I get how people enjoy repaints, simply because many T-former collectors aren't good painters at all. Like if there was an '08 Cliffjumper, people would definetly go out to get it. I also understand Final Battle Jazz, since it gives collectors and fans a different weapon for Jazz to wield, and it also gives a battle-damaged look. I understand Evac repaint of Blackout because it's a character that some fans enjoy.
But Metallic Finishes? Megatron, Ratchet, as well as the '74 Bumblebee i've seen before are a waste of money. C'mon, if you happen to already have Megatron, Ratchet, and '74 Bumblebee, and continue to buy their metallic finishes, you are either a hardened collector, a movie supporter, a Megs/Ratcher/Bumblebee fan, or just plain stupid. What's so special about the Metallic finishes? Can anyone understand that there's nothing special with it at all? All it is, is some varnished figure, in which the varnish isn't even worth someone buying the figure all over again.
Honestly, if you're buying something other than the original figure, atleast buy a repaint of a different colour, or something like a retool. But for pete's sake don't even touch the Metallic Repaints!
though I see your logic, and agree part way, the paint is actually a different color on Megatron and Ratchet, so yes its the same mold but not only is the paint different, it's shinny, like to resemble real metal... which if you think about g-1 and those toys, and how their finishes looked is kinda nostalgic, since metallic paint finishes became a lost art over time, and with the exclusion of die cast in toys.. I don't have the voyager Megatron, but the repaint and showcased in bot form in the new box is excellent, that gives me more incentive to buy it, simply because I'm a MIB/MISB collector, and to me having voyager Megs in a box in bot mode means he stays MISB, unless I decide to touch that black face up some with metallic paint, sooo much easier then repainting he whole damn thing, so I'm not that tempted to open him and take him out for the ceremonial transformation and replacement ritual I usually do, unless i go for the face touch up.. in which case should be fairly easy to do....
Seriously though, I don't have ratchet either so Metallic finish in bot mode will do as well.. I have storage issue right now so that's primarily why most of my collection is MIB and MISB, these guys just fit what I'm looking for...now I just need an 08 bumblebee 2 pack with a villain, and we are all good to go!!
Plus when the heck are they gonna do that metallic finish to the Leader class???
