TF Movie in the Top 3!

Postby Reximus Prime » Fri Aug 17, 2007 2:56 pm

Based on the box office revenues reported at BoxOffice.com, Transformers is now past Harry Potter and may quickly pass Pirates 3 to take the #2 spot for top grossing films (in the USA) of 2007.

IMO, I don't think it will get up to Spidey, but the year is not over yet, so we'll see. Transformers may very well become (at least) the 2nd highest grossing film of 2007!

Actually, Transformers is currently in the 4th spot, right behind Pirates 3. Shrek 3 is second and Spidey 3 is first. TF should over take Pirates this weekend. They're only a few million apart. But I don't think it will catch Shrek 3 (at $321 millon) or Spidey 3 (at $336 million) unfortunately.

Well, the recently announced IMAX showings should help tickets sales, I wouldn't be surprised if it tops Pirates, (no offence to Bruckheimer, Depp, and folks). By the way, my local theatre only has one showing for Transformers, so this may be a sign that it's run is nearly over.

Spiderman 3 was THE movie for me this year, followed by Transformers, VERY closely behind. I'm glad they are both on the top of the heap. I know SM3 was a big disapointment to some, but I still love it. Shrek 3 I can do without, as well as Pirates. But I'm thrilled that TF has done so well. I remember some movie analyists saying it would be a big disappointment, so I was really rooting for it.

It's nice to see someone else who enjoyed Spider-Man 3.
Was it as good as it could've been? No. The whole "Mary Jane's a damsel in distress, again!" thing has more than worn out it's welcome with me (and many others I'd assume) but it certainly was entertaining, tied up everything along with leaving the door open a bit. It was definitely better than Spider-Man 2 which just becomes outright boring....

Shrek 3 was also better than it's predecessor, and still not quite as good as the first one. Problem is, I was never a fan of the entire Shrek "thing" so I guess I'm the odd man out.

Pirates 3 looked like a rental thing for me. I saw both Curse and Chest, and I have to say the first one was definitely better than the second. I hear the third one is non stop action, but absolutely no story whatsoever.

I'd love to see TransFormers climb to the top of the charts, but even if it makes it to second or third place...that's a hell of a lot more than any of us expected.

I absolutely loved Spiderman 3, but I know it could've been a little better. Cut Sandman completely out and it would've been perfect. But it doesn't ruin it for me. And that infamous jazz club scene embarrassed me at first, but now I find it funny. More Venom would've been fantastic, but I'm happy I got him at all.

I liked Shrek 2, but I'm by no means a fan of Shrek.

The first Pirates movie was pretty darn good, but the second utterly ruined the franchise for me. Took any charm it had and flushed it down the toilet. I had no interest in seeing the third after the disaster of the second.

When I started seeing clips of Transformers, I went bonkers for it and now look at me. I became a TF nut.

No Doubt...I think it might even help it get past Spidey. I think it's clever marketing, pull the film from theatres for a month, then bring it to IMAX and then also add more scenes.

I could see this doing $35M in Imax sales.

He was a little emo-looking, but he sure didn't act emo, you know, leaving Harry for dead and all. One thing should be agreed upon: first fight scene between Harry and Peter was one of the best ever.

I live an hour away from an IMAX, so I doubt I'll have the time to have someone watch my babies so I can see it. :(

How much has Harry Potter raked in from IMAX sales? Think Transformers could beat it?

Haha I would have said the reverse; cut out Venom! I felt that the way they had Sandman set up, he could have been focussed on more and fleshed out from what was a promising, sympathetic start. They tried to squeeze too much in there. I read somewhere that Raimi wasn't actually too hot on Venom and it shows. Each of them could have carried the show.
Of course, they needed to have two villains in Spiderman 3 so that they could tie off the Harry thread, and get him to work with Spiderman and redeem himself from the Dark Side.

I think movies falter a bit when they try to introduce too many people which have enough background to fully flesh out. See what happened with Batman when they tried to squeeze Riddler and Two-Face (Two-Face alone would have sufficed) or Captain Freeze and Poison Ivy (The end of that particular franchise.Shudder  ) The only one that was nicely done was Penguin and Catwoman.
