Note he has four of them. Maybe they're meant to fit two in each hand, so he can quad wield?
Leader Class Grimlock certainly looks better in robot mode than his oddly elongated beast mode, but I'm still not too keen on him. Were it not for the absolutely terrible beast mode, I'm sure I'd go for the voyager.
All the Deluxe Dinobots look like winners, though I'm on the fence about Slash. There are some positives.

i kinda like drift's toy. Not sure about the artwork... the face looks way too human.
prime - i don't have a feel for this version - looks very blocky or backpacky
grimlock - need to see the film to make up my mind, but he seems the weakest. Perhaps cos one's expectations ride high.
the other dinobots look great though they give me a bionicle like vibe

Not all spinosaurus species were bigger than a T-rex.
I have been into transformers since 1984.
While I love G1 I also love new innovations and takes on the characters.
I prefer official Hasbro releases of stuff for the most part
I'm not a huge fan of Japanese original Transformers media or designs.
It's easier for me to say which are my LEAST favorite toy lines: Beast Machines, Robots in Disguise.
TFCon List: Classics Skywarp, General Optimus, BW Airrazor, Transmetal Tarantulus, Alternity Prime, Fire Convoy

The "Ages 8+" is really interesting. Is that the first time we've seen that on TF figures? (Haven't they always been 3+ or 5+?) I guess that's the help differentiate these from the "simple" line.

Correction: Hasbro gives a flying flip about proper scale, no way around it. No need to rationalise it, it's the cold hard truth.

The 8+ is indeed odd, But understandable. Also happy they didn't go like 13+ or even 18+

That Prime looks good, I want to pick him up. I think I mainly have a problem with the shade of grey they used, it looks bland. Plus I'm not a fan of his head. On the other hand, everything else is better than the FE. He isn't as big of a shellformer, he has chrome in good spots like his smokestacks and fuel tanks. And Reprolabels will probably be able to fix his blah factor. The only thing that concerns me is how low his shoulders sit, haven't seen them look good in any photos, but Hasbro is known for mistransforming stuff everywhere.

8+ is stupid IMO. I can't imagine that those deluxes are going to be that complex, certainly not as complex as ROTF leader Prime for example which is 5+.
My son spotted that 8+ straight away and interestingly he was more interested in Drift than he was in the Dino's.

It's likely all just a marketing ordeal. Hasbro probably wants to get people to notice that the Generations toys are aimed at the older demographics, but since they still have to market them as children's toys, they need to keep the age limit low enough to keep it in the kids range but high enough to not be in the same lower leagues as the younger RB and RID lines.MightyMagnus78 wrote:8+ is stupid IMO. After all, I doubt that the stores would wanna put "Age 18 and Up" items in the children's toy sections.

True, I just think its all a bit unnecessary. That said my son still gets frustrated with Beast hunters Smokescreen even now, so I can understand why they might think this was a good idea.

Meh.
The initial pictures looked kinda cool, but seeing this.... this utter crap (sorry for those who do like them) makes me feel sad. How could they have possibly botched G1-reminiscent-Optimus? How? That abominable face! The empty space on the back side of his truck mode! Blue upper arms! Why not make them red to get a coherent feel and make him look more like his old self at least? Sheesh...
Lucky me there are still tons of G1/Beast Wars/Generations/Classics bots to find and collect.
I'm sure someone will find these figures cool, which is fine by me. But personally I think they don't deliver. At. All.
Ah well.....

Re: Official Age of Extinction Products Discussion Thread
Been trying for 20 minutes to properly phrase my complete and total slam-fest of this incarnation of the Drift toy, it's character in the upcoming film and Bay's and Hasbro's involvement and their total lack of decency and respect in the creation of this character, and trying to phrase it all in such a way that I wouldn't get mobbed by an angry horde. It isn't working too well! I'll just leave it at "I find this figure offensive, his role in the upcoming movie to be in VERY poor taste and invite Hasbro and Michael Bay to take this deluxe class figure and shove it up their a**!"
Yep, that about sums it up.
The other figures are something of an unrecognizable nightmarish mess too but I find less at fault with them than I do Drift. Granted they fall somewhere between an attempt at making a Rorschach Test and H.R. Giger themed bondage equipment in terms of appearance (yes, even the Optimus figure) but hopefully the kiddies wont make that connection until at least their third round of nightmares.
And those are the redeeming qualities...

Like that big Grimlock with the shiny shiny.
the changes made to Drift so far seem no more divergent from his original portrayal than many of the other characters featured in the films so far. He's still a car, he's still an Autobot, he still has swords. If this film is anything like the last 3 I wouldn't worry too much about him getting enough screen time or character development to think there'll be anything that contradicts the Drift from the comics' past or personality.

I REALLY want him to have a hideous accent though.

EDIT: by "hideous" I mean in relation to the character design, I don't actually think those accents are hideous.

The moment you mentioned a South African accent, I immediately thought of Agent Kruger from Elysium. Didn't he use a Japanese katana in that movie?
