Prime or Primal

Postby OptitronPrime » Sun Oct 07, 2007 5:23 pm

which one do you like the most. For me it's Prime all the way. He had a better voice actor(Peter Cullen rocks), he's not as ugly as Primal, and frankly I just connected with him more. And Primal was an ape!!!!!!

Optimus Prime, because Primal was a bit of a jerk, too.

Prime. Beast transformers? No thanks. Also, when I die, in the unlikely event there is a god, his voice will be that of Peter Cullen.

I was around for G1 when it first aired, and used to watch the same single tape of the show all the time, so Optimus Prime would be my choice, mainly because he was the original.

Personally I don't think there was anything wrong with Primal, he, like Prime loved to sacrifice himself for the greater good, and was a well-liked leader. They are, besides size and alt modes more or less the same.

Primal was a Maximal, which were generally a lot smaller than the Autobots and Decepticons, so he has less physical strength as well.

being that Primal was not too much larger than a Human, I'd say that is a fair call.

Primal, and not only that, but I like Chalk better than Cullens too.

Don't get me wrong, lot of respect for Prime and Cullens.

But Primal was forced into it, had to pull everyone together, and make the best out of a situation he was in no way prepaired for or wanted.

Plus he did it several times constantly being kicked back to square one or lower.

Now, I was around for G1, and Prime already had everything he needed, loyal troops, artilery, support staff, the collective knowledge of every leader before you, pretty much one sided writers, the whole 9.

It's easy to be a hero with a world behind you, but when even your own troops are looking at you leary eyed and you still make it work, well...

There's something to be said for that :-?

Technorganic, besides, Prime let Primus do the same thing at the end of Cybertron.

Hands down, Primal was the better character.
I still hope, however, someone will track down and... severly wound the duches who wrote Beast Machines and destroyed his character.

Outside of the designs, I liked Beast Machines.

I don't know, but I think that his depressive, soul searching demeanor would fit someone who won a war to come home to find said home in ruin anyway because he chose mercy over a killing blow.

Tortured souls are awesome!

I still never liked Chalk he sounded like a grumpy dude that was sleeping right before he did his voice work. Although Chalk was ok in BW he was just horrible in the Unicron trilogy I mean even though the script sucked he still could've tried

Even though I grew up w/Primal I love Prime so much more. As long as it's G1 Prime. Primal had his moments, like gaining a new & much more stunning Optimal form, but Prime is ust the embodiment of the TF series & just looks great in the right light.......

The thing to remember with the Unicron trilogy and Beast Wars, in terms of voice acting, is that Beast Wars was all done in Prelays.

Essentially, for Beast Wars, they did all the voice acting, then the animations were done to fit the voices. This allowed for a more natural, flowing kind of Voice Acting which is generally top notch.

With the Unicron trilogy, the animations were all done by the time the voice actors started working. That means they have to get their lines in within say, six seconds. It's far more unnatural and leaves very little room to maneuver, so if Gary isn't at his best it's because he's at an artificial disadvantage.

As for my preferences, I'd go for Primal. Prime is a bit too perfect. Now dont get me wrong, I like prime just as much as any other TF Fan, hell, the errant memory of Prime transforming is what lead me to become the fan I am today not long ago.

But Primal isn't perfect. He makes mistakes, misjudges, gets frustrated, snaps occasionally, but always does the right thing as a Prime (or descendant of prime) should. As a character he has more depth.

But although my preference is for Primal, I do like both characters for what they are. :)

Go Munky!
Although just saying "Prime or Primal" is being pretty vague.
Even if you just say G1 Prime, there are still many G1 continuities.

Optimus Primal in the mainframe animation>G1 prime from cartoon

although
Optimus Primal=IDW optimus Prime

Primal just seems like a kickass warrior and leader to me.
G1 cartoon Prime doesn't seem like that great of a warrior.

I think IDW Optimus Prime would be my number 1. Well, 2007 Movie prime too.. those two beat out Generation 1 Prime. They both have a bit more attitude then G1 Prime does. Of course, i guess we have to remember who all these characters were targeted at and what generational time period.

Optimus Primal is also one of my favorite characters, again, because as a lot of people have already said, he was a good leader character that was sort of just dropped into the job, and he had his rough "I'm gonna woop some pred a$$" moments I think.

Prime all the way. Real transformers have an 18 wheeler as their alt mode, not a monkey...

I hate monkeys...

Primal. I just like Beast Wars and Beast Machines more than any other series. (Mostly Beast Wars though.)

Besides that, out of all Optimus named toys, Optimal Optimus is the best. No other Optimus has 4 modes.

I still really wish Hasbro would remold Optimal Optimus. Change the robot face, remove the beast mode, and call it Optimal Megatron. Would have been a better addition to the BM line than that Non-show character Primal Prime.

Real Transformers have to scan life forms instead of machines in the time era where there are no machines :P

Evilmus, your opinion FTW!

Seriously agree with these points. Primal was, ok not as strong as Prime, but a much better leader! Oh & he didn't allow Cheetor to be a total ass & screw up a fight between him & Megatron causing his death..... Blame everything on the '80s movie ^^

If you're asking who is the better toy its Prime all the way. Who's the better character? I say Primal.

That's really just a product of Beast Wars actually taking some time for character development.

Seconded (or thirded). G1 prime is great but Primal really set the stage for the whole self-doubting leader who still has backbone. His character was done perfectly and in a kid's show no less!!
