It helped to make me feel involved, responsibility and discipline meant I had control of my young life. I was never spanked either, it isnt neccessary.

When my brother came along though, I think my parents were exhausted, the took a more passive approach, giving in to whatever he wanted just to keep him quiet. He wasnt planned and my parents just seemed to give up. Now 21, he is almost intolerable, he is incredibly lazy with an excuse for everything. He isnt respectful because he never experienced any consequences for his actions. The only one he speaks to with respect is me, and that is only out of fear of an ass kicking.

two kids from the same parents with two systems implemented, one worked and one has produced a very unlikable individual.

Seeing a young parent with 3-5 kids bouncing off the walls, I cant imagine them with any system at all. People dont take getting pregnant seriously enough. You are trading a night of pleasure for a lifetime of bondage, people dont seem to internalize this, they just assume they will figure it out as it comes.

hehehehe bondage :P

Seriously though, people should not be allowed to have sex if they are not prepared to care for the child properly. It isn't fair on the child that they are neglected and/or not looked after properly.

The government should really make it alot harder to reproduce without first proving that you are capable of caring properly for the child.

Or, just use damn contraception!

QFT, as I mentioned earlier, there should be at least an IQ test or something. Too many idiots producing more idiots.

Wasnt there some kind of legislation on this in China? I remember hearing about some kind of licensing system, or capping system that dictated the amount of kids you were allowed to have?

Some would argue this isnt possible in a democracy, but democracy in the United States is an illusion anyway. With the population exploding like it is, people shouldnt be popping out kids at this rate.

when i was younger if i missed behaved in a store iwas getting an asswhupping. same with my sisters. we were good kids. but we couldnt afford new toys alot. thats one of the reasons i buy toys now.

but my best friend has 4 kids and they are very well behaved.only once or twice have any of them misbehaved while i am around. but they shape up quickly enough when they were told "if you dont behave uncle glen(me) will go home" they love me being around and so they behave.

That's kind of an unfair opinion. I have twin four year old boys. When I'm watching them during the week (because I work weekends) I have to take them with me on my TF hunts because getting a babysitter to do a toy run just doesn't make sense. I find it easier to let my boys checkout the toys in the aisle while I'm combing the TF display instead of constsntly battling with them to stand still while I look.

However out of respect for other people and proper public and shopping ettiqute I make them put the toy back in the proper place after they're done loking at it. If they fight or get grabby over the same toy I immediately step in, put the toy back where it goes on the shelf, tell them not to touch it and explain my expectations about behaving themselves in public. And by the way, one of my twin sons is Autistic.

I have no fear of controlling and parenting my kids in public. I don't give a rip what someone thinks of me doing that. I only care that my kids are well behaved and that they listen to me. Just remember, not all of us let our kids run wild. And if it were my kids that rudely and forcefully snatched a toy out of an adult's hands or hit them to get the toy their butts would be hurting quite a bit.

It takes a village to raise a child.

Unfortunately, our worldwide village has a lot of village idiots, many of whom are parents who standby and let their little idiot children run around disrepectfully like a bunch of little yups.

I usually take the time to complement kids and parents who behave respectfully in public. Positive reinforcement is just as important and usually graciously accepted, whereas saying anything critical to a child or parent can often backfire.

Funny, but that can be a cause of bad parenting...the mom is hot- no one tells her that little Billy needs to be disciplined better. Most the time if mommy is nice and Billy is an a-hole then daddy is an a-hole as well...why bother- it has to do with behavior modeling.

I've often told my gf and family that I want to have a kid so I can finally punish one of the little bastards. They all tell me that's the wrong reason and blah blah blah. But hell, I already have a tv remote, so I don't need them to toddle over and change the channel for me like my dad said he had me for, so what the hell? Might as well have some fun punishing someone.

In fact, there was just something on the news recently about now they are trying to step in on verbal punishment too. Something about it's as bad as beating, and the government services may make it illegal to scold your child because of the whiney PC police groups out there. Things are just going too far anymore.

I think we should all just stop having kids for about 15 years. It'd be hilarious when there wasn't any. Think of all the money everyone could save.

