TF toys that are art.

Postby Bonger » Fri Jul 20, 2007 5:48 am

As some of you may know, I am not a big fan of lists, or what is the best posts.

However, I was admiring my Takara GC-03 Vector Prime today. He happens to be one of a handful of figures that I picked up from the Cybertron line. And wow, he really is a work of art. The mold does a fantastic job of capturing his clockwork mechanism. The paint apps are superb and really bring out the details molded into this figure.

He is just beautiful, and I thought to myself, really, a true piece of toy art.

And that got me wondering as to what toy everyone here would like to designate as a piece of art.

The Rules:

The MP, BT, SCF and statue lines are disqualified as they are, in my opinion, not toys.

It must Transform.

Please do not pick a brick for sentimental value.

Please mention exactly what line and company the toy is from and why you consider it to be a work of art.

You can make your choice based on a superb mold, beautiful paint applications, amazing transformations, or just flawless execution of the intended character. Preferably, your choice will be a combination of all of these.

Now to make it hard: No more than 1 choice per person. We want the best, not the second or third best. ;-)

In the end, just for shits and giggles, I will sum up our results and put up new post listing the true works of Transformer art.

As I have mentioned, my pick is Takara GC-03, Vector Prime for the great details in the mold and the stunning paint apps. Here is a link to Ryan's gallery for everyone to admire.

I'd say, the entire Alternators/Binaltech line. They're just plain beautiful in their alt modes.

While I agree its a great figure and probably THE best paint apps I've seen in a major release figure, I think Classics Mirage has it beat overall.

Sleek elegant design in both modes. High posability, amazing in fact. Fun and ease transformation. And the sleek look makes you feel like Mirage is a sneaky spy like character.

Definately Classics Mirage.

Now now, that line was not included as its hardly a toy. I agree though. Just a beautiful line overall.

Classics Mirage is amazingly poseable. However, I always feel ike he is hunching over due the positioning of his head. :-?

Ahhh a piece of art. Hmm.. I don't know. But I do know the ones that I can't get enough looking at.. so I guess that might qualify..

Binaltech Grimlock, 08 Bumblebee (or what he could be, paint wise), Revoltech Prime, but he doesnt Transform, but to bad!!

Weapon: Fusion-Powered Particle Blaster
Cybertron Primus and Movie Leader Optimus Prime

From my collection, those two are the best, most arty figures. Great transformations, superb looking sculpt in both modes, paint apps are flawless and plenty of articulation and action features.

Same mold, but I truly think the BotCon Alpha Trion is one of the most artistic pieces to come from Hasbro.

I think a runner up as being art would be Classics Voyager Jetfire. I don't even to explain need why.

Okay, I'm about to show off my idiocy here, everyone stand back and put on your goggles!

What's SCF?

I have to say, I think Titanium Ultra G1 Ultra Magnus looks pretty fantastic, his colours aren't exactly G1 accurate (there's less red than there used to be), but in the right pose he has such character and really as cool and impressive as a transformer can possibly be.

Oooh yeah! I had Doubleface from that series. He fell to bits in my bag while I was travelling once. He was pretty funky, but I agree- totally not a toy.

Thats a good call!

No worries about the restrictions. I just wanted to keep it to toys.

Otherwise, the BTs, and MPs would probably take most of the vote while barely being a toy at all.

No offense to some of you guys, but I don't quite like the Vector Prime model that much, just not my say looks to kiddish.
My say would be Ultimate Bumblebee in his alternation form, very shiny and accurately designed.

I had other figures in mind that didn't transform and looked better than most figures that do transform... but that would be going over the rules now wouldn't it

There are so many to choose from, but I'm going to suggest Titanium The Fallen. I love looking at that guy. Menacing, flat black dark, on fire ...
