Tristar wrote:As a general Movie goer yes I do recommend it. For my fellow Trekkies Go SEE IT! The movie itself feels very Retro in style very 60s yet modern. The enterprise heck all the federation ships in the movie feel Chunky to me, I'm not saying thats a bad thing though. Any fan of trek will notice alot of Paradox's in the timeline including two very big paradox's which I will mention latter today. Every character got there moment in movie so the it didn't focus totally on Kirk and Spock. There's plunty of action starting with the destruction of the Kelvin. They even used a Beasty Boyz song at some point.Just to let you all know Kirk is a true flirt through out the entire movie. Yes Kirk takes the test Three times we only get to see the third! Yes there are two spocks in this movie I'm not gonna say why lets just say something Trekkies hate it invovled.
"my usual salutation would seem to be self severing so I will leave you with simply good luck."
I may have miss quoted but, its a funny line if you think about it after you watch the movie.

It's like a big FU to fans that have bothered to follow for years.

The shaky cam works, and while it wasn't annoying and overused like in Cloverfield, when you did notice it, it was annoying as heck, mostly during the bride scenes, past that it worked.

Leave it to Dead Metal to have the word 'Pronz' in his signature.

Supreme Convoy wrote::BOT: I f*****' loved this movie! And I'm a non-Trekkie. Every second of that movie was entertaining. I can't get enough of that opening sequence, it's just so epic and heartbreaking. Damn, I love Abrams, Orci, and Kurtzman.
And it has the best use of "Sabatoge" ever! I geeked out over that moment as well.
Can't wait to watch it again!
Also, I didn't realize Winona Ryder was Spock's mother and Greg Grunberg was Kirk's stepdad.

I'm not terribly happy with comments like this made about the movie. You have to remember that Star Trek is like your average comic book hero: it's almost a part of the fabric of pop culture. And like all pop culture heros, they need to get reinvented every so often as to appeal to a new audience. (Anyone remember how much fandom went nuts when the quote/unquote "new" designs for the Transformer characters in the live action movie were leaked? Sure, you do.)
In any case, to anyone who might hold this opinion, consider this: this movie is to the original Trek series and the six TOS movies what Batman Begins/The Dark Knight are to the Tim Burton/Joel Schumacher Batman movies: a fresh imagining of an old property. If looked at in that fashion, I'm sure you'll like this.
This, in my rambling, roundabout way, is my way of saying I just got back from seeing it, and can pretty much declare it to be an [EXPLETIVE of your choice] good film no matter how you want to look at it.
Also, considering it has both the GI Joe and ROTF trailers in front of it, it's guaranteed to get a lot of folks in the theater on that aspect alone.

Prime Riblet wrote:I was reading an article in some waiting room a couple months ago, and the movie was actually designed to a refresh of the basic Star Trek aesthetic. Basicly, the property has been going down in popularity for several years, so the movie is made the way is in order to spice it up for a new generation of fans. So, you pretty much hit the nail on the head, Darth. I would much rather deal a little bit of change than to lose a whole franchise completely.

Yeah, even though Enterprise managed to be great in its final season, by then it was pretty much too late to save it, and it was said at the time that it needed some time and a fresh pair of eyes to make it good again. Well, looks like that's what happened.
