In the coming weeks I am going to attempt to repaint an alternator Shockblast or Jazz ( if I can find one) to look like my new motor, here is a pic.

I have tried a repaint before and ended up binning that Armada Prime cos the paint looked pretty bad. So bearing in mind that I want to get as good a finish as possible, what are the best paints to use? If I were to get a small spray device can anyone point one out that they can recommend?

Nice ride

I had the metallic gray model back in 2005, loved that car to death. Unfortunately with a second child on the way we had to buy something a little more family friendly.

As for paints, Testors are always a good way to go and have many spray options available, even an airbrush kit but I'm not sure you'd need that. Wal-mart carries a Kustoms brand that has some nice metallic colors but I've never used them.

The biggest thing to remember when attempting to get a really slick, mirrored finish is that you have to [lightly] sand the different coats. If you prime, the plastic, which I'd recommend, you should sand it smooth. Once you've shot the top coat, you should sand it as well. And then, you'll want to buff the clear coat down as well.

Any air brush can get you the finish you want, you just have to have the patience to spray very thin coats and give them time to cure a little with each pass. Obviously, with this approach, you won't get the final color with the first pass, so don't even try, just mist the coats on.

If you use spray paints, you can essentially get the same results, you just have to pay attention and avoid running the can empty and letting it sputter its last few passes over your pieces.