Same here. The only free TFs I ever got were on birthdays and the holiday.

And it worked out well, because I knew how to both work hard and budget by the time I was 10.
I told the fire to go **** itself, and it did.

You see these mothers and fathers in department stores, they have a kid hanging off every arm! Why not have one and really concentrate on raising him/her. When I see some ridiculous mother with 4-5 kids all around the same age screaming and yelling, I wonder "was this your plan?"

They pop out a small army all within five years, they cant control them so they give up and then they inflict this unruly gang on society.

There should be an IQ test that couples have to take before breeding, there are FAR TOO MANY people walking around in this world, and too many of them swam in from the shallow end of a gene pool.

LOL, this one's quite funny hahaha. just like china and hitler eh?

anyway, when i was young, i used to remember feeling bad and disappointed whenever i didn't get the toy i wanted, up to the point that i could only window-shop at these toys displayed at the aisle and sigh and think to myself, "yeah, ma/pa ain't gonna get me that one". sure didn't do much for my self-esteem for a while back then.

but heck, i understood why, because we didn't have much back then when i was young. and my ma, she'd never hesitate to give me an earful in front of people if i misbehaved. maybe that's why i was one of the more quieter ones back then.

but now, with a job and all, i can get nearly any TF i want as long as it's within budget. i really hated it when some kid got the movie voyager ironhide at MSRP before me - i mean, COME ON, seriously, are they even gonna take good care of that thing?

but alas, we collectors can do nothing about it. it's a free market. everyone, from kids to adults, get a fair shot at getting TFs. this is why we see spoiled kids with uncontrollable appetites clogging up our toy store aisles, with poor mom & pop tagging along trying to make junior happy by buying his every whim. it sucks, but it's reality.

i guess parenting standards are just not that strict today. maybe this is why kids are really out of control - parents are too busy with their careers to be able to raise junior properly and with proper societal breeding.
all the comments above are the HUMBLE OPINIONS of the said user only. 'nuff sed.

I'm a child of the 80's and I can tell you that kids throwing tantrums is nothing new, although I must admit that it seems to have increased, but that may be due more to parents having mroe disposable income and spoiling their children more than parents could do so in the 70's and 80's.

The kids of today are also told from the second they start school about their "rights", and they know that they can get away with whatever the hell they like due to their "rights".

I dont know how it is in the rest of the world, but "current affairs" shows here in Australia have had a big crackdown of "the evils" of smacking over the past 5 years, with parents even being charged with child abuse for smacking their children in public.
Kids aren't dumb, they know all about it, and know their parents more than likely will not smack them in public, so they can carry on acting like screaming idiots until their parents cave in.

I know when I was a child, the threat of being smacked in public was often enough to get me to stop throwing my tantrum (although my parents assure me I only threw a wobbly once in a blue moon, unlike many kids who throw one in every single store, everytime they go out). The smacking never hurt, and didnt turn me into a "violent young man" (like the current affair shows tell parents it will).

It's part of the "cotton wool children" epidemic that is sweeping Australia, teachers cannot even tell students that they cannot read, as it might hurt the child's self esteem. These kids are going to have a damn hard time when they reach the workforce, where mummy and daddy are not there to protect them.

The only bad experence I ever had with kid was at gamestop a kid got down in a dog position and I was backing up because to close to person in front of me and triped over the kid and landed on butt. The mom told me how sorry she was and told the kid what did I say about doing that when we were at the mall and little kid said you said if did that one more time I wouldn't be able to come shopping with again at the mall untill I was older. So I think that if you can't spank your kid find some other sort of thing that scares the kid enuff to want to do the right thing.

rofl...little sh*ts...

I agree with most of the people here. Discipline is the way to go. As long as its reasonable and for good reason, not the raging drunk dad kind. But who needs beers when you can buy tfs right?

I was raised in a way where a spanking was actually a serious threat. It didnt happen a lot, but when i stepped out of line, it happened. And now, I'm glad it did, because I know I was a well-behaved little angel, and god I hate the kids who just run around.
