the Fallen' -- really, truly, loved it without reservation or complaint -- then you've essentially told me you can't tell something from nothing, good from bad, craft from cost." Wow, I didn't even see this yet, but I still am aware that my opinion is not the be all, end all of opinions. He just actually talks down to anyone that does. Wow...I would never ever hire this guy, EVER! IMO, I thought you were supposed to rate movies, not judge those that watch movies.

Which is exactly why I don't bother to read reviews, I have enough intelligence (contrary to popular belief) to form my own opinions and not have someone to shove their paid opinions down my throat as gospel.

Makes me wonder what qualifications there are to even be a movie critic. Guess all you need to have is a pulse and eyes...even then, I'm starting to doubt the fact that you need to have eyes to review the movie.

Having seen the film, and I hate to say this, this guy is right. There's no way in you're right mind that you can fully love this film. No way. The action and pace of the film was amazing given the script Michael Bay had to work with. If you thought the first film had plotholes, heh, you're in for a treat.
To me, it was like the first film might as well have not happened.

I'm not sure how many TF fans actually pay attention to directors. I know my friends don't, so they just go see movies based off of trailers and previews and such. Me? I know my directors. I'm always saying, "oh crap, W.S. Anderson is directing this, bleh" and they don't know why I'll start rubbin on a movie before it's out. I like some, hate some, but I always know what I'm getting into based going off of who's directing the film. I LOVED Bad Boys 2. Love it. I know people all across the world bash and hate, spew all kinds of venom, but that movie was so enjoyable for me. Not for any of the story, not for the actors and actresses, but for the mindless gunfights, car chases, and (IMO)witty banter between Lawrence and Smith. So for me going INTO TF2, I turning off my central processing unit, set me self on auto pilot and gonna enjoy the theatrical spectical that is a Bay movie...he just happens to be doing Transformers. I still personally hate the designs of the bots/cons, but he does action movies like no other.

I dont like to read review until AFTER ive seen the movie that way it wont ruin My movie experience. i find that critics pick un stupid details and leave out more important aspects of the film.

I didn't feel in the movie that the twins would be racist, if we compare, I could imagine Jazz as being an afro, but the twins not - they are like the little brothers of Bumblebee; with the movie being s*xist (sometimes...) and have bad humour overall I agree (but Wheelie was a fun character
)

I'm sorry, but that guy is a giant douche. I know the guy is entitled to his own opinion, but to bash a movie, any movie, like that is unprofessional. I get it, you don't like the movie. Thats cool. But so basically say this sucked, that sucked, everything sucked and if you like it you are brainless zombie and don't know crap is completely uncalled for. Leave that kind of crap to bloggers or web forum fodder, not something you get paid to by MSN or another company. I know I may be a bit biased because its a Transformers film, but I would still be appalled if it was any other film, even one I thought sucked completely as well.

Re: MSN review...whatcha think??
I suspect this jerk reviewer put a MASSIVE spoiler into the end of the review, and I'm not happy to see it included without a warning. Thanks for ruining part of the ending for me.
Who pissed in his corn flakes, anyway? He comes off as indignant for Bay making a dumb movie. What an amateur.

Generally a journalistic degree.
Thing is, I know guys with journalistic degrees, great guys, some of the best mates you could want for. That's why I hate to think of them as being in the same profession as people like this.
Most journalists are good until they start putting in their personal opinion, which is something that people expect from movie critics unfortunately.
Maybe some day the bulk of society will learn to form opinions for themselves.

I have a journalism degree aswell...LOL, I must be the scum of the earth...Anyways, this is one of the harshest reviews I think I've ever read (If not very true)...He sounds like someone who was really invested in hoping the film didn't suck...

I was really invested in hoping the film wouldn't suck. And I loved it. Maybe he just nitpicks everything to death.
Plus, how good can his credentials be if he reviews movies for MSN?

Mashed potatoes can be your friends!

The role of the critic is to look at things from their base values. Journalists tell stories. There's a big difference. Generally, you don't need journalism experience to be a critic. At the paper I previously worked for, our film critic/columnist didn't have a Journalism degree (to the best of my knowledge). Papers tend to look for people who have strong opinions and are reliable.
Personally, I don't like critics. I don't like being a critic. But they do play a important role in our media culture by telling us what's worth our precious free time and hard-earned money. It's up to the reader to discern how much of the criticism to take to heart.
Also, I'm still mad the MSN critic spoiled a major part of ROTF. What a dick.

Re: MSN review...whatcha think??
After a long wait, the time had finally come. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen was out.
I was more excited about seeing this movie than any that I can remember in recent years. My wife and I decided to take a friend's young son, since his dad had to work, and headed for the theater. Tonight was the night. The theater grew dark and the movie began. What came next was almost embarrassing.
This was not the transformers that I remembered as a kid. This wasn't even the transformers that I remembered from the first movie. I sat in my seat and was appalled at the language that these metallic beings were speaking. I thought this was supposed to be a family movie? I was ready for the fighting, explosions and excitement. What I WASN'T ready for was the profanity, cut downs and sexual situations that really wasn't needed for the story to move along. I am very disappointed in the Transformers. I realize that this is the 2000's, but why can't we go to the movies and actually see a movie that has a good plot without having to weed through everything else to enjoy it? I'm just sad.

i went in wanting to see giant robots fighting and causeing mass destruction. and i got it. i didnt go for an amazing plot
so i did love the movie.
my only complaint was i wanted to see more done with sideswipe, jolt, and soundwave.
i thought mudflap, skids and wheelie were hilarious.
the fights sceenes were much better done this time
they did take somethings alittle to far, and the close up of devastator was just weird...if ya seen it you know what im talking about.
but in the end i loved it and ill probably go see it at least one more time. i enjoyed it more than i did the first movie
