I thought this was a very solid issue that connected to EVERYTHING in the IDWverse. It gave more information on the Ark-01, Dead Universe, and portal from the Nightbeat Spotlight. There were post Escalation scenes bridging the gap to Devestation. They tied up lingering questions about what happened on Cybertron after Stormbringer. And Ratchet's explaination about Optimus being away on "personal business" will be expounded upon in next month's Prime Spotlight.

As usual with the Furmanverse, we were left with some more questions, but as I listed above, I was more then SATISFIED with all the things that were answered or touched upon. I thought this was a spotlight full of answers to the questions of the Nightbeat Spotlight. Loved Hound and Sideswipe (if he comes to earth, he'll find Sunstreaker for sure). Art was great. I felt that the whole story revolved around Galvatron and we learned a lot about him.

Agreed.

...And I like the fact that Galvatron has more to him than a Unicron creation. He was shown as a young, risk taker, and caused the whole loss of the Ark-1.

I can't wait to find out more.

That's exactly why I love Galvatron. Such a powerful badd ass! Takes weapons that destroy entire comets at point blank range and just keeps right on going.
Great artwork and colouring, especially when Galvatron is walking on Cybertron again really sets the mood. This has replaced Magnus as my fav spotlight.

Now for the theories:

Based on comments Galvatron made through the spotlight, here is my take on things.

He was a risk taker wanting to unlock his full potential. That's why he was positioned on the Ark 1. He states as much. He flew the ship into the anomaly after sensing something strong in there. Whatever it was killed the entire crew, including Galvatron (When Scram says "He's not dead", Galvatron thinks 'Wrong'). This makes me think when the entire crew was killed in the dead universe, whoever it was ressurected Galvatron as a free thinking zombie type guy to do his bidding. Which is why he though 'Wrong' and he survived those weapons, having his head blown clean open, and why there were no lifesigns when he was still operational.

When Prime told him he sensed a dark twisted version of the matrix in that system, that got me thinking.

In Escalation 6, Prime was floating in Limbo and that being appeared to him. I believe that is whoever is controling Galvatron. And as someone said in the Esc 6 thread, I believe him to be Nemesis Prime, especially after the comment about a dark, twisted version of the matrix wanting to reshape the universe in it's own image.

The other beings who came out of the silver thingy is IMO the rest of the Ark1's crew. But they have not been given the same power or free will that was granted to Galvatron. Instead, they are just servants, mainting the security of the portal with the Micromasters. Perhaps the Micromasters were also on the original ark?

Thunderwing is not in stasis. He ran out of power. But if the dead universe guy who controls Galvatron gave him energon that was not going to burn itself out, he would easily become active again.

I know I wrote in another thread that I was bored of the Pretenders, but if Galvatron is fooling around with Thunderwing, my interest is peaked right back in.

And I rekon they have nothing to do with the Reapers. They want to bring peace to the galaxy by eliminating all worlds that fight, or are fought over. The dead universe owner (if the Prime is too be believed) wants to reshape the universe in his own image.

Spotlight Prime may reveal more about this mysterious character, if he is indeed sensed by the Matrix and known to Prime.

The IDW-verse is getting so layered I have to go back and re-read things and then re-read them again.

I agree with the sentiment that whatever is coming from the dead universe doesnt have anything to do with the Reapers. Different motivations.

I'm getting a DC Darkseid anti-life vibe from the whole Galvatron-Dead Universe thing. Galvatron meantions the "unlife" and "mirror" which pretty much cements that the Dead Universe is some kind of opposite universe. Not Bizarro Superman opposite but intrinsically opposite. What that manifests itself as really we havent been told yet.

Also, I think whatever force is directing Galvatron has been planning an invasion of sorts for a very long time. When Nightbeat mentions when he is on Gorlam Prime that it looks like the civilization there has been given a technological evolutionary boost I believe that it was done by the forces of the Dead Universe for the purposes of their eventual invasion. Add that to what Galvatron said the "old Prime" had felt and it seems so. Gorlam Prime might be even be a staging area since it has the portal and a vast underground system seemingly unknown to the native populace at large.

I also believe that the robots that attacked Nightbeat were the results of that artificial boost of Gorlam Prime's technology and they serve as minions or even drones to the Dead Universe. Since the Transformers that went lost in the Ark-1 were long before the War the designs that they used for the minions would be a mixture of Golden Age Cybertron/Dead Universe that Nightbeat wouldnt recognize.

The figures coming out of the silver lake are likely the other crew members of the Ark who are like Galvatron servants of the Dead Universe. When Galvatron mentions that he "killed" the other Transformers on the Ark-1 he is probably feeling guilty about resigning the others to a fate they didnt ask for. Even though Galvatron is compelled to obey he has a limited amount of free will and seemingly more free thought and while he kills he is not a completely willing acolyte to the aims of the Dead Universe which may be forshadowing.

Krakon from the Nighbeat Spotlight was killed because he found out something he wasnt supposed to and before he could tell it to Nightbeat. It was likely about what had really happened to the Ark-1 and he could have exposed the presence of the Dead Universe faction before they were ready.

From what was spoken to Nightbeat in his Spotlight and the events of Galvatron on Cyberton the Dead Universe faction know exactly what is going on in regards to the goings on of the Transformers of the here and now. They knew about Nightbeat's investigation and how to get him to the place they wanted him. They knew about the Thunderwing episodes and therefore what he is and what he is capable of. Maybe the nature of Nightbeat's implant is to relay information. It stands to reason that there may be more than one Transformer with a Dead Universe implant.

Speaking of implants the robot that implants Nightbeat may not be Galvatron but rather the green and white robot seen on the Ark-1 before Galvatron sends it into the anamoly.

Oh and one more thing.

The exhange between Hound and Sideswipe show more of the hints of the governmental structure and beauracracy that was discussed in the Megatron Origin thread.

Sideswipe is asking about transfers, Hound is talking about "official reprimands" which are a whole lot of nothing and akin to a bad report that is slipped into your permanent record in school.

This level of order goes beyond the Autobots being almost a ramshackle paramilitary faction formed during the advent of a civil war. It speaks to the kind of governmental structure seen during the Megatron Spotlight.

It seems to me that the organizational structure of the Autobots is the remnant of Cybertron's government before the War.

We also see the frustrations that the beauracracy still causes when action needs to be taken i.e. the Sideswipe incident and Springer's attempts to rescue Kup.

I'll have to reread this. I thought that he got killed, but then somehow regenerated. I never considered that he wasn't actually alive, in the strictest sense.

Sounds awesome! Galvatron is a really cool character. When I first saw the animated movie when Megatron was upgraded into Galvatron, I was a bit worried but he turned out to be a good character.

I thought that comment that Galvatron made when it was said he is not dead and he thought "wrong" really stood out - for me it was a real "Whoa" moment.

You really have to feel for poor Galvatron, he gets created in Transformers The Movie as possibly the most powerful individual transformer ever only to be Unicron's slave and now here he is in the IDW verse, clearly a supremly powerful being and again he is just somebody else's lapdog!

That's gotta play havoc with his self confidence!

Hey, remember how IDW's Jetfire ended up being the Classic Jetfire toy - because Hasbro gave them info on the toy early. Any chance that the Galvatron we see in this comic is the upcoming Classic 2.0 Galvatron?

I sure hope not! His head's just too pointy. As much as I love the Takara reissue and Energon Galvatron, would it be too much to ask for a G1 cartoon accurate head sculpt?

But fix the head, and heck yeah, I'm sold!

Well we know that Hasbro aren't afraid to give Classics figures weapon based alt modes...

Sure would be a pretty toy though!
