The RID repaint of Wheeljack, in all those funky colors, is DeadEnd right?

He's yet to appear in an episode if I'm not mistaken.....so why the figure?

Because repaints are cheaper to produce for Hasbro than new molds. Of course there were better molds to repaint, and molds that they never got around to using, but that's a whole other matter.

Wheeljack is my favourite mold from the Prime line, and the Dead End repaint just looks awesome! Love em both

He's also SLATHERED in paint...at least compared to the rest of the line. There is really quite a bit of paint on him though.

Yeah. They went above and beyond on the paint apps with him. Drenched in the stuff.
He's well worth purchasing if you have any doubts. A real horror show.

My original question was still never answered though...

why are the figures made when the character on the TV show doesn't even exist?

Same with Prime Ironhide...

Line bolstering, as simple as that. Especially when a show has so few characters the toy line has to refresh its assortment several times a year: anything over a year is considered "bad". One way is with repaints and retools, another way is create new molds for new characters. It's been like that ever since Generation 1, though Beast Wars took it to a new whole new level.

The new characters still need to be advertised though, so instead of the expensive cartoons, they'll appear in the comics or other fiction instead.
The resident Rewind... well, half of one

- Jelze Bunnycat =:3

Looking for:
- TR Furos (Hardhead's head) and Crashbash (lost him :()
- PotP Punch head
- TR Galvatron right arm (the gun one)
- CW Brake-Neck/UW Wildrider, CW Offroad
- TR Twinferno & Grotusque
- Greenlight, Lancer and PotP Elita-1
- Legacy Core Slug, Sludge & Snarl

Dead End looks like TF banshee, the screaming face is freaking awesome.
It would have been nicer to have come with a more specific weapon, then the same blades as ol' Jacky.

Transformers Prime isn't the first line to do this. In fact, every single toyline had characters in toy form that never appeared in their on-screen media. Transformers Animated is really the only exception when you don't count the convention exclusives.

Of course, a lot of them appeared in comics or tied in media. There isn't one PRiD toy that wasn't in Aligned fiction (whether that be the games, novels, or TV shows).

To answer your question, it's a marketing strategy as well as a way to fill in the toyline when you have a small cast.

Yeah, makes sense.

Although I like owning characters/figures that at least had 1 episode of screen time.

Well, who knows. Maybe Dead End will get the Oil Slick treatment. I'm hoping Rumble gets some screen-time, and Magnus is really pushing it with three toys.

There's always Season 3. ;)

P.S: The "Oil Slick treatment" is a term I use to describe a character that was a toy way before appearing in the cartoon, like Animated Oil Slick.

Yes, I'm always happy to see updated versions of my favorite characters. Especially since I'm a fan of the more obscure or "unusual" characters, seeing them return in modern continuities with bigger roles cannot be described in words! :KREMZEEK:
