Just wondering how much a good quality fig like him would sell for. Here's a pic.

If he is complete, $100 on eBay...EASILY.

Reflector was a mail-away, much like the Omnibots, and as such, is very hard to come by. Harder stil, finding a complete Reflector is almost as hard as finding a G1 Shockwave without a torm/cracked/frayed/dried out wire/hose.

But my opinion, hold on to him.

Money is nice, but having something cool, rare and G1 is even better.

But I saw one on eBay hitting $100 already.

There are a few on eBay, and they fetch a premium, in premium condition.

I would ask to see the Takara stamp since you have a Knockoff Spyglass gun in there.

Yeah, my first impression was that it was a KO, although I could not pinpoint why. Maybe it was because the red paint is worn off. I'd ask to see the Takara stamp too.

Hmmm...you guys are pretty good at IDing KOs.

This raises a question: if most of these things are made in China, who is to say they do not produce "vintage" TFs and sell them "MISB" for hundreds on eBay.

I mean, come on, how freaking likely is it that someone would buy a gift for their kid in the 80s, and it would never be opened? Worse still, what are the ODDS that it would be squireled away from 20 years, only to resurface now, magically, when the market will support fools paying $700 for a figure that was $40 originally?

Even taking into account inflation, it is just plain silly at times. But hey, I have been guilty as well, so hey.

I am just interested in hearing a response. Because these Takara reissues are made in the same factories as the originals in many cases I am sure...and yes, I know initally, until 1987-88, they were made in Japan and Macau.

But still, how do you or I REALLY know?

How?

That doesn't look good quality to me for some reason, don't know why, if you mean good quality as in detail then for me your wrong but if you mean good quality as in the material, you could be right.

Never having been in the market to purchase Reflector, what does one need to know about this toy to avoid knock-offs?

It's really hard to tell (colors are like a shade off, but in a photo, you can't tell), but the gun for SpyGlass (the blue guy) has a hole in it in this picture, it normally is solid plastic withouth the cutout piece. However, the way the gun looks now is also the same as the MicroChange figure. But it's most likely a knockoff gun, the way to actually tell is if the peg fits loose in the hand. If it fits tightly, it might be a MicroChange gun, but you never know. I always ask to see a picture of the Trademark and that should settle anything.

The missles are also not authentic. They should either have a single tab or no tabs at the top of the shaft.

That is on my list. I had Reflector as a child but some bastard high schooler stole it on the bus. If I EVER see that guy I will pummel him. :-x

That was 20 years ago but I still want to punch his face in. :-x :-x :-x :-x

So it's authentic, but the accesories are not...that's not much of a big deal to most people, but I would list it with the auction to be honest. It should still fetch the same or close to it as if it did come with the original accessories. I guarantee 90% wouldn't care anyway.

So what do the authentic weapons look like? I went to TFU.com and they look the same to me.

well Cobra Island Toys has this

and Transformerland has this, which clears up nothing... :?

edit-this should answer all questions..
The Futurist group has some info on the Diaclone version which has a hole in the gun.

If I recall correctly, my Spyglass' gun has the hole in the gun and is authentic because it was my brother's and he sent away for it in 1986. Unfortunately, my Reflector is in storage off site, so I can't double check right away. Maybe some of the earlier Hasbro releases have the hole in the gun, making it authentic. Good luck.

edit #2: more info on Reflector Varients. This site is a great resource for G1 varients and knock offs.
